OK, I know this sounds absurd, but I think I am addicted to cereal (and possibly apples too haha).  I ALWAYS want cereal, literally for every meal. Sometimes I feel like I'm forcing down other foods, especially those high in protein.  Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Because cereal is comforting and delicious. :D

I've turned down pumpkin pie to eat a nice, big, comforting bowl of cereal :)

I love my carbs, their great for seretonin production.

i wish all that i had to eat was cereal... but since all the other food groups have to be selfish, i only eat it for breakfast. but i have like 3 apples a day cuz i love those too!

What kind of cereal are you eating?  The sweeter ones probably have corn syrup in them, which I know for me is a major appetite stimulator.

omg, I thought I was the only one who had this, er, problem(?)  My Achilles heel is Grapenuts, which I guess is good a thing. I think my issue is that I just went vegetarian, so this is one of the few things that keeps me full for an extended amount of time.

It's not even about the sugar. I eat the PLAINEST cereals out there and I still can't get enough. I think its something about that big bowl and spoon and milk... mm just thinking about it I get excited!!! Today I did pretty good (only 2 small bowls for breakfast) but sometimes I can have it for breakfast and lunch and even post-dinner. I think I'm addicted!!! Surprised

*scratches head*  Well, milk and cereal makes a complete protein....maybe you're craving both carbs and protein?  Though to tell the truth, it's hard for me to stick to the recommended serving on cereals myself, so I don't touch it, period.  Oatmeal for me...bleah.

Kashi Cinnamon Raisin Crunch!  Yummy!  Tons of raisins!

I love cereal too.  I eat it for breakfast and usually at some point in the afternoon or evening as a snack.

I eat a mix of Kashi GoLean Crunch!  and Kashi 7-Grain together, with a few walnuts or almonds thrown in.  YUM!

I believe Kashi GoLean Crunch! has soy protein in it, but I'd have to look at the label again.

Although I'm not a nutritionist, I think eating cereal @ every meal shouldn't be a problem as long as you're eating one with protein and lots of fiber.  Maybe even add some Morningstar or Boca sausage (vegetarian) for more protein.  Cereal is fast, easy and absolutely good for you.  I keep no less than 8 open boxes in my cupboard to provide lots of variety for my family.  They don't love it as much as I do but I wish they did :)    ENJOY!

I eat cereal almost everyday as my dessert after dinner! I used to eat a huge bowl until I saw how many calories I was consuming...pre CC of course:)! The way I trained myself to limit the portion is to use a small coffee mug instead of a bowl. I only eat a half cup of cereal (usally fiber one) and half cup of 1% milk. That usually satisfies me, but if i just have to have another 1/2 cup that only adds up to one full serving which is either only 130 or 260 cals!

is anyone else able to down like 5 bowls of cereal in one sitting? i am not exaggerating, i could easilly put away an entire box... whats with that?

cmrrdn, don't be sad, you aren't the only one who can down an entire box of cereal. I've done it a ton of times. I did it once with those jumbo boxes of All Bran & Raisins.

Yes I love cereal too! I used to eat like 3 bowls at the end of everyday..ugh it wasn't a good habit. I ate it even if I wasn't still hungry, it was just so yummy I couldn't stop! lol But now I hardly ever eat it because if I start I don't wanna stop!

It was actually giving me stomache aches to eat so much food at once so that's why I stopped..

Once I started paying attention to calories I kind of shunned cereal. To me there was nothing gratifying about eating 1/4 cup of cereal. It was all about a big bowl of cereal and milk.

Then I discovered puffed millet. It's 50 calories for 1 cup, but I found if you weigh it in grams it's a little over a cup. 1/2 cup almond breeze = HUGE 70 calorie bowl of cereal. I add stevia/spenda/whatever & if I'm feeling coocoo, I'll add cocoa powder for some cocoa crispy action.

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with eating what you want to. I always go through phases of foods. You can always add hempnuts to your cereal to add protein.

freshbaked, I think you just changed my life

Those cereals that come in a box with commercial names (which is what I supose you're eating) aren't that healthy as they wanna make us believe. They have been severely manipulated and most of the "good stuff" that the cereal contained dissapear. Furthermore, because they are so processed, the body needs a lot of vitamins and work to digest them, and that is why most cereal come with added vitamins, which we all know are not as good as the natural ones.

Also, a lot of cereal sell themselves as healthy and full of dietary fiber, like for example the Special-K cereals (I do not know if you have them in the States or UK), but they are actually not. Most of them contain only 3 or 4 grams of fiber per 100grams, which is nearly nothing when it come to a normal ration of 30grams.

Hope this helps you get over your addiction!

When i was undereating, all i would ever think about was cereal! It must have been because i needed the carbs. But now that i eat healthier and more balanced, it's not an obsession anymore like it used to be.

I'm pretty sure Kashi Go Lean Crunch's secret ingredient is crack.  I absolutely, positively MUST measure or I'll eat the whole box every time.

On the subject of apples, Honeycrisps rule!

OMG honeycrisps DO rule--but don't forget our good friends granny smith, gala, empire, golden delicious, macouns, macintosh, and hell-even red delicious!!!

So I have been reading all of these responses, thank you guys SO much. I have come to a few conclusions.

A) I think I crave the quick energy spurt in carbs (aka apples and cereal: simple carbs) because I lead a really hectic life being in med school, running, and attempting to have a life outside of that

B) I LOVE the puffed millet/wheat trick. I can't fully give up cereal, btu for the past couple weeks I have been doing 1 cup of puffed millet and 1 serving of another cereal (like heritage flakes, puffins, kashi golean etc) and 1 cup of milk. it's a HUGE bowl and if I eat it slow, I'm very satisfied in the AM.

C) I am going to try and get more protein in my diet. i think I am hungry alot becuase I just eat simple carbs that are digested like within an hour and then I am hungry again.

D) Ijust love cereal! Plain and simple! I will never give it up and YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!!! :)

Thanks CC community-you guys ROCK
