What are the advantages of exercising along with alot of gaining?
Is it safe to exercise if youre underweight whilst gaining? If so how much? And what are good exercises to do?
What will this do for me in the long term?
How can I ensure that Im not wasting muscle tissue, and gaining it instead?
So many questions, I think I need a coach... in everything lol.
Is anybody else who is very underweight and exercising whilst gaining, or is that just what everybody does?
Im looking to gain another 10lbs.
I need answers :(
Thanks!
Hi! I'm definitely no expert on this, but I personally am working on gaining a few pounds and have had to cut down drastically on my (cardio) exercise to get results. The important thing right now is getting to a healthy weight again! I figure there'll be plenty of time to exercise later.
Still, it might be a good idea to try to put on some of the weight in muscle. While gaining, you're going to really want to cut down on the cardio (which will work mostly on muscle endurance rather than growth and can really hinder your gaining) and focus on resistance/strength training maybe 3-4 times a week. Focus on anaerobic rather than aerobic! I'd check out the Beginner's Corner on the Exercise page on this site for ideas.
Hope that helped a little! Good luck! :)
im also looking to gain about 10lbs and ive recently started exercising! i suggest getting your doctor to check your b/p before starting though because when youre underweight too much exercise puts strain on the heart
ive been going to the gym 3 times a week for hour long sesions for about 3 weeks now and ive still been gaining slowly. i use resistance machines to work each part of my body seperately and do 20 mins of light cardio (like a brisk walk on the treadmill)
the way of ensuring you gain is to eat extra before and after you go (at least thats what ive been doinng!)
hope this has helped xx
As long as you don't have any medical conditions that make it unsafe for you to excercise, there should be no problem with excercising while you're trying to gain weight. In fact, I've found it makes it easier because your appetite increases and you gain muscle tissue much quicker than if you just eat a lot of food and hope to gain weight (which can be hard if you have a fast metabolism).
First thing, make sure you are eating enough food to keep up with the amount of calories you are burning, otherwise, you might lose weight instead of gaining weight. You can increase you protein intake to help build up your muscles (as they repair themselves after excercise), but make sure you are still eating a healthy amount of fats and carbs (especially since you usually use carbs as energy when you excercise). As long as you are eating enough food so that you don't create a deficit, you will definitly not lose muscle tissue (you would only lose muscle tissue if your body as to take needed calories from you muscles due to a lack of food/body fat, or if you don't use your muscles, in which case they would atrophy).
Second, try to limit your cardio, since cardio (like running or biking) burns a whole lot more calories per hour than other excercises. So focus of weight lifting and strength training which will build muscle (causing you to gain weight) and will burn less calories, so you won't have to eat as much extra food.
Personally, I work out at least 5 times a week, usually for about 90 minutes tops. I warm up for 15 mins on a treadmill or elliptical, and then do about 45 mins of weights (arms and legs) and then about 15 mins of ab and back work and stretching. Usually I burn about 350 calories, so I an make that up pretty easily if I make a high calorie smoothie or eat and extra handful of nuts.
If you aren't sure where to start, consider talking to a personal trainer who can tell you what excercises you should be doing based on your medical history and you specific goals (I did).
Hi.I'm also looking to gain weight. At least 10 to 15 more pounds. Its kinda hard since my job includes a lot of walking, lifting{i work for fedex ground}{i can lift up to about 55 to 60 pounds}And that's five days a week. Then I get up on Saturday mornings and go to wash clothes at the laundry mat.But I have started including chocolate ensure plus with my meals.I have one with my breakfast, lunch and dinner. And also at work I'm able to eat while I'm working so I make sure I'm eating food and plus snacking. My calorie intake is suppose to be 1900.On Monday I had over 2200.To tell the truth I'm wondering how much weight will I have gained by the end of the week if I keep it up.My doctor informed me that I don't have to excercise.I gets enough on my job.So I guess now I have to be patient until Friday![]()
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
