Let's get active Pittsburghers! Post something!
Come on guys...let's make this a group! Let's chat a little...get active!! Post something to let us know you're out there!
Hey. I am a little late posting but I just started today. I would love to chat with someone close to home. I definitely feel like I need to keep a support group since I am trying to lose a lot of weight. I am seriously overweight and have to lose over 100 lbs but am feeling optimistic this time around. What about everyone else?

I wish it was more active...I had tried alot last fall, but this is a quiet group at best. Good luck with your weight loss goals!
Ok...I am going to try this. Hopefully there are some "neighbors" out there who I am sure can relate.
I took a similar route when I quit smoking. Joined an online program, posted, posted, posted...and here I am 3 years later. Smoke free, but 30 pounds heavier, so I thought I'd try it again...this time for the food addiction.
It is really a lot like quitting smoking. You have cravings and you need to figure out how to combat them. What makes you reach for the cupcake instead of the apple? I am hopeful and confident I can make it work this time being on here.
Hard part is I am at our camp on the weekends, and have no access to the internet. However, I am thinking about getting it for my phone. Reading other posts is motivating in itself. Similar to watching The Biggest Loser every week.
Let's do it Pittsburgh! "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels..." trust me, I've been thin, and I cannot describe the difference!!
Well I suppose I should jump in here and say hi.
I moved to the south side last fall, and the number of bars and restaurants within walking distance has not been good for the diet.
But hey, I seem to have overcome that and things are going much better now. I do still have to wander out and get a gyro every now and then.
Hopefully we can get a little more action here in the Pittsburgh group!
There seem to be several wonderful trails along the rivers, and in some parks.... Who knows about some.... It's a good time to get out!
I walk the trails in South Park but as it's getting colder and when it rains I'm forced to treadmill which I hate because it's inside.
I find I just have to get outside no matter what the weather - staying inside esp in winter makes me crazy.
Pittsburgh is such a beautiful place - I'm originally from San Diego and the only thing I miss is the ocean.
Welcome to new members here - calorie counting does work. I've lost 5 lbs in one month.
Hi Barbarajean!
i am in the South Hills too (or so I am told). I go to curves 3 days a week and the rest of the time I am trying to enjoy the walking track at my children's school. They get to go play on the playground and I get in a few miles.
I just started on CC on 9-14 but so far, down 13lbs and looking to hit my 1st mini goal by 10-31.
Let see if we can get this group rolling again. I would love to have someone close to home to buddy with as well!
Samantha
Samantha,
Amazing, you've lost 13 lbs - that's great. Curves is a good idea, too. Keep up the good work - you're a role model!
Barbara
Well not so sure yet about the role model but I do hope to eventually get to a point where I can show off the results!
I got my children into calorie counting and exercise too so I guess that is not a bad thing either.
Let's see if we can get this group moving again!
So i have over 100lbs to lose (heck, in the grand scheme of things, i have over 200 lbs to lose, but i'm taking it one goal at a time!!). I lost 12 lbs in the past week and, while im excited for ANY progress, I have that snarky little voice in the back of my head telling me "that was just water weight, thats why you lost it so fast, its not going to be this easy much longer". BLAH!
I've been at this point many MANY times over the years. This time i'm meeting weekly with a dietician and committing to posting in the groups as a means of support as well as accountability. I told my dietician on Monday that the worst part is that, so far, this is EASY! I'm limiting to 1700cals a day and it's hard to even eat that many..so why haven't i been able to stick with this in the past? I haven't begun an exercise routine yet, as my first goal was to drop enough to even be able to be active without my back killing me. I was hoping to start small with walking around the block next week but this WEATHER STINKS!
Welcome Cmokee!!
it sounds like you are starting out right, and who cares if that 1st 12lbs is water weight, it's still 12lbs gone!!! You don't want it to come off that fast (well I know we do but...) because it's not healthy and its more likely to come back on.
I keep having to remind myself this is not a diet....this is a change of life for me and how I do things. It's NOT temporary. And like you, I too have been at this point over the years and for one excuse or another, I stopped, only to maintain for a bit and then gain it all right back.
You know what...it's time to win the WAR and stop abusing our bodies wtih the battles.
You can do it and yeah the weather here sucks (i will be forced tonight to take to the treadmill inside) but go to the mall and walk around....at least get yourself moving.
Looking forward to hearing more from you and your successes along the way!!!!
My wife and I have been doing a lot of trail hiking on weekends. There are lots of places to hike within a short driving distance as well as in and around the city.
I think it's helped me greatly with my weight loss (20 lbs so far), and plus it's just great getting out in nature. I have terrific book called "60 Hikes within 60 Miles of Pittsburgh" by Donna Ruff that has lots of great hikes near the city. I recommend it to anyone looking for a little pleasant exercise.
We also did some hiking in the Poconos a few weeks ago. Pennsylvania is a great state for hiking.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
