I have trouble getting enough calories throughout the day, I snack in between meals but I still can't seem to get above 1000 calories unless I eat all day. I want to lose weight, but I don't want to do it unhealthyly.
Does anyone have any suggestions of calorie rich, healthy, foods I could add to my day? :)
Nuts -- particularly raw almonds, walnuts, pistachios.... peanut butter
Yes, add nuts, especially almonds. They give about 160 Cals for only a handfull and are still good for you. If you like salads, add avocado (almonds are also delicious on salads). I think one avocado is about 230 cals and filled with good nutrients. Add an extra banana in the morning, an extra apple for lunch. There are a bunch of options out there, you just have to research them. But definitely, get at least 1200 cals a day.
I'm a little confused. If you can't get yourself to eat more than 1,000 calories a day, why is it that you need to lose weight? I've never met someone who can't eat enough calories who actually needs to lose weight. Can you explain a bit more what you mean? We usually try to lose weight because we take in too many calories... sooooo.....
Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding
i think she just means she wants to lose it in a healthier way gennysaurus =]
I understand that, I can read that in her original post, but someone who has trouble eating even 1200 calories a day more than likely does not have a weight problem. If you look in her profile her weight loss ticker says she is trying to lose, but that she has gained 5 lbs. It doesn't add up
Metabolism problems and binges could account for the weight gain.
We don't know when the last time she updated her ticker was either.
There's too much missing information to know for sure.
I have the same problem. I'm new here. I've always been athletic up until after the last baby. I couldn't lose that last 10 pounds. So, I figured that maybe I'm eating too much & not excerising enough. I ramp up my workouts and then I come here to count calories. I find out I average 1,000-1,100 calories a day.
I do some research & my husband does some also. We find that since most people need about 1,200 calories a day just to do day-to-day functions, my body is stockpiling the fat to keep my body going. Basically it's in "starvation" or "hibernation" mode.
So, I, too, am having to add calories, just to get over 1,200 calories, let alone my "goal" of 1,800 calories a day.

Are you for real, gennysaurus?
I have no problem at all wracking up 3000 calories a day. All I have to do is have a couple of beers, McDonalds for lunch, Sonic for dinner, ice cream for dessert.... it's a piece of cake (pardon the pun).
Eating beans, veggies, low fat meats and dairy, fruits, whole grains, etc., and trying to get up to 1300 calories while keeping fats down? Now THAT takes some work and a lot of freakin' eatin'.
Thanks to those who suggested nuts - great idea that I'll be using!
It's really not that hard to understand. I've got quite a bit of weight to lose but on a daily basis I find myself at 800-900cals at 930p and I'm not hungry... Anyone can hit their daily target by eating crap...
What type of food should not be eaten?
Calorie Count does not prescribe a particular diet or tell people to avoid particular foods. We only ask that you eat a balanced diet... Read more
