52 Pounds Lighter with Portion Control

The Jenny Craig program along with Calorie Count has been helping Kdub10s rethink her way of eating as well as monitoring the type of foods she eats. This, along with a positive mindset has helped her lose 52 lbs, and she is now focusing on maintaining her weight loss.
She contacted us through our Share Your Story feature and provided the following answers to our questionnaire.
1. What prompted you to begin this weight loss journey? Did you have an "Aha!" moment?
I play a lot of tennis and was tired of never being able to move around on the court. I was also outgrowing my clothes. Plus, I was determined not to go over 200 pounds.
2. What other "diets" (programs, products, plans, or services) had you tried in the past?
Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Nutri-System
3. Please describe how you reached your weight loss goal. What changes did you make to your usual diet, activity, lifestyle, and attitude? Did you implement any other strategies besides Calorie Count? What was the most important change?
I joined Jenny Craig, because I needed the portion control and I'm not much of a cook. It kept me in check and the weekly one-on-one weigh-ins kept me "honest." Then my son introduced me to Calorie Count and it's really changed everything.
4. Please describe how Calorie Count was instrumental to your weight loss.
Tracking everything I put in my mouth has really made me re-think my eating. I'm a "bored eater." I love food, but the idea that I had to record that momentary lapse has really kept me from falling off the wagon, so to speak.
5. What difficulties did you experience losing weight?
I'm 51 and I started this weight loss when I was 50. My metabolism has slowed WAY down. In my past weight loss pursuits, little slips wouldn't show up on the scale. Not so much now. Hitting plateaus was very discouraging, but I tried to stick to my goal and not pay attention to that.
6. How long did it take you to see results? When did you realize that you were a success?
It took months and was tough because nobody noticed for a long time. My weight came off very slowly. Finally in June, I felt like I was starting to succeed.
7. How do you prevent relapse?
Using Calorie Count! My goal has changed. My new goal is to maintain my healthy weight. That's everything. Plus, I hired a personal trainer, which I absolutely LOVE. I have another new goal to become more fit and defined. Stay tuned!
8. How has your life changed now that you've lost weight?
Well, shopping for clothes is a major rush. I feel like I have a new toy - my new body. I'm honestly speechless when I look in the mirror. It's just incredible.
9. How long have you maintained your current weight?
About 2 months, but, as I said, my new goal is to maintain. I've lost so much weight so many times in the past and made the mistake of thinking that I was "done." I'm teaching myself to understand that I am never, ever done.
10. What five tips do you have for other dieters?
- Track EVERYTHING you eat. BE HONEST. You're only cheating yourself when you lie.
- Look for opportunities to move - walk, run, work out, play sports.
- Consider weight training. It's an amazing motivator.
- Make long-term maintenance your goal so you don't go off the rails when you hit your weight goal.
- Don't get discouraged when people stop noticing your weight loss. It just means that they're used to the new you. Don't make THAT your goal.
- EAT VEGGIES AND FRUITS and DRINK WATER. Make sure your calories are quality calories.

Thanks! It really is one of the toughest things I've ever done. I'm reluctant to share my "success" story because I won't feel successful until I've kept the weight off for a LONG time. I submitted my story to try and keep myself motivated.
Really inspiring... Now I have around 40 extra pounds..my metabolism has change a lot, this year I've been through a lot of situations including a low back spasm that makes me quit trainning for a while... Now, reading your determination to not get over 200 I realize I need to start doing what it takes to get my 140 ideal pounds back.
Thanks for sharing, and like you said "it's never, ever done".
Thank you for sharing your story. It has inspired me as I'm about your age and have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight for years now. But, I'm going to take your advice and be honest with myself and not give up!
In the after photo, your smile looks like someone who has had a weight lifted off their shoulders. Fantastik job! Congratulatons!
Nice reminder that the goal isn't what someone thinks of you, it is what you think of yourself, though compliments are a nice plus!!! Good Job!!!
Wow. You look fabulous! Congratuations. I can't wait to see the success you have seen (this is my 3rd day of the "diet" and 1st day logging on this site).
It was so good to read your blog. I too am 51 and just started up again on a journey to lose 60 lbs. I am down 5 pounds so far. This past year I came within 25 #'s of hitting goal and then let stress and boredom eating take me right back up. I just finished school as a Medical Assistant and am now trying to find a job, but I am determined to remember that thin people always come across better and to just stick with it this time. You don't see near as many success stories for the over 50 gang, so glad you posted yours.
Hats off lady!!!
