What to add to egg whites?
I've been eating egg whites for the past few weeks for breakfast,
sometimes i mix in some peppers/onions/mushrooms and ketchup/hot sauce... but its still all so borring and bland to me.
Any ideas?
stir in some black beans and salsa...and put it in a whole wheat tortilla with a bit of cheese...
or you can chop up meat if you'd like and make a breakfast burrito.
you can make a mcmuffin..just grab your favorite deli meat, cheese, and an english muffin. toast it and call it a wonderful morning. :)
Hey! I've done the egg white thing! It might sound weird but blueberries go well in them and it kinda makes a sweet morning treat!
oh the mcmuffin sounds so good!
do you by any chance know how many calories that would have?
How do you cook your egg whites?
F/F cheese; Spicy BBQ sauce; R/F Blue Cheese; even adding one whole egg will add to the overall flavor.
Let's face it. Egg whites really ARE boring. Making them into an omelette, adding sauted or roasted veggies and condiments can make them tasty.
I add a dash of turmeric (not too much!) to give them a yellow color so they are at least more appealing to look at.
I cook mine in the microwave, in an oiled (or sprayed) custard cup, for 30 seconds, stir and then cook a few more seconds until completely set. They puff up. If I have mushrooms or spinach or some such, I cook them separately, making sure they are not too juicy. I just mix the cooked, cooled vegetables into the whites before microwaving.
One of my favorite ways to eat them is sandwiched between two flax waffles. This makes a satisfying but low calorie breakfast.
I like making a mock french toast with fluffly whole wheat bread dipped in an egg whites and minced garlic mixture. They taste great on their own or with plain yogurt, and they are amazing as part of a sandwich
I just had some eggs (1 whole, 2 whites) scrambled with sautted mushrooms, spinach, salt, pepper and a minced clove of garlic. The garlic really helps. Ive also found that dijon mustard makes everything taste better.

well most english muffins have about 110-120 calories for a whole wheat one, plus a slice of 2% cheese that's about 60 calories, 2 egg whites is 35 calories, and a couple deli slices 30 calories...so you're looking at 250 calories or so...very filling with a cup of coffee!! yummy !!
I had one this morning - sprayed the pan with Pam, put in the egg whites, then about a couple of tablespoons full of shredded cheddar, dried onion and dried green and red sweet peppers. A little salt, of course. I eat that a lot of mornings. The dried vegetables are not as good as the fresh, but they are always there, which makes it easy.
Sounds like your omelet is just missing a little cheese. I think it makes all the difference, and you don't need much.
eta - Sometimes I use the Mexican cheese that is seasoned with Mexican seasonings (I can't remember who makes it - maybe Kraft). That is really good.
personally, i would add egg yolks
.
whole eggs are cheap and good for you. sometimes (like this morning), i'll make an omelet with one whole egg and one white, and give the extra yolk to the dog. but that's because i can't finish a two-egg omelet.
My egg white omelettes are always with spinach, lots of minced garlic, black pepper, and some of the Kraft fat-free shredded cheddar cheese, with a Thomas' 100-calorie whole grain english muffin. Sometimes I keep one of the yolks in there, but mostly for the health benefits, not flavor. With the garlic and cheese, I don't even notice a difference in tast from the yolk version and all whites.
It makes for a pretty low-cal combo - the egg whites, spinach, garlic, and pepper are all almost negligible in terms of calories, the cheese is 45 cals/oz, and, as I said, the english muffin is only 100 cals.

Taking the yolks out of eggs is like eating pancakes without maple syrup! I just can't do it!

I like the yolks too, but sometimes you really need high protein, low fat, and egg whites are perfect for that. I think whole eggs have gotten a bad rap, and experts agree.
But the original topic is what to add to egg whites, so that's what we're discussing.
I eat lots of egg whites.
One thing I like to do is add a little dijon mustard and they taste deviled. eat them on cucumber slices.
Another is to make a stir. Chop and Nuke onions and mushrooms until they soften and then saute 'til they caramelize. Stir in 4 egg whites.
Add a little of your favorite strongest cheese. Iit's good to buy stroong cheese to cook with. It takes less.
Top with salsa fresca.
Another idea, this may sound weird, but I swear its good!
Cook egg whites with tomato chunks and eat with whole wheat bread or english muffin, then put some fat free cottage cheese on top! Or, you can always slice the tomato afterward and stick it underneath the egg on the toast. Sprinkle a bunch of herbs and spices in the cottage cheese, like basil, to add flavor. yummers.
You've all made me hungry and I JUST ate lunch.
I have only tried the egg whites once at a seminar at the breakfast buffet. They taste a lot better than they look. Why is that?...
They were made with a topping of fresh spinach.
I'll try some of your recipes. Thanks a lot.
So this morning I mixed egg whites with pureed pumpkin (Libby's) and made a pumpkin pancake! I seasoned it with pumpkin pie spice & powdered stevia - it was just like the real thing, only of course... a lot healthier!! :) You can also do this with butternut squash! It's a new creation for me because I typically don't eat breakfast or pumpkin, butternut squash, etc... but since I am home recovery from surgery my mother "demands" that I eat it... so I might as well make it good! ha ha.

How did you make that? Did you microwave it or fry it up?
I take 2-3 egg whites in a bowl, add salt, pepper & chives (or whatever I feel like...onion, pepper, etc) and then I mix it all up. Then, I put it it the microwave until its cooked through (for me, usually 1:30 min). I love microwaving them; no added fat and it puffs up into this fluffy deliciousness!
