So earlier this year I was cursed with the misfortune of a tibial stress fracture that took forever to heal. I've been doing cross training with the elliptical all summer and finally felt well enough to start running again, which I've been doing so for about a week. I haven't gone back to the level I've done before, have been doing excellent warm-ups, stretching, cool downs, and all the right things.

But today I've discovered a really sharp pain at a specific point in my right tibia (as opposed to my left one earlier with the stress fracture). It's not as bad as my stress fracture was, which hurt so badly I could barely walk, but the pain is definitely there. How on earth could I develop an injury in a week while doing less than what I've always been doing intensity wise and more than what I've done before in prevention? And how do I avoid a stress fracture if at all possible? I am NOT doing through that terrible rehab and lack of exercise again- I cannot stand being off my leg for that long hobbling around in a bloody boot. Help?

Sorry to bump this post up, but I really need some advice...

im gonna give you a little advice. recently i saw a post by you that you had destroyed your metabolism by sticking to 1000 cals. it is like that this caused significant hormonal upset and resulted in malnutrition and calcium being leeched from your bones. it is now likely that the stress fractures you are suffering is due to this.

a suggestion would be to be tested for osteopenia and to start a calcium supplement like calci-chew. and following that - stop exercising for a while and allow your body to heal
