Some advice for an upcoming weekend of resturant eating?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm new to this site, so I was just wondering...does anyone have any advice about how to eat healthfully at resturants?

You see, my family is going to leave this weekend to visit other family out in Ohio, and, judging from last year's trip, we will be doing a lot of eating out (pretty much exclusively).

So, what are some healthy foods to order?  I have heard that resturant wraps are not always that healthy.  So I'm just curious (we'll probably be going to places like Applebee's, if that helps)

Thank you all so much!  I'm really excited about being a part of this site!

I know personally if i know I'm going out to eat then i try to do research ahead of time- look up as much as you can on-line before you go- pick out what you will get if you can because then you won't be tempted to get something else.  If you can't do that i would stick with poultry (baked or grilled- not fried) or fish (baked or grilled and not covered in butter)... also steer clear of lots of cheese, butter, dressings, fried foods, creamy sauces, etc.... most places have vegetables (steamed hopefully- and not cooked in butter) available for a side dish- i also know that some restaurants have sections in the menu if you are trying to eat healthy- I know that applebees and chilis do... and you can always ask your waiter/waitress.... they may have some healthy suggestions.... I would say salad- but depending what is on the salad- that can be dangerous-- assuming that a salad is good for you....

#1 rule for me-- ask how things are cooked- cause you would be surprised what they cook in butter or grease.

Hope this helps :-)
Always order sauces/dressings on the side so you can control the amount. Opt for vegetable side dishes instead of fries, baked potato instead of mashed (they add lots of butter).  Skinless grilled chicken or fish are good.

As a road warrior I can tell you that Applebees is great as it has the weight watchers menu with calories, etc listed.  Also, go to www.dietfacts.com. They have tons of restaurants listed with their menu items. Each shows calories, fat, carbs, etc.

Try to remember RAW- salads with grilled meat/ fish on top is best. Buy some Quaker mini delights chocolate rice cakes for desert- they are great.

GOOD LUCK!

Yes do research before hand.  I went to the yardhouse and didn't, so I just had a garden salad (with no croutons or anything) grilled chicken on top and italian dressing on the side.  It was delicious!

try this site too  www.dietfacts.com

Oh I see tennis janice just posted the same site!
