I'm interested but since i'm only 14 it may be hard for me to do it. If you don't mind I'll like to know more info about it.
It kind of depends on what ot entails....can you give details first?
The Abs Diet focuses on the waist and stomach. Its about losing belly fat first..since belly fat is the most dangerous fat. it focuses eating lean meat, fruits(berries) , veggies, low fat dairy, whole grain pasta, rice, etc. But the most unique thing abut it is that its is a "diet" that fits into UR life instead of u making ur life fit for the diet. Most libraries have a copy of them. U cant miss it, its bright neon orange. and the female version is green. but ive read both their exactly the same. as far as the diet and workouts. the workouts are optional for the first 2 weeks. but are recommended to jump start the diet. the workouts focus on strength training and gaining lean muscle. then second..cardio comes to play a couple times a week. its the only diet that has worked for me and i trully enjoyed being on. the best thing is that part of the diet is to have one free meal a week every week. i know ull love this diet..its really more a lifestyle. please start joining this forum. its a very healthy way of living. i know ppl will have lots  of success with it!
Spot reduction is a myth... anyone telling you their "diet" can do it is flat out trying to scam you.
The author of The Abs diet also just came out with another book called "Eat This, Not That." I bought it and I love it! It is a great resource for anyone even if you aren't on a diet, it's about healthy living.  I would love to know how everything goes for you:)
So this diet...  Has you lifting weights and doing cardio about 3 times a week while cutting fats and eatting fairly lean? My god im super shocked no one has ever thought about doing these three types of things in conjunction before...
okay well people dont have to be rude about it. its funny how ppl get more hits on here.on something like the lemonade diet..then something thats bases on modern medical science. its not spot reduction.by the way..ppl are just being negative. if there is one person who doesnt have any smart comments and wud actually like to go on this with me...let me know. the abs diet is very popular so dont make it be like i just found a random diet.
any diet that says they will "target" stomach fat first ...IS....spot reduction.

That is also a big tip-off that the diet designers have no clue what they are talking about. Its a good idea to stay far away from diets by people who are so clueless about the basics of weightloss.

Also, fatty foods arent "bad" (just calorie dense).

Again, i would stay away from diets where the designers are trying to LIE TO YOU (or, again, have no clue what they are talking about).

Losing weight and getting in shape is not complicated...doesnt need anything magic or special or some cool sounding diet... losing weight needs 1 thing, that is burning more calories then you take in (in any form). Tada, you do that and you WILL lose weight (if you dont...then you are MAGIC because you are breaking the laws of physics!)
From what I've read and heard about the ABS diet, is that it is very similar to what we've all been hearing on Calorie Count.  It promotes a healthier way of eating, focusing on lowering fat and cholesterol, and eating foods with a low glycemic index.  I really wouldn't say it s "fad" like all the other ones out there.  Its really a healthy way of eating.

And as far as all the sarcasm on here...leave it at home!  Don't bring it on here.  If you aren't going to say something productive, dont' say anything at all...

Good luck using the ABS...
a lot of the foods they recommend are foods that burn extra calories to digest - oats, flax seed, raspberries, protein powder, nuts, etc. There is also a huge focus on making smoothies. not sure what that's about... and eating many small meals a day.

I had a few friends who did the diet and loved it, and it really helped them eat better (no fast food, etc) and get working out. They lost weight and were toned and stuff... looking through the book, my one complaint is that there is no regard to calories AT ALL. (they mention it briefly in the Abs Diet for Women.) It totally just disregards the whole input/expenditure logic of eating and weight loss. smoothies can be good for you, but not if you have 4 500 calorie smoothis a day, plus a meal, and plus a few handfuls of nuts in between. So... I've seen it work, but I've never seen long term results.

Here's an idea... read up on it before you bash it. It ISN'T spot reduction. The way you eat and exercise changes your metabolism and you tend to lose the belly first. I did this between pregnancies and lost 7 pounds right in my belly. I then got pregnant and gained 30 right in my tummy. Read up before you speak.
I would like to know more about this diet.

I was in Barnes and Noble the other day and picked up this book and leafed through it. I liked some of the acronyms the book used to remind you of the best choices to make in eating right. It looked interesting.
thanks rachel. lot of ppl here have been negative. i went thru reviews and the abs diet is so geared towards men. i think im going to go on the south beach diet..ive read both..its more geared towards females. and they have  a lot of the same philosophy.
People gain and lose weight differently in various parts of their body... nothing to do with the diet.

Spot reduction is a myth (....this is just fact....sorry, dont know what to tell you).

You cant boost metabolism in your stomach or arms... the metabolism is a general thing.

The abs diet IS A SCAM if they are telling you they can do these things. Really...just read up on weightloss a little bit on your own, there is tons of information around....

The abs diet seems to be simply exploiting the ignorance of general people on the subject....and it seems to be working (even in the face of being told the real sittuation!!!! )

I will HAPPILY join you on this program 1. because I've been following it and if you are willing to do the work and eat better you will see a change in your body and 2. It is easy to follow along with the workouts and even add/modify the workout as far as doing mor cardio on off days, choosing the weight that works for you - whatever you need to do. If anyone has a audible.com account the book and the workout is available there to download to your MP3 player. I saved the workouts to my MP3 player and its like having a trainer there walking me through what I need to do for strength training. The only thing I would let people know is that since you a building muscle the numbers on the scalewon't move as quickly as they would if you were doing mostly cardio - you will feel the difference in the way clothes fit though as you start losing inches if you are following the food recommendations and the exercise program

Reading the negative posts its not hard to see why so many people are overweight and unhappy - yes it is called the Abs diet and yes a big part of the diet is helping people tone and shrink their abs but maybe some of you negative people should actually read more about it or hey - even try it out and form your own INFORMED opinion. I agree with the post that more people would jump on the bandwagon if the original post was to try some crazy diet where you only drink lemonade or something ridiculous like that.

This diest does not simply say you can spot reduce, the program guides you through making better food choices that not only keep you full but give you energy through the workouts that are more geared toward building muscle which has been proven to burn visceral fat (the fat around most peoples abs). Also for women this is an excellent program as studies have shown that we lose bone mass later in life and building muscle is a way to keep us strong and less likely to break/fracture hips, wrists when we are older (no one says you have to bulk up - it is unlikely to happen anyway)

I have also heard great things about this diet.

I haven't even read the book -- I read a review that said that ABS POWER DIET is an acronym for some of the really good for you foods that you should be leaning towards... Almonds, berries, spinach and other leafy greens, p I forget, oatmeal.... etc. It is info we already know, but neatly packaged so that when I'm standing in line to buy lunch or feeling hungry at the grocery store, I can easily think of something with a lot of nutritional benefits.

Many times the suggestion is "eat an apple" or "eat some carrot sticks" but that gets boring! The idea of mentally perusing the foods suggested by the acronym adds an element of fun to picking out healthful foods.

I've actually used it when I'm staring into my fridge, and it has helped me make some good choices. Isn't that what it's all about? Making good choices?

So there's my fairly uninformed opinion, given I haven't even read the book -- but maybe it's like the movies -- the best part is in the preview!

I have a comment for loriklorik-

I am a chef who teaches and works revising hospital and nursing homes menus- I spend a lot of time with Register Dietitians- by far and away they are happy with any diet that gets people eating reasonable portions of healthy food.

Don't be such a grouch.

I agree with you that it is a good, sound diet. It souldn't really be called a "diet", because it gets people a bit aprehensive. It's much more a way of healthy living, which all "diets" shouldfocus on.

That being said though, I have tried it, but I have to say it had me thinking about food all the time!! With all the prep, and planning the meals, it was just too much for me. I felt like that was all I had room for, planning what I was gonna eat next. So, I disagree a little that it is for people on the go. I would say, it's more for peolpe who have plenty time to devote to sticking with this... (I tried the actual menu they provided for two weeks). At least until you get used to totally changing the way you eat and think about food...I still haven't mastered that! :(

Anyway, to all the nay-sayers: don't be so quick to judge! This doesn't promise it will shave 10 inches off your waist in 2 weeks, but it gives you tools to do that for the rest of your life.

So work hard, and keep at it. Good luck neneokafor!

The abs diet isn't really a special diet, it just reccomends healthy foods (namely good fats, complex carbs, and lean proteins).  It's a creation of Men's Health Magazine.  ABSDIET is an acronynm for some of the foods (i.e. A for almonds, avocado, etc.).

I don't think i have ever heard it claim to reduce abdominal fat first above other areas.  Though spot reduction is not a myth; see Stallknecht et al. (2006),American Journal Physiology Endocrinology Metabolism vol.292 for one example.  Another:

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/271881/How-To-Bur n-Belly-Fat-FIRST!

This last finding was also consistent with a recent dissertation on a different group of women (I don't think it has gone through official peer review but if the dissertation was accepted, it is probably legit).
The link doesnt do much to support that spot reduction is not a myth... simply that HIIT is more effective in losing fat (3 times as much as the other group... of course they are losing more belly fat... )

I think its an issue of how much fat is there compared to other places... if you have a larger portion of fat around your belly, you might notice you losing fat at that area "faster" as you lose a certain percentage of your overall bodyfat.

... like if your belly had 500 fat, your legs had 200 fat, your arms 100 fat, and your butt 200 fat... if your lost 10 percent of your fat, you would see 50 belly fat being lost! and only 20 legs, 10 arm, 20 butt.... so it would "seem" like your losing the belly fat faster and spot reducing.

But anyway, some of these diets work for some people (because they bet on whatever advice they are giving is better then the fast food / snack filled diets of their clients anyway). But the people on them have no idea whats going on... they never are actually told the simple facts behind weightloss (calories in vs calories out). They are never taught how to structure and plan a days eating to stay within caloric needs... they never learn anything other then "oh, apples are 1 point!".

Its just a dumbed down system for people who dont feel like really educating themselves about weightloss...
