I was trying to come up with some new ideas last night on what to add to my plain boring yogurt to make it more exciting and tasty. I bought some fresh strawberries, chopped them up, and it was ok.

Then I thought about pured (sp?) berries. I pulled out the blender, threw in a bunch of berries, and YUM!!! it was like a runny strawberry jam, with nothing added (no sugar, preservatives, etc). Added it to my yogurt, and it was delicious!! Also added some homemade granola, and I was in heaven.

What do you like to add to your yogurt?

I like to make a smoothie by using an 8 oz container yougurt and add 8 oz skim milk and 8 oz frozen strawberries or blueberries and blend.  Sometimes i add 1/2 banana.  Makes enough for 2 smoothies and tastes like a milkshake.  When my bananas start getting ripe, I just peel and put in ziploc in freezer so I have frozen bananas whenever I want a smoothie.
My favorite things are: sliced apple w/cinnamon, grapes, mandarin oranges, blueberries, and fiber one cereal.

apple and cinnamon... never thought of that in my yogurt before.... sounds good, and I am always looking for new ways to eat cinnamon... yum

When I eat Fage plain I add wheat germ and maple syrup.  I add vanilla syrup to my plain kefir.

You're in Calgary, right? At the Calgary Farmer's Market, there's a stand that sells all kinds of flavoured honey. I find adding honey to plain yogurt makes it taste great!

I also like to add almonds, wheat germ or Kellogg's All Bran buds. And of course, fruit: mango, cantelopue, grapes, banana, strawberries, blueberries... anything!

love the farmers market... very excited that the summer is coming, and all the fresh local produce will be in full bloom!!

I am trying to avoid adding any 'sugars' to my yogurt and learn to appreciate it with just fruits and healthy granolas. Thanks for the suggestion though

I hear ya. I'm new to plain yogurt. It's way different from flavoured and takes some getting used to!
I'm also a fan of the classic greek yoghurt with honey and chopped nuts.  Heaven on a stick...

My other favourite is to slice a banana onto wholegrain toast, sprinkle on some cinammon, pop it all under the grill until heated through and then dollop on some plain yoghurt.
Yogurt, avocado and cottage cheese. A great lunch.

chopped oats, bananas, raisins.  so hungry right now...!

Granola, unsalted nuts, PB, peaches (when in season).

This week it's been half a cup of unsweetened low fat yogurt, plus a teaspoon of huckleberry jam, plus 5 or 6 cut up fresh strawberries.  I've also been using 1/8 cup of Cherry Garcia ice cream instead of the jam for a dessert.

Next week I'll be out of Cherry Garcia and strawberries and it will be on to something else. ...maybe back to yogurt & applesauce & a few black walnut pieces....
I actually like to crush up some flavored coffee beans and add them in..it makes it really yummy!  Right now I have a blend of french vanilla, hazelnut, and vanilla nut creme.

I also add them into my protein shakes for a yummy vanilla bean type shake =P

I plan on combining some different ones next time!

I also like chopped up apples and some sf maple syrup.

I always add oatmeal or fiber cereal! yummers.

frozen grapes

  • Almonds
  • Vanilla extract (PURE vanilla, no sugar)
  • Pureed blackberries or raspberries
  • Granola
  • Vanilla whey powder
  • Pomegrante juice
I use Oikos Greek yogurt. It's nonfat and is not as "sour creamy" like Fage.

I really enjoy the tanginess of chopped up oranges in my plain yogurt (or orange juice concentrate!)

I love making "yogurt bowls" and having it for breakfast (like today!)

1c. Fage FF greek yogurt + Danon lightnfit either blueberry or rasberry yogurt + 1c. nuked frozen mixed berries + a bag of southbeach diet mixed granola clusters

soooo sweet&sour but extremely filling. I love it!

But yea, I'm really on a frozen fruit sort of thing. Buut I like to microwave the fruit so that the juices come off and is hot but yet the fruit is still cold then adding it to yogurt. Its soooo good!

Mish,

That sounds fabulous.  But if you substitute Fiber One for the granola, you would really cut the fat AND add a ton of fiber.  And that would be one very healthy and nutritious treat!

Tammy

I like adding 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, berries, and walnuts for a nutritious balance.
