The Abs Diet

Quote  |  Reply
I have HAD IT! I've tried every single diet on planet earth and I'm still FAT! I'm sick of being restricted and feeling hungry. I go three days on my new "diet"  or "new way of eating" ...whatever you want to call it and then I CRASH. I can't eat like that! I have been a big eater since I was a child. I was always thin until about two years ago when I got pregnant.

So today I picked up the Abs diet, which focuses on what you CAN eat...not what you CAN't.

I'm looking forward to this because it looks like I will actually be able to eat...six times a day....REAL food.

Anyone ever tried it? Please tell me any success stories you have!

No, I haven't heard of it. But I agree that an acceptable plan for eating should include what you can eat, not what you can't.

Tell us more about the abs diet
Simply put it's this;

Almonds and other nuts

Beans and legumes

Spinach and veggies

Dairy

Instant Oatmeal (unflavored)

Eggs

Turkey and other lean meat

Peanut Butter

Olive Oil

Whole Grain breads and cereals

Extra (whey) protein

Raspberries and other berries
Make sure to have 2 of the above at each meal. Eat six times a day. Dairy for calcium, eggs and fish for Omega 3's, Nuts for Omega 3's and good fats.....etc....

So far, from what I've read, it seems sensible, like something I can really follow and not freak out on! Usually I end up so hungry that I eat an entire cake and a big mac and lots of other stuff!

I basically read up on the nuts and bolts of it at Barnes and Noble's today and then I bought the sidekick book that has all the meal plans and recipies.

He stresses protein smoothies (an idea I love!) and oh yeah, the biggest factor he says is NOT aerobics but building lean muscle to rev up your metabolism. Makes sense to me. I like weights better than walking anyway.

I've got a "before" picture and I'm gonna keep you guys posted on my progress for the next six weeks!

Wish me luck!
Make sure you think about what you are going to do to maintain the lower weight that you reach ahead of time.

When following plans, people do lose weight, but have major issues keeping it off when they stop the plan.  They go back to eating how they used to and gain the weight back.

So make sure maintenance is part of your plan.

Good luck!

That just sounds like the average body builder diet -)
Instead of instant oatmeal I'd use the real stuff cook it with skim milk and add either a tablespoon f flax seed oil instead of olive oil or 2 tablespoons milled flax seed - then you get your omega's your dairy and your oatmeal.

I personally can't do "smoothies".  I hate yogurt and don't care for blended fruit and whatever else they put in those things.  I guess this is why I have a hard time with so many diet plans - seems they all push the yogurt and smoothies EWWWW!!!

I wish you the very best of luck.
bigtwinky....I'm set to eat this way the rest of my life. I don't forsee changing anything...ever. I love the foods I am allowed to eat. In fact, I've eaten four times today, been full all day and so far only had 1200 calories and I have 2 more meals left.

There's a cheat day included in this diet too. I like that!

I made a distinct decision NOT to go on anymore diets. That's why I chose this particular way of eating because it closely resembles the way I already eat, I'm just not eating breads unless it's whole wheat and other stuff like that.

I'm totally satisfied with what I get to eat and won't change my eating habits even when I get back down to 135.

I got to admit I don't understand the powders. Personally I'd replace them with real food.

Powders might be okay if you don't have time but that's the only reason I can see for them if you're trying to drop some weight.
Powders?

The Smoothies I make area all fruit with skim milk.
Mostly it's for convenience too. I waitress six hours a day so I can't take time for lunch.
lookie here, I've been on the diet since late April .. I started at 323 lbs .. and last Sunday I weighed in at 250 lbs.  The ABS diet I prefer to call a change in lifestyle, it's real foods that are good for you, and the metabolism increase is evident.  There are a bunch of diets out there, that use the same concept, six meals, whole grains, proteins, good fats, exercise .. this was the way we as people are intended to live .. not just the morbid in weight.  Facts revolve around the metabolisms, people can eat like they want most of their early years, but as soon as they hit their 30's, their metabolism breaks down and start seeing results of the junk they have consumed all their lives.  Same goes for some women, they eat what they want but sometimes the procreation process disrupts the metabolism, and they start see negative results.  Bad foods are just plain bad, people with naturally increased metabolisms just disguise it for a while or longer .. but they contract some diseases and complications in the long run.  This type of "diet" should be incorporated by the fat and thin alike.  Refined foods and cheap substitutes are literally killing the people of this world, all in the name of money and profits.  For me, it's the combination of being healthy for myself and in what I believe in the Word of God, if my body is the temple of the Spirit of God, why would I house something Divine in a literally unclean body laid up in the hospital with a diabetic complication praying to the Lord for a healing while I secretly stuff a unhealthy greasy snack down my throat when the nurse is away ... yeah, I've been there and I was wrong.  I've lost a bunch of weight in seven months, but I've got a lot of years to live ... so I think I in reality I have just begun.  Good Luck!! I'm sure you can do it for yourself, and for your family that should be involved too.  The "free" meal is a good thing, something to look forward to, just make sure you keep up the rest of the six meals, don't skip the before and after meals and snacks .. it'll keep you regular and you will avoid falling off the wagon.
Thanks for sharing your story yellow! I'm proud of you! Keep up the good work.

I am full and cannot believe I have to eat AGAIN tonight. Wow. I had a good time shopping at Wal Mart tonight because I didn't have to do anything complicated at all. Just picked up some whole wheat english muffins and what's best of all...I got some of those Kettle Cooked potato chips that have NOTHING in them but potatoes and sea salt cooked in sunflower oil! The best thing about all this is...for some weird reason, I'm not craving sweets today.

The ABS Diet is wonderful!  My husband and I have been following the eating plan for almost 2 years now.  He found it in Men's Health Magazine.  The book is actually written the by the editor of the mag.   Whether you need to lose weight or not, this is the way that we all need to eat for the rest of our lives.  It is all about FOOD QUALITY.   You will be leaner and healthier in no time.  We literally purged our kitchen of all "bad" foods and now only stock the "good" ones.  (Except for occasional treats.  But hey, that is what makes life worth living!)

In the initial 6 weeks, my husband lost 25 pounds and I lost 10.   We are now 46 and 40 yrs old and have been able to adopt this new lifestyle with ease and don't feel deprived of anything.    For diet and recipe updates and new recipes, check out Men's Health or Women's Health Magazines.  They both give a lot of useful info on the plan.

ENJOY!
I have never heard of the abs diet. However, it is practically a carbon copy of the eating program I have been following since January of this year. I started at 343 and now weigh 242. The only way I seem to deviate from what you have described is that I work out aerobically along with my weight training. There just seems to be a synergistic effect there. I am very happy to have read this post because it validates (along with my weight loss) the approach I have taken.  I am very comfortable eating this way and see no problem staying with this the rest of my life.  Thanks for the post.

I'm in week 2 of it. I really like it so far. I wouldn't compare it to south beach diet at all. It's just a sensible way of eating and you combine workout with it. I read the original one and it just doesn't add the info about osteop., post PPD, etc....

I love the workouts. Highly suggest buying the DVD.  See if your library has them first so you can see if you like it or not.

i went on the abs diet too..im 17. it was so eassy....i loved it. it is a lifestyle change..and its the lifestyle that i would want to live with. get a copy at ur library..like i did. highly recommend it!
So today I picked up the Abs diet, which focuses on what you CAN eat...not what you CAN't.

Ok... im going to make it really really simple. What you CAN eat is X amount of calories (anything, you can eat pure butter or chocolate cake if you felt like it).

What you CANT eat is over your calories.

Tada...this will make it so you stay your current weight! If you eat less, you will lose weight!

Working out can burn extra and help build muscle and boost your resting metabolism...and the fine details get more complicated....

But weightloss is really not that complicated. Its not about magic foods or avoiding bread or anything else... its about tracking what you take in compared to what you burn... thats EVERYTHING.

ANYONE who tells you something different is lieing to you. Simple as that. They are trying to sell you something or just dont understand it themselves.

....how can people fall for fad diets like this? o.O
Thank you, Loriklorik. Well said. I've disagreed with you before on views of situations ect. However, I couldn't agree more with you on this one.

um.. if you actually read anything further about the "abs diet" -- you'd know its not a diet at all.

1200 calories a day does not necessarily mean you are eating healthy.  You might be losing weight, but how much of it is fat and how much is muscle?

I could eat 400 at breakfast lunch and dinner and be at 1200 calories, but would that be healthy? absolutely not.

If you enjoy counting every calorie for every day for the rest of your life -- good luck with that.  Personally I prefer to spend my time doing other things, and this abs diet is a healthy way to go!

If you still want to count calories, at least make sure you never eat High Fructose Corn Syrup & no partially hydrogenated oils.

I followed the AbS diet for about a year and it worked well for me. My experience is, like exercise, you have to change things up a bit otherwise you reach points where you get stuck & frustrated. Now I'm trying to incorporate the ABS program into the CC program. Good, healthy eating, foods that boost your metabolism (Dairy), some fats (nuts, peanut butter) to keep you satisfied and exercise to up the Burn Meter and build muscle (ABS) to keep your metabolism firing. I really liked the ABS exercise program...it builds muscle fast and keeps your heart rate up....
