Addicted to Nutella!

Quote  |  Reply

I bought my first jar of Nutella to try it out.  It's very similar to peanut butter in terms of calories, so I thought: cool, a healthy snack with a bit of chocolate flavor.  Yummy.   So I scooped some out onto a pretzel, and I couldn't stop eating.  I ate the whole jar in 4 nights!!!  Yikes.  Anyone else have this problem?

Any advice on how to enjoy without overdoing it?

HHAHAHAHAHA! wHO IS NOT ADDICTED TO NUTELLA u must ask:P

I used to eat 1 big jar in 4 days as well!Especially during exam period at uni! It was times that during the day i was eating only nutella!:P Well after i put on weight( during summer due to lack of exercise and cr'epes:P) I stoped eating and i maybe have once a month a bit on my bread! Because otherwise, i am so addicted to it that if i taste it i will want to eat the whole thing!:P

Even though i have in the house because my fiancee eats it( he can it anything he wants without putting weight on) I just try to ignore it and say I Must Not eat nutella becuase it has a lot sugar in it, and sugar can cause problems to your health and also sugar makes you have cravings afterwards and then you eat more sugar an dyou get fat and ungly with wrinkles because sugar makes you look older if its in high concentrations etc blah blah blah

SO i dont eat it!:P

Yeah, it's a little too easy to forget portion size on nutella.  Hazelnuts and chocolate, what more do you need?  I just only buy it once in a while, b/c it's not something I can keep in the house on a daily basis.

I LOVE Nutella too....every year in the spring and summer I go to Italy where I consume quite a bit of Nutella and then when I come home to the US I am always still craving it so buy a jar....I bought a jar last week, but it's still about half full....it is easier to eat it in Italy since they also sell it in individual packets, so calorie control!

what I do here in the US is measure the serving out (1 or two 2tbsp) and eat it on a low calorie cracker (5 saltines for 60 so I save there too)...you can also eat it on a croissant for breakfast yummm.....they also sell a preportioned version here with mini breadstick things for a total of 200 cals with the nutella

Mmm...I forgot about Nutella. Now I really want some. Reminds me of my childhood, Oma used to put it on her homemade german sourdough bread, so so good.

I LOVE NUTELLA! i used to bring it in for lunch every day growing up... to which i got very rude comments @ school b/c no one knew what it was lol

There is no controlling nuttella, stop buying it lol

It tastes so good directly out of the jar if you put in the fridge it gets a little firmer better on a spoon that way :P

My DH loves the stuff so we always have it up top in his stash cupboard whenever I make him some bread with it I find myself licking it right off the knife

I had never tried Nutella until I moved to Australia.  Now it's one of my favorite indulgences!  I really only eat Nutella on toast in the morning for breakfast and then put it back at the back of the highest shelf in the pantry.  Otherwise, I will eat way too much of it.  (I lick it off of the knife too but only because it doesn't rinse off very easily.)

I love Nutella too! I have it on top of yogurt with sliced fruit (and some other accoutrements) or on top of oat bran with sliced bananas. It melts all over the whole bowl so you don't really need that much.

Also, something that's really awesome: If you scoop a tablespoon of nutella onto wax paper or a plate, and put it in the fridge or freezer for a few hours, it turns into fudge. I swear - it freezes totally solid. It's great. Plus, it gets really rich when solidified like that so you really only need just that one bit to be satisfied.

personally i think there is no NOT overdoing it with nutella its just ones of those foods you cant get enough of...but how ever if you have strong will power you can enjoy it from time to time like for instance putting a dollop of it over fresh fruits, ice cream, oatmeal etc. i use to always love spreading a bit(a little goes a long way) of it on wholegrain lebanese pita and poppin it in the microwave for 30 secs then rollin it up and enjoying that melted sweetness! the perfect snack for chocolate craving instead of a chocolate bar thats too overloaded with sugar.

As a kid I used to adore nutella! And bi-coloured chocolate spreads, I would only eat the white, leaving an ugly brown mess behind. They also used to have snickers spreads, which were chocolate spread, peanut butter and caramel, all in one jar - it was HEAVENLY.

I don`t really eat it anymore, though, I find it way too sweet and oily for my liking. And to the OP: this is not a very healthy snack at all. Peanut butter or honey would be much more nutritious replacements. But if you want to enjoy without overdoing, you can spread a thin coating of it on something very consistent, such as a slice of whole grain bread, or a banana. A teaspoon in your oatmeal would also do the trick.

Having a similar calorie content to peanut butter doesn't mean it's at all healthy for you. It's essentially chocolate spread. That said, I think peanut butter's nasty and I love Nutella... I'm just not advocating it's health benefits.

Agreed.  "Healthy snack" is a poor choice of words.  Should have said "similar in nutritional values."

This thread is hilarious. I hope you weren't thinking to warn us off the stuff. Now I'm craving it more than ever.

I simply can't have it in the house. I can INVENT new foods to add it to everyday.

If you have to buy it, try the smallest size jar, make snacks for the office/church/school, so you are left with a reasonable amount to enjoy over the next few weeks.

My big thing is Moose Munch Caramel Popcorn. The wife declared it a Christmas Season Only food.

Oh my. My favorite way to eat Nutella is by the spoonful. I did eat 2 jars in one week...last night, tho', I held it to one spoon. Still, it's so good. I hope I can learn portion control...

Nutella... healthy? Oh LOL! Why not just buy hazelnuts on their own and drink some milk? Wayyy easier to portion control.

Literally. Don't buy the stuff again. I know just how easy it is to eat an entire jar in one day. Just think about all those calories... Is it worth it...?

The answer is NO.

my hope for you is that nutella is not the last food you have that is so yummy you're tempted to eat it all. so learning the art of portion-control is helpful, not just for the nutella, but for any yummy food that can easily be too much of a good thing. there is room in a healthy lifestyle for treats like nutella, even if it's not chock-full of vitamins.

i suggest pre-portioning the nutella when you buy it.  decide how many weeks you'd like one jar to last you and then divide the nutella into separate containers for each week.  place the other containers out of sight so that you're not constantly tempted to go back for more.  if you eat all of your nutella for the week early, the consequence is that you have to wait longer before you can have more.

alternatively, you could go the rest of your life without eating treats that aren't 100% nutritious.

i simply love Nutella. It has probably been on our supermarket shelves for years, but it took a vacation to Italy to get introduced to the devil of spreadablity. On croissants, sandwiches, melted and flash froze on strawberries... nothing but a nutellagasm!

Go through more bottles of that than every did with peanut butter. I am sorry peanut butter. Very sorry. You have been replaced.

I had never had it before I moved to Italy.

Here they have an amazing nutella gelato flavor. Also they have zeppolini with gelato inside. Its like fried dough balls with nutella inside. To die for.

We just recently bought a jar of it for the first time. I can safely say its still in tact. I'll wait for the Italians to make stuff for me to eat with it. Although a nutella and PB sandwich for desert later sounds quite tempting....Lol.

Just this morning my mom made crescent rolls baked with a little nutella in them.

Mmm nutella, that brings back memories of when I was a kid. I used to eat it with a spoon from a jar. :)

A way to kind of get the same taste as nutella while indulging in a "safer" manner is to eat ferrero rocher chocolate hazelnut balls.  It's a chocolate ball with hazelnuts, a crispy layer, and nutella filling.  1 piece has 73 calories and 1 gm protein.  It's individually wrapped, so it's hard to overindulge.  You can buy them at like cvs or giant, or most places really.
