Ahhhh what to do?

Some people look fine with acne; you can look past it, and they can still look handsome or pretty (for some strange reason, its easier to look past acne on guys than girls, although not always).
But I'm the type of person who usually has clear skin, but I get breakouts just really once in a while, and its just so noticable and stark contrast to before.

My doctor says that some of it has to do with your diet?

(I hear really bad reviews from people who use proactiv; becoming dependant on it for clear skin and stuff).

Even so, I know alot of people who were raised on a very healthy diet and they still have acne..

Any advice, fellow sufferers? =[

I don't think acne and diet are that closely related.  I had terrible acne in high school...I did accutane for a year, which I hated.  But in the process I discovered that the pill is pretty handy.  So I went on Diane-35, and it was great.  I only get occasional minor breakouts now.  I use a benzoyl peroxide cream on them and it works pretty well.  For me, I experimented a bit with different face washes and moisturizers etc. to find a good regimen for me, and now that I have it I pretty much stick to it.

oh, honey,

i had cystic acne for YEARS. i still have scars on my face 3 years after it stopped being a huge problem. i still get zits and the occasional cyst, but using 2.5% benzoyl peroxide really helped me. go to acne.org and follow that regimen. it sounds too good to be true, but it did work for me.

i blame the onset of my acne on proactiv, by the way. my dad is obsessed with acne and made me start using that when i was like 10, a bit young to even get acne but i got it anyway after starting to use it.

I know that for me, acne IS at least partly related to my diet. Often if I've been eating lots of food with additives and preservatives it'll show on my face. About a week ago I had a bit of a detox week where I tried to eat as natural foods as possible, so I only ate fruits, veggies, brown rice, yogurt, nuts & seeds, fish and drank water and tea. My skin looked the best it had all year by the end of it. Drinking heaps of water helps me as well, sodas and diet sodas break me out.

I usually rely on makeup to cover it all up and it works quite well. I'm hoping I'll grow out of it, but even so people can have 'adult acne' well into their 30's and 40's, so I don't know how realistic waiting it out is. You probably already do this, but make sure to cleanse your face at least once a day (I do this twice a day, using cetaphil cleanser - but be careful not to use too much of the cleanser because I think if you use too much it kind of sticks to your skin even after you wash it off, so I only use about 2 squirts of it)

I did go to a dermatologist last year, and she gave me something that partially cleared me for a while, but my clear skin only lasted a few months. Unfortunately it's just one of those things :( I've tried just about everything in the book, except for things like accutane and proactiv (I've also heard bad things about becoming dependent on it).

My mom tells me she suffered from acne until she gave birth to me at the age of 43.. And I started getting unclear skin at age of 8! My school mates would come to me and ask me what the little things on my forehead were :(

And not only do I get them on my face, they form pretty much anywhere.. I first blamed shaving for occasional ones under armpits or on the thighs, but they never disappeared.

Diane 35 did help me a lot, but they made cellulite way worse and I started getting migraines with my periods and stopped taking them after first pack.

My skin doesn't actually even look that bad from far, it's just that if you come real close, you can see all the blocked pores and I definately feel them all over my body if I run my hands over my skin. Funny, my boyfriend doesn't. I wish my hands were so insensitive!

No peeling or mask or eliminating them the unhelthy way helps, they just fill up again in a day or two. And squeezing them caused me some little scars near my nose and a little discoloration on my chest, which I will never be able to really fix.. I'm trying to stop it, but so far I'm not very good at it. At least I don't molest my face anymore and all the big acne have disappeared since, except before period.

from my exp. i have tried proactive and it really irritated my skin. I have pale skin with acne and redness on chin mostly (a lot of which is scarring). This stuff just made me itch and it was awful. .....I will be going to dermatologist next week to finally see what they can do.

I don't think the products in my country have same names as in US, but I've been using an roll-on antibiotic and some smelly cream dermatologist perscribed me. I couldn't use the cream on my face at all as it would itch and become deep red, but I did use it on my shoulders/back and it helped a little. I also tried using it on decolletage but it itched and after 3 days made my skin get brown and then it peeled off like a layer of parchment. It was good and clean for a day, then it all happened again.. Definately wasn't worth the suffering.

Well I had acne for a while so I did a lot of research on it to help me understand what is the point of these annoying bumps. And really every person is different. I know some people who get acne if they eat 1 bite of candy, while I know others who can binge on junk and not even get one blackhead. Acne is really just trial and error, but if you are looking for something new Clinique Acne Solutions worked well for me and I have sensitive skin.

I had really BAD acne. everything from pimples, black heads, white head, those pimples that really hurt, yeah had really bad acne.

Nothing seemed to work for it, Proactive didnt work, the stuff the dermatologist gave me didnt work. . .and so on.
But i just started to use this stuff called "Nature's Cure" It has done a 180 on my skin. I havent had this good of skin in a long time, and it works fast, i have only been using it for about a month.
Its natural, and not harsh on the skin
I would give it a try. :]

Papules and Pustules (pimples) have to do with the Sebatious Glands (Oil glands).    Acne is a result of an inflammation of these glands from retained secretions.

You should see your dermatoligist for treatment.

I had acne for years. Ugh, it was horrible. From like sixth grade to ninth. It was all genetic, according to my dermatologist and I was on some really strong **** for years. It has faded now thank goodness. I had a pretty crappy diet when I was younger cause I was skinny and therefore could eat whatever I wanted in my opinion, but I happen to know that changing how I ate wouldn't have affected my skin. A good medication is Tazorac, its prescription and really cleared me up. Now I'm on a low dose daily medication and haven't seen a zit in months :)

Do you typically get breakouts during or right before your period?  I had bad acne for a long time, and it's starting to clear up on most of my face, but I have awful hormonal acne.  Along my jawline and my chin, I break out days before I have my period and it takes two or more weeks to clear up.  Then, of course... again.  I was switched to Ortho TriCycline Lo by a dermatologist, because it would "help."  Go figure, I just noticed five years later he's an idiot.  It's Ortho Tricycline, not Lo, that has been proven to clear up hormonal acne.  Dunce!  The key for me is to just drink an extra 8 oz of water a day for whatever your water intake should be and wash your face 3 x a day, morning and evening with whatever regiment you use, and in the middle of the day when you get home from work with semi-hot water.  Good luck!

I HATE MY ACNE !!!I get it all the time! I mostly get huge breakouts across my forehead because i exercise a lot and the sweat makes my forehead dirty. I wash it right after but it doesnt do much.

I only have a few little ones on my forehead (Thank God, I took after my father not my mother who had it bad). Have you tried washing it with Proactive Solution? Usually, that works great on some people.

Anyway, my doctor told me that you can get acne from eating a lot of chocolate (but it only happens to some, like my brother), and from drinking things like Coke and Pepsi.

Wash your face twice a day. In about a month it should be gone, gone, gone. Using soaps with salicylic acid can REALLY help as well.
