YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read ... Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out! This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat. (more than 1 but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757... If you haven't, add 1756.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... The first digit of this was your original number. (I.e., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2007) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS

*chuckle* Well look at that. Cute. :)
spot on :)
LOL!!!  That is pretty neat!  8)
Or just start with "pick a number from 1 to 10"... but this was really cute.  And of course it worked, though I don't know how people figure this stuff out!
Actually, this is an old math trick, redone many times with different bells and whistles.  It works like this:

Pick x. (let x range from 1 to 10 in this case)

Then it sets up a little equation with the steps.  The equation varies widely, and is usually pretty simple.  The equation that is generated here is:

Age = 50 ( 2x+5 ) + (1757 or 1756) - birth year

Distributing the 50, we get

Age = 100x + 250 + (1756 or 1757) - birth year
Age = 100x + (2006 or 2007) - birth year

So you see, if you make your birthday the start of the new year (As you are the same age between birthdays), then you told the 'game' your age by subtracting your birth year from the 'current' year.  And then, to make the three-digit number, it just puts your original number choice in the hundreds place by adding 100 times your original number.  And the trick will work next year too - just make that number 1757/1758.

A lot of the 'magic tricks' like this like to misdirect you by giving you a choice that doesn't matter (like the number of times you eat out) and then offhandedly asking for the very information that they are supposed to amaze you by spitting it back out (your birth year).

I love little math tricks.  :-)
My favorite math trick is the "proof" to make 2=1.  A very sneaky little trick.  : )
LOL  interesting... and yup, the answer was correct.
I <heart> Math!
funny and correct...
mmm math .. lol. thanks tho that was fun
This didn't work for me, but I'm 101years old (j/k)
And it still works if you choose 15 times a week. lol. I just had to bend the rules... :-)
hah,that was pretty cool:)
*giggles* that is really good.  I like it and will pass it on to my nephew..he loves math riddles.
*chuckles* omg that was pretty cute!.. loved it thanks!
