Have you ever been afraid to log the weight loss thinking it's a fluke?
Anyone else leary of logging success in fear that the next day it might rebound?
So what if it goes up again... at least you'll have it on record that you DID achieve that weight at one point - and what you see once, you'll eventually see again.
I try to weigh once a week, that way, if I am good with my diet, the weight will be the same or lower. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day so it is not a good idea to weigh yourself on a daily basis.
I"ve started to weigh myself every other Saturday now. I find I see less fluctations when I weigh in less. But, yes I've been there, done that :)
Best of luck to you dear![]()

I log all of my losses, even when they seem surprising. However, when I have a little weight gain, I totally assume that's a fluke and don't log it. ![]()

Exactly. Optimism is a good thing :)
I weigh myself every day, but I'm finding it interesting how much body changes just from day to day. Then I spend time trying to figure out why it went up, or down, or went down a pound and a bit when all I did was go out walking/jogging for half an hour. If I ascribed value or meaning to the numbers, they'd drive me crazy and I'd have to stop, so I can see why it's not recommended. But me? I do it for science ;)
Extreme here, I generally weigh myself every other Tuesday. The drops are bigger and the trends more consistent. It keeps me on track just fine.
When I was young I weighed myself every day and when I was underweight, I'd stand on the scale and drink water to "gain weight". no lie. It can really mess with your mind. I can't have a scale in my house and I can't obsess over numbers.
I've been a tad on the obsessive side too, my boyfriend performed a scale intervention and I put it away promising only to weigh myself once a week...but I feel like I got it under control so I pulled it back out. I enjoy seeing the results, yes there are fluctuations but there is still a downward pattern and it actually gets me out of bed in the mornings, excited to go look!
However, there is a darker side of daily weigh-ins. Generally I don't trust anything greater than a 1 lb difference from the day before....and yes sometimes if it's on a log day I will try again....last week it showed a 4 pound loss from the week before and I just didn't buy that. So I waited 15 minutes, they say digital scales need time to reset, and tried again. Three pounds. Sold! I logged the three and then this week I was up one, poo, maybe if I had tried again it would have said 2 and then this week I would have just been same...ah well. In the end it is still a downward trend. I love the numbers and trust them, by that I mean if I follow my plan to stay within daily targets, those numbers will translate into consistent weight-loss...I love them and trust them but understand they are not entirely reliable, they are big-picture oriented not detail-oriented. I have some friends like that too ;)
Maybe I will log the loss. I just hate it when the big line jumps back up if you are up a pound. It feels like it's more than a pound. I wonder if that's for shock value. It works on me if it does.
Remember: Your weight will fluctuate from time to time, so try not to get TOO focused on the number on the scale. I know it's tough not to, but try to remind yourself that inches are important too. You might not see the scale budge, but you're still burning fat.
Keep up the good work & keep your eyes on the prize!
NOPE!!! if i weigh it, i save it on my scale!!! a new low?! why not??? it's on the scale as proof!!! :D
If it seems like "too much", i.e., I just lost a pound a couple of days ago and I don't think I could have have lost another in 2 or 3 days, then I wait until I see the new number 3 times in a row (3 days of weighing) before I log it. Usually I will log maybe a 1/2 pound loss and then in the "comment" section, I'll write something like: "actual reading 189". Then I can remember on what day the scale said what amount and in a few days, I log it the new lower amount. My theory: I don't like to ever go up, so I give myself a little grace period before logging low weights so those amounts are most likely here to stay.

me too!! I only log the losses. Makes for a nice steady downward curve. I know I have to get more serious if it's been awhile since I logged my weight![]()
My mom does that too - she only writes it on the calendar if it went down, then she tally's up how many are written at the end of the month.
Once I read someone's post that said:
"Your daily weight is like a kid playing with a yo-yo walking down a hill, it goes up and down, but the trend is downward"
Now it rarely bothers me any more, I watch the four pound band zig zag down the hill. Each week, I look for the highest weight and compare it to last week's highest weight, and the same for the lowest weight. But boy is it nice to see a new low.
I feel this way each and every time.
I log every morning, but I often weigh myself several times and take the average because my scales are a bit funny. I don't care about the individual days so much, it's more important that the graph is going in the right direction over time, say over the course of a week I should be getting a bit closer to the goal and over a month it should be even more so. As long as I can see it on the graph and I'm not pushing my goal date too much I'm happy. My goal date is in November 2008, the one the site found for me, and as it's going now I'll reach my goal weight in January 2009 which I don't think is all that bad.
Did you know studies show that people are more likely to keep off the weight if they weight themselves everyday.
I watch my goal day too!! I secretly want to lose it all by at least september - which is a pound a week, but the goal date is usually somewhere in december. When it moves in to January I feel sad.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
