What are you afraid of?
I am sitting here in my dorm room as a particularly nasty storm is coming closer and closer.
I am terrified of lightning. Terrified. Everytime there's a flash outside I can feel my neck retract into my spine a little. :)
But I have to stay awake and finish a paper instead of just trying to sleep it off, so I thought I'd ask...
...what are you guys afraid of?
I'm hoping this will keep me amused through the long haul of my paper. :)

Being unloved... And I'm not exactly happy with the thought of oblivion... As a man, I'm not "allowed" to have irrational fears... I have to be brave all the time...
EDIT: I hate hate hate cockroaches... They give me the hibby jibbies

I don't have any real phobias like that.. although if there were an axe murderer chasing me around, I think that would scare me a bit!
Good luck with your paper. I can definitely relate on that one. I just finished one this afternoon, and now it's math homework for me!

Spiders and bees - they both bite! ;-)
Lightning doesn't bother me, but I am not too fond of thunder. Irrational, I know, but everyone is entitled to one irrational fear.

I'm terrified of jellyfish, bullsharks (that one comes from watching way too much Animal Planet) and heights.
I guess I've got one of the odder ones. I have an extreme phobia of styrofoam.
Specifically the sound. It's the most horrible thing imaginable (for me). I can't stand to touch the stuff for fear of it making that god-awful squeak.

Wow... That's most definately unique... Styrofoam... Hmm...
Guess I can understand that... Similar to the fingernails on Chalk Board thing... That noise gives a lot of people the hibby jibbies...

lol courtbarb...if it makes you feel any better, I have a major problem with people who scrape their teeth when they pull their fork out of their mouth. It sends a shiver down my spine and makes my knees weak.
And I hate spiders too!

I am not afraid of peeing while people are around, but sometimes I have stage fright! I can whip it out and swing it around, but the safety valve won't turn on until I feel comfortable(ie nobody is around)
I am absolutely fearless until i am at a urinal

I have a girlfriend who has to have water running from a bathroom sink before she'll go in public. As if we don't know what she's doing in there just because we can't hear it! She really pulls the wool over our eyes.

It's not about a conscious thought, it's an involuntary relfex that just won't let it come out!

I can't touch paper with wet hands, or wet paper. Makes me feel sick! I don't like spiders, but if they stay still i'm okay.
I get anxious someone will drive in to the back of my car again when they race up to me

bugs.. any bugs. And I'm terrified of dark basements. I always feel like someone's behind me.
And since we're talking about it.. a couple of years ago, I had to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks after a bad car accident.. I learned then that I cannot pee laying down (in a bedpan). I went about 36 hours without going because it just would not work. I was actually in a lot of pain, and really wanted to. I was never so happy to see a catheder!

Snakes and the dark.
courtbarb, your fear isn't so odd at all. My youngest son has ALWAYS hated the sound. He has never liked loud sounds and we have to consider that when we make family plans (ie a baseball game, Mom and Matt stay home). Louder sounds are less of a problem for him at 10, but styrofoam absolutely sends him off the deep end!
My "irrational" fear is hearing emergency sirens and some of my family not being home. I HAVE to call and make sure they are all okay. Silly, I know...

*shivers* pretty much anything that flys and stings...aka wasps and bees...Im pretty allergic to a bunch of things, but ive never been stung by a bee...so i have NO clue if im allergic or not...but I would imagine that I am...so i am TERRIFIED of them...one flew in my mouth in HS...yikes...*shivers again*
Ive spent (work) days at my parents house in my room with a towel shoved under the door because there are wasps in the living room...my father things its funny...*blank stare*
ug...I also have the typical of a previously hurt person, baggage-y irrational fear ....of being alone, dumped, cheated on, walked out on with no explination, etc etc AND I travel for work...my bf being at home all alone for a work week at a time.... I keep from freaking out most of the time...but just barely...i keep thinking of coming home to an empty apartment...0_0

lol, a friend of mine is terrified of bees because she's so allergic; she carries one of those epi-pens with her. I made her promise me that if she ever got stung, she'd call me so I could come and stab her in the leg with it j/k j/k ::grin::
I'm pretty terrified of bees/wasps as well. My mom's really allergic but I've never been stung, so I guess it's rational. I'm not as bad about it as I was when I was a kid though. I remember I had just watched the movie 'My Girl,' (if you're unfamiliar a little boy dies of bee stings). I couldn't go outside all summer without totally freaking out at the sound of a fly or anything.
I'm also a little scared of the future (work, relationships, etc), things unknown, criminals (I live in Savannah and just the other day an old lady was mugged at the mall I go to all the time at 2:00 in the afternoon). Stuff like that scares me, but not to the point that it inhibits my daily functioning.

Me I am afraid of high places...I work in a building and I am on the 25th floor go figure. I can now look out the window, but if I stare down for too long my hands start to sweat. I cannot get on a ladder too high, or even a roof top out in the open...no way not me.
snakes (a lot afraid)
spiders (medium afraid)
getting peanut butter stuck to roof of my mouth (little bit afraid)
