Will I actually lose weight by following the Eat Meter and Burn Meter?
Asked by misterkatamari on Sep 18, 2009 in Weight Loss

The Burn Meter says that I burn 1511 calories a day.  The Eat Meter says I should eat 1500 calories a day.  How am I supposed to lose weight if am only cutting out 11 calories a day? Even in the span of a year, that would only amount to 3916 calories saved, which would mean that I could maybe lose 1 pound.

Answer

The meters are designed to give you an instant snapshot of your calorie intake and output.  The Burn Meter shows the number of calories that your body burns as the day goes on.  The number is based on your gender, age, height, weight, and activity level. It is set to the calories level that will lead you to your goal.  For instance, you (personally) need 2300 calories a day to maintain your present weight and so you will lose on 1500 calories.  The Eat Meter represents the calories you have logged at the present time.  As long as you keep your food log updated, the Eat Meter will show you how close you are to your daily calorie allowance.  When the Eat Meter starts to approach the dotted line, that's a good time to stop eating for the day.  Both meters are reset to zero at midnight.
