Addicted to 80 calories Mocha :(:( !!! HELP

Quote  |  Reply

Hello Everyone,

I am really addicted to my Mocha drink every morning ! I Cant get through my day unless I get either a cappuccino or a Mocha mug. It says on the mocha packet that it contains 79 calories...25 is from fat ... Is it way too much to take in when am on a 1200 diet? Taking into consideration that iam still within my calorie range?? or is it way too much with the fat it contain? If so, what could be the alternative? :(

If you stay within your calorie range it doesn't matter where the calories come from, as far as losing weight. 79 calories really isn't that much. Sure, you could use them on something with more nutrients, but if it makes you happy and it's your little treat for the day I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm surprised no one has made this comment yet.

1200 calories isn't enough; you need to eat more - 1200 is the bare minimum to keep your organs functioning.

And I wouldn't worry about an 80 calorie drink; factor it into your daily calories (which again, need to be higher) and it won't be a problem.  Also, whether it's 25 calories from fat or all 80 calories from fat, it doesn't matter - 'fat' in your food doesn't make you gain weight, it's excessive eating/being sedentary that causes weight gain.

Please research further to find out what the appropriate calorie amount is for you, because your current range could work against what you're aiming for, and could make you ill.

Thanx for the repllies :)

Well i have used the calorie counting tool on this website and it recommended a 1200 daily calories to lose 1 pounds per week, even though this results is pretty boring for me but am trying to do my best. Could i please use your help in counting the calories in this daily eating routine?

Breakfast:

One slice whole wheat toast + 1 boiled egg OR  one bowl of low fat cereals with skimmed milk + One Mug of cappuccino or Mocha

Lunch:

1/2 grilled chicken + boiled vegetables OR some pasta with no fat at all used in cooking with vegetables OR grilled meat + salad ..

Dinner:

1 low fat yoghurt + 1 banana .. I dont know what to snack on really :S:S

And i do one cheating day once per week ... is it a 1200 calorie diet? :S:S I tried using the food browser on this site but it is confusing... :S

I bought the Splenda flavors for coffee today in Mocha to try out at work, it doesn't have calories so maybe it will work for you.

I usually try the Iced Coffee at Starbucks with nonfat milk and Splenda...17cals for a grande size.

A nonfat Splenda Misto is about 80cals in a grande and I add it in about once a week.

I love mocha’s and have one at least once a day! Although my brand is slightly higher at 90 calories per mug, it’s still a heck of a lot cheaper and less calorific than most, if not all, coffee shop mocha’s.

NICE :D:D Cuz i just had my 2nd cup (but i usually consume 1) lool ! ... Wud it be possible to lose 1 kilo in 10 days with my routine?? :S i really wanna shed off those 4 kilos fast

Check these sites for your target goals (and re-check every 10-15 lbs lost):

Good luck on your journey for lifestyle change.

womens nutrition site is very generous it suggests to lose weight without exercise i should eat 1429 cals each day and to maintain 1929, 5ft 4 127lbs. I was sure without exercise i would maintain closer to 1750

First off, you are dangerously undereating. What you said you ate in one day was not even close to 1200 calories - and a yoghurt + banana is not nearly enough for dinner. Use the calorie counter on CC to keep track of how many calories you're eating - it looks like you have been overestimating.

I see you recently posted the following stats:

Height: 170 cm

Weight: 84 Kg

Goal Weight: 75 kg

Age: 19

Cal intake: 1100-1200.

When I input your stats into the CC burn meter, it estimated you burned 1990 calories totally sedentary, or 2280 lightly active. I also saw from other posts that you are exercising daily, which means you would require more energy. I would suggest you have hit a plateau because your metabolism has slowed down from undereating. To rev up your metabolism again so that you can actually lose weight, you need to be eating around 1700 calories daily, to create a daily deficit of 500 calories. Eating this amount will also mean it is more sustainable for you to keep up with and less likely that you will put the weight straight back on when you can't carry on with your current very low intake diet.

To answer your original question, having a daily mocha drink is fine. 80 calories is not much and nor is 25 calories from fat. A gram of fat has 9 calories, so you are consuming less than 3 grams of fat. I think you need to remember that it is excess calories that make you fat, not eating fat. You need some fat in your diet to be healthy. I have lost weight eating cheese, chocolate, whole milk, eggs, nuts, seeds, oils etc - because it is calories in vs calories out that counts. Fat also keeps you fuller for longer.

Using the calculators at:  http://www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_cal culator.htm I estimated that you need around 47g fat per day if you were getting 25% of your calories from fat (which is a normal, reasonable amount). While this may not mean a whole lot to you it does show that the 3g of fat in your mocha is really nothing to worry about, and in fact you actually need more fat in your diet than you are currently getting.

You are starving yourself, and not even reaching 1200 calories. you have basically no fat in your diet and only 1 serving of grains, fruits, and dairy [depending on which breakfast you choose] you should definitely be eating more!!! the fat in the mocha is only roughly 3g so that is NOTHING!! i would make it with milk though and add something more substantial to ALL of your meals!! have pasta at lunch along with the meat and salad, have trail mix/granola/peanut butter and jelly sandwich or something else with "dinner" . how much weight do you have to lose?

Over all i need to lose 7 kilos ... But for the mean time, am aiming to lose 4 kilos to regain half of my confidence :( , and iam aiming to lose 1 kilo per week to keep myself motivated and i managed to lose a kilo per week for a long time, however this stopped happening for some reason.

I have heard that eating pasta with meat or in other words combining carbohydrates with proteins actually makes you gain weight or maintain it :S therefore i usually eat the proteins along with vegetabels instead of carbs. Is this true? (that's what my nutritionist used to tell me)

I always allowed myself one treat per day in the evening before I went to bed (and still do, even though I'm up to 1700 a day for maintainance) i'd have a low calorie ovaltine/horlix and a very small slice of cake/weight watchers cookies. If i'd been good for the whole day then why not? As long as I was still in target and hadn't eaten anything else high in fat during the day.

1 kilo per week = 2.2lbs per week, which is actually a really high amount of weight loss to be able to sustain. CC usually reccommends that a safe rate of weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. I think you may be aiming a little ambitiously with your weight loss. After all, you didn't put weight on overnight so it will also take time to come off.

Food combining is a myth. In other words, you can eat fat, protein and carbohydrates in any combination. So long as a) your calories in are less than the calories you burn each day, and b) you're eating enough, you'll lose weight. Of course it is still good to get a good balance of nutrients and lots of good nutrition, but there is no logic to not combining certain food groups. For example, many proteins contain fat; many vegetarian proteins (lentils, beans, chickpeas, split peas) are a mix of protein and carbohydrates; vegetables are non-starchy carbohydrates anyway so eating your protein with veges wouldn't work.

For your nutritionist's theory to work you would also have to wait until your stomach had completely emptied of food before eating again. For some reason, a lot of nutritionists seem to have picked up on a lot of diet myths, so don't take everything they say at face value.

Trust me I used to think I was addicted also but it's all mental. If you think you are addicted then you are, if not then vice versa. You just have to develop a strong mind and strong will but it's only 80 calories so I don't see the big deal :)
