Being Active= weight gain?
I joined the gym 2 weeks ago and have been a total of 11 times. I go for an hour Monday-Friday and mix it up between interval training on the treadmill, bike riding and the elliptical. I work pretty hard and burn about 500 calories.
The week before i joined the gym, i started on my healthy eating program and lost 2lbs in the first 12 days by doing maybe 30min walking around the block 3 days and by eating 1400cal (my daily burn is 1900 when i walk). But ever since i joined the gym, i have gained weight.
The past 10 days, i was only eating about 1200-1300 calories (and burning 1200) (gained 0.2) so i have upped my calories (as suggested by people on here) for the past 4 days to 1600 so i have a deficit of 700 each day but in these four days, i gained 0.6lbs. I am presuming this is because i am just eating more and my body has to adjust.
But my question is, how long before i start to see a change in either the scale or my measurement and how long before my body adjusts to having more calories? Its just that i am loving the gym and working really hard and i am getting disheartened when i am gaining weight.
Plus, i only bothered to measure my thighs when i started eating healthy, in the first week i lost just under half an inch (no gym) and from then, i have lost zilch. So obviously i am not gaining any type of muscle because my measurement would have gone down.
I know i am not cheating either. Here is what a typical 1600cal day looks like:
Breakfast: 1 serving of all bran, 1/2 banana, 1/3cup skim milk, 1- 70cal yoghurt
Snack: Granny Smith Apple, 70cal plain almonds
Lunch: wholemeal salad wrap with tuna in springwater, piece of fruit
Snack: Banana with 1tbsp pb
Dinner: piece of lean fish, lots of veggies, either a serve of brown rice or potato
Snack: 70cal yoghurt, carrot, 50cal almonds, soy and linseed crackers (50cal)
Water: 4-6 glasses
Soft Drink and Cordial= None
Once or twice a week i will replace my nightly snack with maybe 100cal no sugar added, no carb dark chocolate (it actually taste better than the regular dark chocolate).
If you have been in the same situation or have any suggestions, please share ![]()
Plus, after the first week i noticed my clothes a little loser but since then they have stayed the same :(
0.6lbs isn't really a significant change and 4 days is too soon to judge anything. Give it a good couple of weeks before you assess how it's going.
Interval training is what really knocks the weight off. You should be doing cardio at least 5 days a week for 30 to 45 min with one slow, long day to change it up. Also hit the weights, high repetition(4 sets/ 15,12,10,10) with very min rest in between(45 to 60 sec). It really gets your heart beating and burns the calories like crazy. You don't have to do heavy weight just enough to where you can barley finish the last rep. Also I agree with gi-jane your not going to see the results you want in 4 days. Stick to it and keep motivated it will come, trust me I'm finally getting my lazy @$$ back at it. Good Luck.
I used to be mystified by how many people actually gained weight once they started excercising...my sister's advice to me when that happened was to tell me to stop weight lifting! bad bad advice....
I think you need to give it time and don't get obsessed with the scale...see how you feel, how your clothes fit, and stick to it, and keep up the good work--this is a life long change, not a "I need to fit into a dress by this Sunday.." deal!
It took me about three months before I noticed any change in measurements from my workouts--my weight has been the same for two years, but I have gone from a size 16/18 to a size 8/10.
Good luck!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
