one thing i want to say is that i HATE Abercrombie and Fitch. i like their prepy style, but they are seriously trying to make girls anorexic. three years ago, i bought a pair of pants there. they were a size 6 and they fit perfectly still today. i went there a while ago to try some pants and skirts on and i barely fit into the largest size they had, which was either a 12 or a 14. this made me so angry! is my size (5'8" and 150 lbs) obese? i know i need to loose some weight, but my bmi says that i am just on the limit of being slightly overweight.
I never got the whole abercrombie and fitch thing....i mean, yeah the stuff photographs well and I like the look but the clothes are actually quite flimsy, the materials and construction are usually not worth the mark up they put on it just for the name......anyway, enough of my gripes :-)
Don't look at sizes. Seriously. Every place has a different standard and every label is going to be a different size on you. Not only do they not have a single standard for everyone, not everyone's body is the same. Me for example, my waist is a lot smaller than my hips and booty and because of that I always have to get a larger size, and my waist on my pants is always a lot bigger. it's annoying, but that's what happens when you get stuff that's made for the masses and not tailored specifically for your body (lord knows I don't have the cash for that as much as I would love it :-) ) Don't sweat it, you're not obese, you're doing fine. If you like an item, just buy it in whatever size fits nicest on you and don't think twice of the number. Enjoy shopping! :-)

Well, I don't shop there, but I was upset this weekend when I went into Chico's. They had so many cute clothes, but not affordable for me. I found a great skirt for only $118. Yeah right. They had tons of racks in the middle of the floor separated by size. They had size 0, size 1, and size 2. Seriously. Who fits in that? My sister-in-law and I turned around and walked out. It made my size 6/8 body feel fat!
Sorry.... couldn't resist in saying I got a brand new (in it's sealed plastic casing) Ben Sherman shirt off eBay for $7 including post and packaging.
Arrived, and not a single defect or colour issue.
Thank you eBay....

I think Abercrombie used to be owned by a different company, the one that owned the Limited and Express. That may be why the sizes are different now.
I know exactly what you're saying about American Eagle, but it's not just that store! Even Mark's Work Wearhouse made me feel fat! Everywhere else I wear a size 14 pant... I went with my mom to shop for some stuff for her work wardrobe and just tried on a pair of comfy looking cords.... A SIZE 18!!!! And this isn't even a store geared towards skinny, starving teens! It's supposed to be a store for middle-aged women with actual hips and thighs! Argh... I was MAD. ...like you couldn't tell ;)
I see no problem with them making only small sizes. It's their right to make the clothes they want and sell them to the people they want. Actually, fitting into a pair of their jeans was a big accomplishment for me and was a goal. I've got no issues with them making only "skinny" clothes :)
On the other end of the spectrum, I love Old Navy, since I fit into a 12 there and a 14 or 16 everywhere else... Gotta love it.
Another thing I've noticed, since lately I've been trying recently to buy stuff without logos all over it, clothes are much cheaper. In my not so humble opinion, why should I pay a premium just to be a walking billboard for a clothing company?

says "zooyork".... *giggle* :)
fw, i have no problem with people making just small sizes, but for god's sake, can't we have some consistency?!?!?! :D
lol, I realize the hypocrisy in it... it's been my online screenname for everything for 10 years, i'd forget if i changed it!
oh i know what you're saying!!!
i don't even know what "294mp" stands for anymore... i've been using it since high school.

change 2 9 and 4 to the letters B I D
change mp into numbers 13 15
You get the message
Bid 13:15
maybe a reminder for an eBay item.
Serious everyone.... I am not obsessed..... I'm Not *rocks back and forth*

I'm a 10 in the women's section of Kohl's, a 12 at Old Navy, a 15 in the junior's section at Target, and apparently a cow at Abercrombie. But that's okay, I have better things to spend my money on.
hmmm, i don't! :) i friggin love shopping! :) lol
Roj, you are simply... hilarious!

I seem to be different sizes in different stores. In some stores I'm size 12, in some I'm size 11. I bought a pair of corduroy pants at Cosco the other day and it was a size 10. I'm not complaining, cause I used to take a size 14-15.
I don't know what's up with Abercrombie, but in more and more stores they have vanity sizing. They lower the numerical size of the clothing to make people think that they are losing weight, and give them a false sense of pride or accomplishment So they'll go back and buy more stuff cause at the OTHER store they're a size 18 but at THIS store they're 16,

within the same store (target), the same day, I've had to get size 8 skirts, size 10 shorts and size 12 pants. So it's no surprise different store have different standards.
Can't understand the lack of standardisation on the clothes.
Surely revenue would increase if people could just buy what they knew or get on-line knowing it would fit.
Maybe a scam to keep you buying the same make as you know what your size is?
*helpless shrug*

Ok, so if stores put smaller label sizes on larger sizes to make women
feel better, can someone tell me why they would to the OPPOSITE for
bridal wear?? Don't you think that if you were going to get
customers to spend a ton of money on a dress for their special day that
you would get a better reaction out of them if - oh say a size 10 fit
insted of the usual size 12. Why do they instead go for the
raction of - HOLY COW I'm a size waht?!?! Do they have secret
ties to the diet industry? ;->
As a consumer, you have the right to not give-in to the marketing hype or the gimmicks. Shop somewhere else and make it known to the company why you are taking your business elsewhere.
If enough women would do this as an organized consumer group, you could easily pressure the business world into not fueling the anorexic clothing trends that are so despised by so many women.
The problem is organizing against the vast numbers of actual women who want to be skinny and don't see it as an attack on their health or their gender. There must be enough of these women to keep the corporations rich and the style trends alive and kicking. How you change their attitudes is the real challenge.
