actimel....?

Quote  |  Reply

What do people think of actimel?

Do any of you drink it?

I used to have them every day, but not had one in a while, got bored and have different yoghurt type things etc.

Do you think its all clever advertising, or are they a good thing to drink daily?

Largely they're clever advertising.   They won't harm you but as to whether they're actively beneficial is debatable.  If you get a good diet (including live yoghurt) and you're in good health the chances are that the bacteria in your gut are functioning nicely.  If you're getting a poor diet and you're in poor health, it's doubtful that a yoghurt drink is going to make all that much difference.

"Alexa Meyer, from the Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Vienna, Austria, comparing probiotic drinks and normal yoghurt, found no significant difference in the effect of Actimel and normal yogurt with living bacteria. The nutritional researcher recommends to get enough sleep, wash hands often and eat a daily bowl of yoghurt. She says this would activate more active germ-fighting white blood cells, enhancing the immune system, probably due to the presence of Lactobacillus bulgarius, from any normal yogurt, which has half the price of Actimel."
