I've been using Liberty brand's plain kefir as a starter culture .works very well and is easy to make. My husband who has a lifelong problem with a"sensitive" stomach, finds it very helpful to have about a cup every day. It is "sweetened" with banana and vanilla in a blender and he adds a tablespoon or more of wheat bran to make it "healthier".
Activa yogurt, the probiotic yogurt, work out to be more expensive compared to the homemade kefir. Also they may not work as been "healthier" since its easier to control the "sharpness" of the kefir with less sugar. (I've found sharpness of homemade yogurt require more"sugar") The sweetness of the banana or other fruit is sufficient for my husband.
I have tried the Activia yogurt, and I enjoyed it very much. Nice flavors too!
It is a bit expensive though. I found that the expiration dates on them
did not last too long however. You really do have to eat them everyday in order
that they remain fresh. But, overall, I would give them a thumbs up for flavor
and that they work also...several benefits I believe in choosing this product.
For myself, I have to watch the sugars I consume because of diabetes also, so
I don't buy them as often anymore.
good luck, ladibugcrazi ![]()
I have been experience same stomach cramping. Bloating and just icky lower GI problem after eating Activa. I have discontinued eating and pain has gone away.
Going back yo Yoplait yogurt
I never really understood the Activia craze... doesn't ALL yogurt have good bacteria & cultures in it? It's always semed like such a marketing ploy [& a good one, at that]
