Okay, so I've lost a lot of weight, right? And my stomach is getting smaller, and flatter, right? But here's the thing. I want abs. I don't need a 6 pack, really. I just want my stomach to be at least completely flat. So is it possible to do this with just moderate exercise? Basically, my question is this: How dedicated do I have to be to get well-toned abs? Right now, I just started (for like the last 3 days) doing about 120 jackknives a day. I rest for about 5 to 10 seconds in between each set of 10 reps for the first 100 jackknives, then I do a set of 20 after working other parts of my body. If I keep this up everyday,  will that be enough to get well toned abs? Or do I have to have a whole ab work-out routine? Let's see... A little background info on me. I'm 6 feet tall and currently 229 Lbs. I started at 276Lbs a little over to months ago. I don't think I've lost that much muscle, because after taking my measurements about once a week I found that I'm losing inches in everything BUT my biceps and my calves, so I think I'm building muscle in those areas. But I still want to get down to 200 Lbs, and maybe put on a few pounds of muscle (especially in my biceps and abs). Any advice?

Generally, men can see their abs when around and under 10% body fat. Ab exercises are good for keepig the ab muscles in shape, but you won't see any effects until you get rid of the fat covering them. And for that, diet itself is more important than exercise. It seems like you're doing the right things - keep it up, and best of luck!

Ab definition is a function of low body fat.  You diet is the most important factor in lowering your body fat.

The Hierarchy of Fatloss would probably be a good read.

Everyone wants a six pack. But it's ridiculously difficult to get and you need discipline. But here's the basics.

1. You will never have abs until you get rid of the fat covering them. Sorry. You need 12% body fat at the LOWEST to have them visible. Abs are just muscles that wrap around your core so they won't grow outward and become more noticeable and "bigger" like your arms will with weight training.

2. How dedicated do you need to be? Pretty dedicated. You need to make sure you're taking in less calories then you're burning - so a strict diet and lots of heavy cardio is the answer. Do your best to get your share of protein, too. Also very important.

3. Stop doing 120 jacknives a day. Don't train any body part every day - muscles need time to rest and repair or you'll just destroy your core. Do abs Monday - Wednesday - Friday, and do cardio on the other days. I'd get a couple different exercises to switch it up, too - bicycles, crunches, leg raises (use youtube. It's your best friend.)

4. So yeah. Keep losing weight, space out your training, and get more variety in your workout.

Good luck.
