Can I do abdominal exercises in the car?

Quote  |  Reply

I know this sounds weird, however, when I see some of the advertisements for aerobics, dance, tae bo-esque video, many of the "moves" appear to be a standing "crunch" of the abdominals as part of the workout.  It appears as though the individuals flex and cruch as part of the routine.

So my question is this:  Is this move effective while driving down the freeway in your car (Can you picture this behind the wheel?)  My hands would be at 10 and 2 of course!  Safety first!

Hey, anybody?  I keep doing these goofy driving-crunches and I'm not going to do them if they add no value!!! Thanks!!

Anybody have any good exercises for the car anyway?

I think that anytime you use a muscle it can help a little to make it stronger. I have not heard of these "driving crunches" before, but sometimes when I am driving for a long time I will squeeze my glutes and abs for a minute and then release them, then repeat it for a while.
I was reading about an ab workout the other day that included an exercise called the stomach vacuum.  It basically was expelling the air from your lungs and then flexing your ab muscles and hold the flex for 10 to 15 seconds.  He described flexing as trying to make your belly button and your spine meet.  Apparently this is supposed to make your abs more defined.  I do this sometimes while driving.  And I agree with sam719.  If you flex and hold for some period, you are working the muscle, which can't hurt you, so I would keep on doing what you are doing.

The Vacuum pose is kind of the thought behind the Vacuum exercise check out the original by Frank Zane.
