Abs belts? Worth buying one?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey everybody, well basically just wondering if anyone has tried using abs belts (slendertone etc).
I hate doing sit ups but really want a solid stomach. In the past i've used a friend's which he bought for £7. I could feel it slightly pulsing my stomach but i'm willing to spend more on one (i've seen some for about £70) as long as they work.
Does anyone know if they're worth the money?
Thanks.

*sigh*

So many people think they can get the result of hard work by cheating.  Unfortunately our bodies don't work that way.

No, electric shocks sent to your stomach will not help tone it.  Do the sit ups, save the money
All those machines do is possibly increase the circulation to the area slightly.

The people in the ads got their rock hard abs by using slendertone..... and doing crunches and working out in the gym for hours...
i used one of those stomach belts and it burned the skin where the belt was...

i have this new one i saw in the mall, instead of electric impulses, it just heats up and you pretty much just sweat around your waist for 60 minutes...

also a waste
Jazzislove is right. There's no way to get around it. If you want a 4-pack, you need to work at it. :) No gizmo can do it for you! :)

Much like weight loss, really. The gizmos, diet pills and fads don't work. If you want to lose weight, and keep it off, you need to work at it.
It doesn't work. I thought of buying one but after seeing the results of my aunts I gave up the idea.

Your waist and belly might seem a little bit smaller 1 or 2 hours after you turn it on but soon after your body will resume to it's original state.
Hard work is the only way, as said, to get the abs into shape.

Work the lower abs with leg lifts and stuff, then crunches and so on for the upper abs.   Also work the sides either before, during or after the upper abs... but be sure to do the lower abs first or it'll take a lot longer to get them defined.
Thanks everyone. Pleased my student loan was late otherwise would have bought one there and then. Bought one of the ab things what rock to hopefully make sit ups a little more bearable. And for only £10 as well. Thanks everyone for the advice and saving me money.
Another thing that works well is an Ab Slider...one of those wheel-y things. Really makes me sore anyway!

The only way to get the solid stomach is by simply losing fat (any muscle if firm when contracted, and it is the extra amount of fat surrounding it that is flabby). and this can be done only by having less food than you burn it. And to do this you can start some reasonable nutrition plan but not very restrictive, just curbing the excess of calories. 4 - 6 well balanced meals daily should help you maintain metabolism. Exercise can be of great help - especially weight training 2 to 3 times per week ( to preserve muscle tissue from reduction and prevent drop in metabolism) and aerobic workout like running, brisk walking etc another 2 - 3 times weekly.
As for the ab belt - it was developed from machines used in physiotherapy for stimulating mainly muscles without voluntary control - like after periferal nerve injury. There might be even a risk of degenerative changes in motor units stimulated that way over longer period of time. And of course burning the skin might be an undesired side effect. So this gadget not only is useless, but is based on false premises and can be harmful.
