I have been trying to recover and eating more food for almost three weeks now. Since eating more, I have started getting a lot of zits on my face. I keep thinking that it might be because my hormones are kicking into gear. I haven't had a period for nearly four years, and I rarely had any acne during the time period. Before anorexia, I would get the occasional zit prior to my period starting. I would also experience some white discharge, and I thought that I saw some of this over the past week, so I am hoping that this is period related. Does anyone else have any experience with these issues?
Also, I went home for the weekend, and I am so sick of hearing comments about my weight. I am so sick of everyone talking about how I need to eat or how I need to gain weight. I just want to scream to them that I am really trying, but people just don't understand the daily struggle. This is just a rant now.
I really hope that someone responds about the acne and also did anyone experience any diarhea during refeeding? Thanks!
I have had times where I broke out. I think it was my body adjusting to fats etc. I have also had issues with bowels but usually constipated but will have my explosion times as I call them. Have you been to the doctor to get a physical? I would just to make sure everything is ok. It can take time for a body to adjust to even good changes. As for comments can you tell them what can help you and also how the comments impact you? People are concerned and confused so it is your job to tell them how you can be helped. Some will continue to do it but at least you used your voice and hopefully most will respect that.
ive had periods where ive become spotty, honestly its nothing abnormal for the reasons like abbi said , despite your ed some people are just prone to spots and because you are eating better thats probably why. if you are concerned perhaps see a doctor.i know the comment are annoying try to use them to help you keep going. some people think it might help saying this , also people with ed tend to go in denial about there apperance this is a reminder. its only because they care. ive suffered with stomach and bowel problems while refreeding my last attempt at recovery id have days of bowel movement then be constipated for a week i ended up in a and e once i was in agony they thought i had an appendicitus and it turned out all i needed was a good trump:) joking apart its just the bodies way of getting and functioning normally h x
I get acne breakouts on my face and back when eating more, especially dairy. They will be worth it in the end though :)
It may be more WHAT you're eating, rather then how much you're eating that leads to the breakouts
here's some common foods that are associated with acne:
-dairy
-sugars
-artificial sweeteners
-toxins... make sure to ALWAYS wash produce, and buy organic more often
-processed foods
-junk foods
-saturated fats
-pork
-white flour
try avoiding foods that tend to make you break out, drinks LOTS of water to hydrate skin and flush out toxins, eat plenty of fresh fruits/vegetables, eat healthy fats (avacado, fish, nuts, olive oil), excersize regularly to promote blood circulation to the skin
don't eat foods that have been overly processed, or unnatural for consumption... you know, use common sense. Cakes, cookies, hotdogs, chips, soda pop, syrup..etc. are going to do nothing but negative things to your body. Even if they don't make you break out, they should just be avoided in general for optimal health
EAT WHAT U WANT, please disregard above post!
if u like it, eat it, it has nothing to do w/ WHAT ur eating its a normal hormonal reaction+is actually healthy. its temporary, nothing to do w WHAT ur eating.
About the acne, I agree eat what you want, but maybe you could try alternating cutting out one food for a few days and see if it helps any, if not resume eating it and try another food, ect.
umm, yeah acne IS hormonal
BUT certain foods can actually worsen it... especially processed foods, sugars, and dairy
dairy contains hormones that react with your own hormones and can cause breakouts to worsen, since it can cause your glands to produce more oils
toxins found in artificial sweeteners, processed foods, and pesticides can contribute to clogged pores and lead to breakouts
...and you're telling the OP to disregard drinking water, eating vegetables/fruits, and healthy fats? but yet consume as much processed foods that contain no nutritional value as you want??? umm okay there..
I've had terribly oily acne prone skin since I hit puberty (thanks mom..) but it's been under control for over 4 years now thanks to Proactiv Solution... I highly recommend it!!
I could never control my skin before, and would hide my face behind clothing or makeup whenever in public... but now that I have cleaned up my diet and found an skin care regime that works, it is very rare that I breakout... and even when I do it's gone within a day!!
I am not ashamed or upset about the acne in any way. I was hoping that it might be my hormones kicking into gear because i have been eating better. I didn't mean that i was going to start restricting or that i was in any way afraid of having the acne. I was just wondering if anyone else has developed more acne since they started recovery.

hi ctigger1 - i am going through the same thing - have a few breakouts on my skin. Nothing that keeping up water intake and using a bit of face wash and make up can't fix though! :)
