I am 30 and I don't feel old.
the day i turned 20, the world died. i think i've always been mature for my age, and yeah age is just a number, but i hate not being a silly teenager. i can't get away with anything anymore.
the big One-Oh for me....

its not too long till i'm twenty, i've only just begun to feel old, started going out with a guy five years my senior and am for the first time in what i would call, a serious relationship, i've started to work full time also after dropping out of university [the course was awful :s]

but i'm loving it :D

I spent my whole 20's having babies, being a housewife and getting incredibly FAT. I had more in common with people in their 60's than I did with my age group. I finally got a hold of myself when I was 32, lost 95 lbs, started treating my self with love and respect and I look better now at 39 than I did at 19. People ask my husband if I'm his daughter. he doesn't like it but I do. I don't feel old very often anymore. Enjoy your age.

I was mildly bummed on my 30th birthday, a little more bummed on my 31st, and legitimately depressed about my age during my entire 32nd year.

Then I turned 33 and got over it.  I feel old, I guess, but the difference is now I'm not hung up on it.  (As much.)  :)

(Had to delete my last remark, as I realized this link is in the internet logs on my work pc.)

I feel older every time I talk to young people (teens and under) who don't remember any of my childhood cartoons and music. But I'm only 20, which is nowhere near "old". I figure I'll start feeling old when my age goes into the triple digits =P until then, I'm basically still a kid ;-)
Every year i feel old... and then every year i realize i wasnt old before...but now i really am! o.O
I felt old when I was 18, and my parents basically said, we dont care what you do now, where you go, who you date, it doesnt matter, welcome to adulthood

I am 44 and I do not feel old. I have felt the weight issue, but that has nothing to do with age. I ride motorcycles on the weekends, and enjoy chasing my 2 year old grandson around quite often. Age is in the mind, and age of the body normally has more to do with physical shape.
Okay - well I am 41 and my age doesn't make me feel old -  I feel old when I hear about kids I used to babysit having children, when I realize my youngest is 15 and my eldest is 18....I feel old when I pick out a really nice shirt (I think so anyways) and give it to my son who looks horrified at my total bad taste and throws it on the bottom of his closet never to be seen again - I feel old when I go to put on eye makeup and my eye skin feels loose....age though, is just a number - it's all in your head!!  I think I probably acted the oldest and tired and crabby when I was 27 because I had three children all 2 and younger!!  Today I feel vibrant - wise - and attractive - enjoy these years and the next decade and the next - it's all good as long as your perception is that it's good!  :)
Maybe you're what my new-agey sister calls "an old soul"?

Let's see, as for me... I remember vividly this day when I was around 35, it was early morning, and I'd stopped to get gas on the way to work. The sunlight was shining in just such a way, when I checked my makeup in the mirror, I suddenly noticed WRINKLES for the very first time. Very, very fine lines around my eyes. That was a big shock to me!

I've since gotten over that. My wrinkles are barely noticeable, and I actually think they add character!

Then shortly after that, I had to go off the pill, and chunks of hair fell out. I was left with only the gray ones, which I'd never even noticed, because I'm blonde!!! And they weren't snowy WHITE, like I always imagined they would be, they were GRAY. This ugly, wiry yucky color!

Major disappointment. I started dying my hair and haven't stopped, so I don't think about it.

I thought i'd feel old crossing the 40 barrier. I freaked out my entire 39th year. But then it arrived, and oddly, I felt younger than ever.

Occasionally, since my kids became teens, I'll look at them, and feel a pang ... I'll feel like the dried up, withered rose next to the fresh rose buds. But it passes pretty quickly. At least I don't have zits and teenage angst! And I don't have to go to high school (ack!).

Then there was the time, in the last few months, that my DH (dear husband) decided it was time to stop dying his hair. He is two years older than me, and had been dying it since the 30s, when he went prematurely gray. He has a full, thick head of hair, and looks very very young for his age. Well, in one day he went from reddish brown, to this blue-gray. WOW. What a shock.

It made *me* feel old. But I got over it. I like it now. He's got a george clooney thing going on!!! Mmmm... my favorite celebrity.

And I did recently get another pang, when I read this article implying that in my field if you are over 30 you're all washed up. The idea was that kids coming out of college know more about the internet than people my age. I got really depressed for a week, then I perked up, and realized, heck, I have been on the internet for over 10 years... and if I'm a little rusty in some areas of my skill set, I can take a crash course: so I bought myself 8 books and plan to read them over xmas. You young'uns keep me on my toes. :-)

More than you wanted to know, but it was a fun question to think about and answer - thanks for asking it!

Ill be turning 35 next week and I am starting to feel old....or perhaps thats just depression.  I am starting to see the effects of too much sun..poor diet, etc... and what it has done to my complexion which is starting to bum me out and makes me feel older.

Yep me too. I will be 35 next month. This year I've felt my age more than ever. I see my face in recent photographs and it's the first time I've noticed lines around my mouth and eyes, that sort of thing. Also I have a sh*tload of gray hair and now color my hair every 6 weeks (yes I know I'm vain). The physical parts of aging are now getting to me - like hurting my back if I bend down too quickly. Feeling just plain bone weary sometimes. Not caring so much what I look like on some days simply b/c I'm tired.

**INSERT BIG, MELODARAMATIC, PMS-INFESTED SIGH!!!! HERE**

On the plus side I am becoming more comfortable with who I am as a person. Was talking about this today with some co-workers. In my teens and early 20s, I was pretty darn insecure. I know all teens are not like that but I was, and I was so uncomfortable with my body. I wouldn't go back to those days.

Hominy - I know you're feeling your age. But you're only ~17. Enjoy it while you can and make the most out of it ;) You still have a LOT to look forward to in life.

Oh and like another poster said... seeing people on this site who have a date of birth in the late '80s or '90s... that makes me feel pretty durn old, too. I was born in the early '70s.

This post made me giggle.  If you're meeting teens who don't remember your cartoons, I'm afraid it's not because you're a victim of your age - it's because you're a victim of the inability and/or outright refusal of your generation's media to promote decent music, film, and television.

Case in point:  my teenage son listens to the music and watches the films and television shows and when he was younger, even the cartoons, that I watched when I was his age (and below).  How many kids today will be passing their favorites down to their kids in twenty years?  Not many, is my guess.  With very few exceptions (the Sandlot, for instance), the media of your generation sort of, well, sucks.  It's throwaway.  And that's a shame.
