An addiction I'm willing to fuel

Quote  |  Reply

I have recently become addicted to McDonald's Cinnamon rolls and I have no intention of giving them up.  They are just too good.  But I'm not unreasonable.  I know that I shouldn't eat them all day everyday (even though I probably could for at least a week).  This is not an all-time treat.  I can save calories for it everyday but these things aren't really good for you.  So my question is, how often should I treat my self to the deliciousness?  Thrice a week?  Once a week?  Once a month?  How often can I have such a fatty treat with absolutely no nutrition without falling back on my weightloss progress?  Or is this just one of those things that can never be answered?

The downside of things like cinnamon rolls isn't the fat or the sugar particularly.  It's that you're using up precious calories on something that's actually going to make you feel hungrier than you might be if you'd used them on something less sugary and fatty etc.  So how often you eat them rather depends on how often you want to get to the end of the day feeling like you could use more food :-)

You could probably get away with eating them once or twice a week but I wouldn't do it more than that.  Make sure you are very careful about your nutrition if you plan on spending a big chunk of calories on that stuff.  Eat your veggies and protein!!!

Once a week, like "Monday is MickeyD day" or something like that.  We don't do Taco Bell every single week but we kind of have the same thing, there will be one day for Taco Bell.

If it satisfies you to the point you don't think you'll eat/binge afterwards, that's great.  IF you tend to have sugar crashes or binge after eating junk, then plan to eat it at the end of the day before bed for dessert.

I agree that once a week seems like a good amount. That way you won't feel deprived and it'll give you a treat to look forward to. :-)

You all are going to laugh.  We can pretty much scratch this question.  I got a cinnamon roll for my mother and I (that's 2 total) and I ate mine.  Delicious.  I didn't actaully ask mom if she wanted one (she usually gets one for herself so I thought I'd do her the favor of getting one for her).  turns out she didn't want it, though she appreciated the thought.  Well a second cinnamon roll wouldn't hurt now would it?  Wrong.  I ate the second one and now I can't stand the sight of cinnamon rolls.  Ugh.  So I've Binged and I feel awful.  No my stomach isn't turning.  I just over dosed.  Sooooo...thanks all.  :)

At least you can control it. I have been on a carb binge for 3 days now. I am sick and bloated and utterly disgusted.

i try to follow a rule where i have no more than 1 serving a day of junky food (like cinnamon rolls... i have an extensive list of the purely sugary/salty things that i'm prone to binging on heh.) and i try to eat junky stuff no more than 3 times a week...

I mean, it's pretty tough to deprive yourself totally, and the way i rationalize it, is that i can eat about 2000cals/day for maintenance. 1300 is the minimum i can go, in order to get my essential nutrients for the day... so supposing that i eat right for the 1300calories, and throw in another 300cal allowance just in case, it means that i have 400calories for just about anything i want to eat. That's about 1.5 chocolate bars, muffin, cake, or whatever appeals. don't bash yourself up just cause you ate too much junk! food is meant to be savored! (:

If I have little treats like these I make myself work for them. I will only treat myself if I have put in a good work out. Stuff like that. Then after a while of doing that I realized it would waste my hard work to burn the calories just to enjoy some 'bad' treat. so I started treating myself to healthier things because in my mind I could no longer justify the wasted calories. It kind of made the 'treat' seem less appealing and so less tasty and I no longer craved it.

I have given up vices I always said I could never give up and now it's no big deal. But of course after giving up smoking after almost 8 years I think I could give up anything.

I was always under the impression that everyone who is thin could eat anything she wanted to without worrying about it, while I was burdened with a slow metabolism and a giant sweet tooth. It has taken a looooong time for me to realize that the majority of people who aren't overweight make daily choices and decisions to maintain their weight.

I just read about a woman who makes beautiful, delicious cupcakes. The interviewer asked her how often she actually *eats* one. She said "About once every two weeks."

If she can be around cupcakes all the time and only eat one twice a month, I can do the same for my treats -- once I get to my goal weight. I am off caloric treats for now. Iced coffee with Splenda, anyone?

NOW....  I bet when she started, she ate a lot of cupcakes.  I've worked in the restaurant industry.  You hire someone new and since the food is free, they quickly plow their way through the menu.  Stuff they like, they might get two or three of a day until they burn.  Then it's "Blech!  I'm bored.  I don't want that."

I eat ice cream every Saturday!  I buy a pint of Edy's 1/3 less fat and I eat as much as I can on Saturday.  If there is any left on Sunday I throw it away....which usually isn't much between me and my daughter!  It's our weekend treat....sometimes we make brownies to go with it and that is our actual dinner!  I'm still waiting to get the "yuck I ate too much and never want it again" feeling, but it just isn't happening!  Good thing I run 9 miles on Saturday morning! :-D

I do a Friday cheat dinner once a week. Right now I am hooked on a chicken grinder, spudniks which are fried potatoes with cheese and after a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie. I LOVE FRIDAY Laughing I have been doing this for a few months and have not gained any weight but I eat very clean during the week and even the rest of Friday. I also workout 6 days a week and lift 3 days so it helps to keep the weight off. I would go crazy without this cheat dinner though.

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
