Can I add a little lemon juice to poppyseed bread to make lemon poppyseed bread?

This is the recipe for poppyseed bread that I have, which I love, but I have a request to make lemon poppyseed bread (apparently starbucks makes this stuff, I dunno). SO any I'm wondering if anybody out there that knows alot about baking could tell me if I could just throw in a little bit of lemon juice and a suggestion of how much?

3 cups all purpose flour
2 1/4 cups of sugar
3 eggs
1 1/8 cup of oil
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon butter extract
1 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoon poppy seeds
Icing:
3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon butter
1/2 teaspoon almond extract


I know its not a calorie-wise recipe... but its good!

I would use lemon zest instead of the juice. Just scrape the zest off of one lemon (you could use more if you like lots of lemon flavor) and add it to your batter. The zest of the fruit will give much more lemon flavor than the juice itself.

Also... if you want to find some excellent recipes for lemon poppy seed cake/bread go on foodnetwork.com and search it. :)

Ditto on the lemon zest, not juice. You'd be surprised how lemon-y a tablesoon of that can make something!!

I'd use lemon extract on top of that too. I'm sure you can make a lemon poppysead cake? With a can of cream soda and a box of lemon cake mix.

Cake:

1 box lemon cake mix
1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 can diet sprite or creme soda

Softly mix and bake as always.

 

Icing:
1 tsp. Orange extract
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 8oz container of Fat Free or Light Cool Whip

They even make butter extract if you wanna give that a go in the frosting

It would be less than 200 cals a serving i'm sure.

Then again, I just made this up in my head. :) I've done it with devils food cake and cool whip with powdered PB2 for a "recees" cake. Let cake cool before applying. And make sure the cool whip is not frozen. Mix gently.
