Advice for weight gain

Quote  |  Reply

hey everyone.  i'm a 13 year old girl who just joined cc today becuase i think i might have had anorexia for a couple months.  well, i started restricting my calories a lot and lost around 15-20 pounds.  my mom finally noticed and helped me, and now i eat between 1500-2000 calories a day.  i haven't felt so good in a long time!  anyway, my mom swears i need to gain the weight back.  i'm 5'2" and weigh 85 lbs.  do i really need to gain weight?  if i do, how should i the healthy way?  what should i eat?  how many calories would i need?  i just went on vacation to my grandparents and they fed me so much, at least 2500 calories a day for a week, and i didn't gain anything, but maybe that wasn't normal.  thanks for the help and sorry the post was so long!

nuts,MILK (YOUR A GROWING GIRL, DRINK UP!) avocadoes, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, &dried fruits are definately winners in my book!

85lbs is very low, so as you gain weight your appetite may come back very strong which equals binging so make sure you get enough protein as well to satisfy you as you recover,  lean turkey, salmon, tuna, or your soy based proteins if your a vegetarian, tempeh, tofu, edemame, soy milk,

I would def. suggest gaining atleast 10-15, I am 5'1" and at one point in my life had an ED i was 110 lbs and I looked horribly sick, for my hight i should weigh 115, too skinny is not beautiful and you are so young. I agree with the person above me, and when you signed up for this site it should have told you how many cals a day you need for your hight and how much weight you need to gain. That is the great thing about this sight, you can get help losing or gaining weight depending on your hight and weight already. Keep your head up you will overcome this problem.

I agree with the others, you could gain some weight to be healthy and so you can keep growing! You don't need to make a really big effort to gain weight, just eat when you are hungry and don't "diet" anymore. Since you are so thin, you'll gain weight naturally.

If you want to gain weight faster, some healthy foods you can eat that are high in calories are nuts and oils. If you like salad, drizzle olive oil on it. Pecans, almonds, walnuts and peanuts are also healthy and calorie dense.

Welcome to CC, and good luck!

The fact that you are 13 makes me think that it would be best that you talk to a nutritionist or doctor. Your body is still growing and developing and you need certain nutrients to help maintain a healthy weight and life. I would talk to a professional first. I would also get checked out for any health issues that may have been caused by the dramatic weight loss and also check your thryoid if you cannot gain weight.
