Acne dot dot dot

Hey,

I've read that people on hear are experiencing acne as a result of weight gain.  This is a very common problem.

I have acne, and I have noticed that many thin people (not necessaryily from ED, just naturally build thin) have acne.

One solution I can offer is to lower the glycemic load of your food intakes.  This does not mean eat less.  I can't explain glycemic index here, but google it if you want an in depth description.  Basically, carbohydrates cause spikes in your blood sugar.  These spikes are followed by insulin response (greater response for greater spike).  The insulin then causes excess inflammation (which leads to acne, which is essentially inflammation)

The solution is to lower the glycemic index (carb breakdown and sugar spike) of your meals.  The 3 things to make sure your getting with meals that will lower the glycemic load are: fats, protein, and fiber.  Try to combine these things into your food to reduce the blood sugar spike and resulting inflammation.

Another tip is to not eat high carb meals before bed.  Your body is going into rest, so it won't be able to burn off the sugar spike.

Go to acne.org and look at the diet section for more tips (trust me, i'm not spamming for them, I WISH I worked for them, lol)

That's it!

Below I will include a list of "changes" you can make to your meal plan.

Banana --> Banana with peanut butter

Fruit Smoothy --> Fruit smoothy with cream

PB&J --> (use natural PB w/ no sugar and whole wheat bread)

Toast and jelly --> use a lot of butter with the jelly

Dairy Products --> go full fat

Chips --> chips & hummus

Pasta --> add olive oil and maybe meatballs

Basically, my favorite is to add PB to everything.  Has fiber, fat, protein, and little carbs.

Thank you boogur, very helpful :)

Thanks, it's right too, in case anyone's wondering.

If your acne is down to diet, and after making sure you aren't deficient in fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins, low glycemic is definitely the way to go. As said, you don't have to avoid high sugary glycemic foods, but if you eat them, add protein/fat/fibre, so blood sugar levels don't spike up (this is a main cause of acne for some!). If you need something sweet, try getting more used to fruit anyway. It's lovely and sweet and once you're used to it, you won't have so many cravings for such refined sugary things (fruit is better because fibre lowers glycemic index).

Just some random information. Cool

adding butter and cream is healthy since when? unsaturates are obviously better.
