That advertisment that pops up on the right hand side about how they lost so much weight from following one simple rule is faulty. I live in IL and the person near me mentions how they lost weight. I am now on vacation and a new person in the neigborhood/city that i am visiting says the exact same thing. Even the details "im from such and such city i have a great family and a wonderful fiance". Read on and see that in college she was comfortable with her body and size two etc.
Watch your calories and put out more than you are taking in until you get to where you want to be and then adjust. Don't fall for any other "diet" even if it is coming from this or any other website.
I would also encourage you to read this. I just found it after cutting and pasting it into google.

The first paragraph of your statement makes no sense at all to me. People from different cities, great families, and something about college??? What the heck are you talking about???

I think they are pointing out that the advertisement can tell where you are located (from your computer's IP address). From that, you get a sales pitch about a person in the same area. The pitch is the same but the location of the person and other specifics are changed to match your location.
It doesn't necessarily make the seller dishonest. However, someone selling weight loss solutions that involve anything other than healthy food in appropriate quantities and a regular exercise routine should be suspect.
