Acai Berry and Colon cleanse-Do they work?
I've seen so much lately about acai berry and colon cleansing lately. Do they actually work? And if they do, does anybody know which products are the best?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forum
Here's a current Acai Berry thread: http://caloriecount.about.com/acai-berry-prod uct-work-wonder-true-ft139599. You might find some helpful information there.
As for colon cleanses, do they work? They do if you want to clean out your colon. If you want to do a colon cleanse to lose weight, then forget it.... the weight will come back on fairly quickly. I'll leave the colon cleanse question to others. I already know what's coming and don't want to be the bad guy this time! ![]()
Well, I don't think you're the bad guy and I appreciate your reply!
Hee Hee Hee Kauf, I caught that one on an earlier thread. Have a great weekend!
As far as colon cleanses, I really think that since I have been eating much healthier (and walking a bunch more) for about the past month, my body has done that job all by itself! Give your body a chance first before resorting to ummm, lets just say, less than healthy alternatives (i.e. Acai Berry, colon cleanses, hydroxycut etc.)
Calorie Count Plus does not support the promotion of cleanses and fasts for dieting purposes.
If you want to cleanse, eat these foods which are healthy, mainly low cal and naturally cleansing ...
Fruit
Fresh or frozen fruit.
Vegetables
All fresh vegetables. Vegetables thought to be particularly good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets, red and green vegetables.
Rice
All forms of rice, including rice cakes, rice crackers and rice pasta. Brown rice is typically preferred.
Other Grains
Quinoa, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat can be used instead of rice. They can be purchased at a health food store or in some grocery stores.
Beans
Split yellow and green peas and lentils are easiest to digest and require the least soaking time. Other good options include kidney beans, pinto beans, mung beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas) and adzuki beans.
Nuts and Seeds
Unsalted nuts or seeds can be sprinkled over salads or eaten as a snack. Good options include flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews and walnuts. Nut butters are permitted. Peanuts and peanut butter are usually not recommended.
Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil is a preferred oil.
Condiments
Vegetable salt, sea salt, vinegar, soy sauce or tamari, all herbs or spices.
Tea
Herbal teas, green tea.
Other Beverages
Water, lemon water, pure unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, rice milk
Daily Detox Do's
Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day, warm or room temperature.
Take the time to chew food well, especially grains.
no, they do not work. They are very profitable though.
I have not personally seen a difference in my weight at all with Acai Berry. As for the colon cleanse...I think if you have been eating horrible for years and you have alot of built up junk in there then you may loose some weight by doing it, but it isnt a absolute fix it will come back if you dont eat right. Colon cleansers are made with alot of fiber so might as well take a fiber supplement and save some money there. But diet and exercise is your best bet in the weight issue.
rather than a fiber supplement, people should just eat more fruits, veges, and whole grains - and drink enough liquids (see the specifics in the CC recommendations a few posts back). Most people are short on the water part.
Well what I dont make in my diet I supplement. I really cant get 1200 colories a day no matter how hard I try. I drink water all day long and now I throw in Vitamin Water (because I like the taste its really not good for you). IF you can get it in fruits and veggies then GREAT do that..but if you cant supplement.
It all comes down to calorie count and Acai berries, while having numerous health benefits, are also very high in calories.
As for colon cleanses, I used to do the "Master Cleanse" (aka the lemonade fast) fast for detoxification purposes. I'd loose some weight as a side effect, but it always came back quickly.
