Does Activia Work??
I googled it and came across an old cc thread about ACtivia. It seems a lot of people have experienced problems that they connected with the yogurt, but I'm wondering if live cultures can really cause such severe intestinal problems. I eat yogurt on a regular basis and I have no problems with dairy or sugar alcohols, and after eating the yogurt have not experienced any immediate negative reactions, so I'm not too worried about it causing any problems for me. But if it doesn't do any good I'd rather just stick with my light and fit or yoplait yogurts.
Mostly I'm just wondering if there's anyone whose eaten it for the recommended length of time and had SUCCESS, as in helping with bloating and irregularities. If so, please share!
Hello,
I eat activia every morning and I actually buy the vanilla light container and add my own fruit. It seems to have worked pretty well for me without any nasty side effects lol. Mostly has improved regularity for me although I can probably somewhat contribute that to just eating better overall and avoiding fatty and fried foods. Anyways, I think it is worth giving a try and I know the little flavored ones have 70 calories each in the light version and are fat free. Hope this helps. Oh ya and one more thing I do is add some regular Fiber One cereal into it. Helps me get a little more fiber and consistency.
The live cultures in yoghurt are very good for your insides... Activia is just regular yoghurt made with a particular mix of bacteria (the culture) that they think is particularly beneficial. The jury's out about whether it's any better than eating standard yoghurt, but it certainly can't hurt unless you're severely lactose-intolerant.
Haha, i just watched the video. funny stuff. ANywayyy...
I had constipation problems too.. not diarrhea but i was lucky if i paid a visit to the toilet once a week. yeah it was horrible, i felt bloated.. and heavy and just ughh.. I also eat a lot of veggies and grains. I made sure i had plenty of fiber and drank lots of water but nothing really worked.
And then i started eating my sisters activia for like 2-3 days and let me tell ya, yes it works! a little too well if youd ask me. so now i eat it like every 2-3 days.
i actually used the vanilla flavored one as a starter to make homemade yogurt using 1% milk so its a lot cheaper and lower in sugar than the actual thing.
lena123, If you were going to have a bad experience, you would definitely know by now. Some people can't handle concentrated bursts of probiotics such as Activia, acidophilus capsules, and other active supplements/foods. Reactions vary. It's severe cramping and D for me (other yogurts are no problem), but it looks like you're in the clear! I hope it helps you to regulate things...
passion_tea, I love the homemade yogurt idea, thanks!
Side note: I heard a few months ago there was a class-action lawsuit against Dannon for making false claims in advertising about what Activia does to improve digestive health: apparently it's no better than regular yogurt. This is lunchroom gossip so I can't back it up.

For me, it works a lot better than regular yogurt. Don't get me wrong, i still love my plain "regular" yogurts but there's something in activia that definately makes you "go". haha..
