accusatory mother

Before I left for my freshman year of college, my mom and I started working out and dieting together. Both of us are health nuts, and know the problems with crash dieting and all that stuff. We were each other's support systems. I left for college, and my mom had to deal with a lot of stuff at home and stopped dieting. I lost the weight I wanted to, and I'm now healthy and just trying to slowly shed the last 2 pounds, but I'm really in no rush to. However, the minute I walked in the door home from college, she started in on how I'd lost too much weight and wasn't eating near enough. She's a health professional and knows how much is too much and vice versa, and my dad has got my back, saying I just choose to snack throughout the day instead of eat three huge meals, but monitor what I eat to make sure I'm getting enough of the essentials. How can I tell her what she's doing is making me feel terrible about myself without hurting her feelings? Its been a very, very rough year on her.

How about showing her your entry? Open it for her, ask her to read it (leave her alone as she does) and when she is finished, ask her if she wants to talk about it.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck. =)

Dang. Rough.

Yea, just cut her a little slack because as you said it has been a very rough year. You are a very kind/compassionate daughter. plus you are mature. I like that!

Maybe you could explain to her what she is saying is hurting you emotionally even though what she is telling you comes from a loving place. You know that she loves you and only wants you to be healthy and happy that's what makes her such a great mom. However, as an adult, you are entitled to have an opinion on your OWN body. As long as a doctore says I am healthy at this weight, I feel you should remember to respect my own feelings on my body.

Really stress that you know she loves you and you are very happy that she is being such a thoughtful mom to watch out for your health. stuff like that.

I dont know if any of it will work but that's how I do it with my aunt!
