For Activity Levels Above Sedentary, do you log your workouts?

Quote  |  Reply

Most of my activity comes from workouts; I have a desk job. If I clean the house like crazy I'll log that. I have been listed as sedentary but am considering moving to "lightly active" since I work out for 30-40 minutes 4-5 days a week and for about an hour at least once a week.

So those of you who work out on a regular basis, do you log your workouts on top of a higher baseline activity, or is that supposed to take care of it?

I know they're estimates, but I also keep track of my estimated deficits so I have some data to work with if I get stuck.

Thanks!

I had kept myself set at lightly active, and did not log workouts.

Now that I'm doing new rules of lifting, I'm set at moderately active, and still don't log workouts (I'm sedentary other than my exercise).

I don't log my regular exercise.  That includes standing/walking at work and the NROLFW workouts.  If I do extra, I log that.

I had originally been at sedentary and then moved up to light but still logged my workouts. I recently moved it back to sedentary because I didn't feel like my cal deficits were accurate. This way I will just log everything I do - i.e. I just walked 1/4 mile between my work buildings and logged that.

Personally, I think it's easier (and maybe more accurate) to set it at sedentary and then just add everything that you do - dishes, walking around, shopping, working out, etc.

But that's just my 2 cents! Laughing

I set myself as light activity, which is my daily default, and only log if my activity levels are markedly above normal.

My advice would be to set your actively level at the level that is appropriate and log nothing or set it at sedentary and log exercise.  To set it a say Moderately Active and the log activity would be "double dipping" or counting some of your burned calories twice.

Thanks. I'll stick to sedentary then. Right now I'm logging all my exercise plus more than about 45 minutes of cooking or tidying that I do in a day. (e.g., last Sunday I cooked for three hours straight. You better believe I logged that mess in!). I like logging exercise because it helps me keep straight what I did when, and when to rest. :)

I set my activity at sedentary and logged my exercise......it seemed to be pretty accurate.
