Acne Scars
I've heard all kinds of things about vitamin E lotions/pills/capsules being good for you. I've also heard about micro-dermabrasion. Any proof any of it works? Not sure. Too much blah blah blah on both sides.
Just use a good lotion without a ton of gross additives (more natural the better, I say), and stick to a good sunscreen (look for makeups with spf 15 or better already in them). The scars will fade with time, and look less glaringly THERE if your whole face is glowing healthy.
EXFOLIATION !!
I use Bliss Sleeping Peel at night. I'm not sure if it's working for the hyperpigmentation, but it's definitely working at making my skin feel super soft and smooth. I'm going to try Clinique's Even Better Skin Tone Corrector next, since it was made specifically for dark spots/patches and I'm considering micro-dermabrasion.
The key to acne scar treatment is to let the existing ones fade without generating any new ones. If you still get acne popping up, no amount of treatment is going to work on your scars because you'll always be getting new ones. I would go to a dermatologist. He/she will be more knowledgeable in acne prevention and post-acne mark treatments.
It takes time, but improving your overall health will help your skin's health. Drinking plenty, not attacking your face, keeping it clean and decently moisturised, and plenty of patience will eventually have those scars unnoticable.
And if that's not workin' for you, check with a dermatologist.
Are the old scars?
If not, what I do is put polysporin on somewhat new scars, cover it with a bandaid and go to bed. They should be gone in several days.
i have more than a few acne scars (a LOT of makeup in my photo and they're not super dark to begin with), so i talked to my dermy about it. he told me i can get them removed with a newfangled laser procedure they have.
for some folks it takes one procedure, but it can take up to 6 procedures, and they're a month apart. the total healing process is a few weeks.
but first, you should do everything you can to keep the acne from coming back, so you don't end up wasting money on the procedure. and the price isn't astronomical. it's like $500 a session. again, you may only need one, and the results can last from a few years to 10 years to forever. i'm getting it done later this year after i get my skin back under control.
talk to a cosmetic dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in dermatologic procedures.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone!! In terms of skincare I use spf 15 lotion daily and use a Dove bar and bufpuf sponge for cleansing. Are there any benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid products I should try instead in order to fight off acne? I feel like I've tried everything from here to the moon but the only thing that really worked for me was Proactiv. But, alas, it got too expensive for my budget and bleached all my pillowcases and towels. I have combination skin and when I get whiteheads I love to pick em. I know that's really bad, but I can't resist, when I see something pop up I have to get it OUT.
cellulitedelight - do they make a sensitive skin version of the apricot scrub?
missli - is the Clinique product you mentioned a mask, lotion, or spot treatment?
