age 45-50 group. Anyone interested?
I have looked for twins and poked around other groups without finding a real support group.
I am 48, 5'5", SW 151, CW 134, GW 128
I am the school teaching mother of three in their upper teens, wife of my 3 lbs from goal hubby.
SO...
Anyone interested?
Jen-WOW - that's a great martial arts accomplishment for your son. My son just started 5 months ago, and he earned his green belt tonight. TaeKwonDo was suggested to us to help him because he has some anxiety issues. He is enjoying it, (usually). I hope he continues to Black Belt.
BTW, I had pad thai with rice noodles and stir-fried shrimp for dinner at the local Thai restaurant. I ate the entire thing (oops). I'm estimating it at 800 calories. Honestly, I have no idea. All that Asian food always seems like it should be low in calories, but it never is, is it? Betsy - do you ever see overweight people in China on your trips? How do they all stay thin if all this food is so caloric. Maybe it's the American portion sizes, huh? Since I probably just ate a whole family-size meal.
Good night to everyone. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.
Alylou, sknsue, soph - better write to us tomorrow!
Oh, and a special hello to Cho! How are you? we haven't heard from you lately. Come on, Cho, we miss you.
It's good to see such a supportive and motivated group! I just started with CC 2 weeks ago, and I really enjoy its thoroughness.
I'm 46, 5'1", SW 163, CW 161.5, GW - well, I'd be happy with 135, but ideally? 120
I love to cook - this can be both good and bad, but I'm getting a good grade so far, so hooray!
My weaknesses are that I am tempted to eat when I'm bored, and I can be an emotional eater, especially when unhappy or stressed (I know, that's pretty normal).
I may not lose weight quickly, but as long as it eventually comes off, that's fine by me!![]()
Hi Axe! Welcome to our group! NOW THAT"S quite a name! Surely we will get to hear where that one came from
! Our group is very supportive of all the stress/emotional eaters and then some. We all really do have a sense of humor about it all and this really does help! I have added you to my friends list also and am looking forward to hearing more from you.
Jen um I looked that up in the "CONNIE CALORIE COUNTER" and it actually is 5 1/4 lbs! LOL!
About the Thai food ya know it really does seem it should be low calorie BUT.....I believe everything that's really good usually is NOT!![]()
Aly where are your words of wit and wisdom??? I am about to try an new cranberry drink...cranergy...o fat...50 calories....hoping for MUCHO energy cause I need it! I'll let everyone know what I think about this one. Connie
Jen-you should be very proud of your son! He must have worked very hard to accomplish so much!
Sue-I hope your son can keep it up, too. My oldest son had a lot of anxiety issues when he was about 6-7. I know how hard it is to deal with that. Yes, I've seen some fat people in China lately, more than ever. Most are severely skinny, though. They seem to eat all the time but mostly vegetables and fruit. My daughter has their metabolism (obviously!) and she can eat as much as her teenage brothers (she's 5) and she's skinny, too. Disgusting.
Welcome Axe! The good grades are addicting for me! My daughter wanted pancakes for breakfast today and I was so sad to see that my one pancake made my grade for today so far a B-!
I'm definitely a bored/stressed/unhappy eater! But the logs and grades have seemed to help a lot.
Connie-the cranergy sounds wonderful. Let us know how it was! I could definitely use some energy most days!
Off to start the day. Hope everyone has a good one!
HI Axe - welcome.
where oh where are our missing members? Hello ????
No time this AM, except to say - that ()*&#%@^$% Thai food I had last night must've been loaded with sodium (on top of the salt-rich lentil soup I had for lunch) because my darn scale says I weigh 2 pounds more today than yesterday. Now, I know, I know, you don't gain 2 pounds in a day - so I'm attributing it to water retention. But the number on that scale sure can ruin a day. ARGH. I just shouldn't have weighed in this morning, I know that.
sorry - frustrated - had to vent
Will write more, (happier hopefully), later . . . .Sue
Hi All,
Avoiding work by visiting here. Welcome Axe (your name is a little scary!) This is a great bunch of losers with senses of humor which help us get through the drudgery of losing weight. And I am jealous that you love to cook. I used to but pretty much don't anymore due to rotten kids and their rotten responses to my "gourmet" meals when they were little and even sometimes now. I also eat when I'm bored, tired stressed, you name it. And the experts say that losing slowly makes it more likelythat you'll keep it off. That's my mantra anyway.
Sue/Mom-Martial Arts are great in so many ways. Discipline, confidence, exercise (ew). My son even got us into it and now my husband has his black belt. I got to green myself but got too busy with work (it doesn't rain, it pours) and haven't gotten back to it. Not really my thing but I could use the... well... you know
With regards to the Thai Food-I have found great difficulty with going out to any restaurant, or eating at someone's house, and figuring the calorie count. I am sheepishly admitting that I skip logging those meals and hope for the best. I do try to choose low cal items, veggie wraps, etc, but it's hard to know what they hide in there.
New low today! 5 pounds lost in six weeks... yippee! Slow but steady wins the race.
Sue/Mom-just saw your new post... bummer. Drink lots of water today to flush that stuff out of your system. Today's another day. And that was a heck of a curse! Quite creative!
BTW-the tea weighed 9.5 oz. I zeroed my kitchen scale with the mug on it and filled it up. Obsessive? Who ME??
Yes, it is that time of year when kid activities are crammed back to back. Sue, Jen -- martial arts for the boys. I am thinking that is probably a good energy burner for them!!!
Welcome Axe! I love to cook too - just wish I had more time to do so. And I am a bored eater, emotional eater -- you name it; I can eat just about anytime, anywhere!!!
Sue - yes, you can blame it on the Thai food for sure. Guess we need to train ourselves to wait 2 days before checking in with our scales!! I bet it was worth the little weight blip to enjoy the food though and it will come back off when the water is no longer being retained.
Jenny - way to go!!! Isn't it great to see the scale moving in the right direction after all your hard work. They definitely tout the slow and steady weight loss as a bigger winner in the end so you are right on track!!!
Well I must run -- cultural food fair night for our middle son. Last night was end of year band concert, night before was my once-a-month outing with about a dozen colleagues from work who have a "no-stress book club". This week is flying by and it seems the days all have eating adventures involved.
skn
Hi all! Hope everyone is healthy and happy on this beautiful HOT a.m.! I just wanted to tell about the cranergy drink. It is good if you like cranberry juice (which I do) but really did not seem energized at all. It comes in a little 4 pack so maybe I need to enjoy a few more before giving a true critique! Have a good weekend. Connie
Good morning (it's still morning, here, but not by much!)! Welcome to Axe (you know you *do* have to explain the name, don't you ;-)!
I'm down a lb this week, for my new low of 154 lbs. Yay. I'm hoping to be down another half lb by tomorrow morning--then I have exactly two weeks to lose 4 lbs to get me into the 140s. Wishing won't make it so, but I'm going to do my dang nabbest to get there!
Today was supposed to be "Fun Day" at my kids' school, but it got rained out :( It's only about 65 degrees outside and all damp and rainy. Then it's supposed to be close to 90 tomorrow (and stay that way through Tuesday). What's up with that?
What do people have planned for the weekend? Tomorrow is the last soccer game of the season for my oldest daughter--I'm guessing we'll do something special afterward (special=pizza when you're 9 years old--I am *so* over pizza, it doesn't even tempt me anymore). Then Sunday we're going down to Pawtucket, Rhode Island to see the the PawSox play (the Boston Red Sox Triple A team). It's so hard to get tickets to see the actual Red Sox play in Fenway Park, this was our best bet for a family baseball outing. Hope we don't melt in the heat! On the bright side, this summer I can wear shorts without feeling so darn self-conscious.
Enjoy your weekend!
soph
I am still very frustrated with my scale. Today, I'm still showing around 1.5 pounds more than Monday. I have been very, very good with the exception of the Thai food on Wednesday - and even then, I only had 400 calories going into that dinner - so it shouldn't have been so bad. I've been exercising and drinking gallons of water and still an increase in weight this week. Yesterday I ate 1250 calories and rode my bike and did stomach crunches and anti-arm-jiggle exercises with weights.
So - I am NOT - do you hear me - NOT getting on the scale again until next Tuesday. If I tell all of you, then it will help me keep to my word.
OK, now I know just how very boring it is to read these kind of "gained-a-pound-rants", so I am done complaining.
No real plans for this weekend. My daughter takes the SAT tomorrow at a school quite far away, so I think I'm going to take her there and stay in the area doing some shopping or maybe even see a movie. (Sex and the city, anyone?) Husband and son are going to go see "Prince Caspian" while we are gone. That's it- not too exciting.
I'm going to go lock up my scale now - or pitch it threw the window if it doesn't start behaving. :)
SUE
Thanks for the warm welcome!
About the name: Since I'm apparently older than dirt, I started back when all we had were BBSs to network with. I took the "handle" of The Axe of Judgement, because I didn't necessarily post that much, but when I did, I came in, hit with my opinion, then got back out again. Because I was so blunt and no-nonsense, most people didn't realize I was a woman! That just made me giggle.
My goals for losing weight include not following the same path as my Mom, who was skinny for a long time, then the pendulum swung WAY over to the other side. I saw the effect her weight had on her, and I don't want that for myself.
This week I made some lovely chicken stew. Unfortunately, when I analyzed the recipe, it was a caloric disaster, so I'm having to compensate the rest of the day to balance it out. GRRR!
Hi girls! Well as most of you know i seem to have a friday night pina colada addiction and so I am indulging as we speak after a 95 degree 2 steps from hell traffic bumper to bumper etc kind of day. Now then glad I got that outta my system. I checked out your profile Axe...interesting...and you are not older than dirt!!!!!!!Now I must say thanks for explaining the name! Fun! Sue I have been in that exact same delima....it is water weight and there have been many times WHEN I exercise that also I have went up a lb or two so don't let it get to you. It WILL go back down. It makes u want to scream I know but try and not bust any windows crashing scales through them ok???? Soph....yay for you you'll get those other 4 off in no time!!!!!It seemed to me when I FINALLY hit the 140's those 10 were not as hard as the 130's have been. I know the closer you get to your goal the harder it is. Jenny I am impressed as well with your recent loss my friend!!!!!! Oh Soph I can not believe you are so over PIZZA that is truely one of my craving devils!!! I haven't had a "REAL" one since December!!!!!!!!! Where is everyone else? Having fun somewhere I hope. It's way too hot here to go out anywhere so I'll just sit here and SIP on my pina coladas awhile!!!!!!!!!!
Connie
I am also 48 and 5'5", mother of 19 year old female college student that is bi-polar and 27 year male college student that is just taking FOREVER to grow up.
I too am a programmer, and C# programmer, developing the new Oregon DHS Medicaid System (among many other programmers). I work for EDS, soon to be HP!
I quit smoking in January, and got high Blood Pressure as a gift for it. With high Cholesterol and Menopause, I didn't need another problem. My mom had a triple bipass and Lung cancer in her 60's.
I've been walking a mile, 3 times a week, and started at 183. I've cut my calories to 1200, and so far have only lost 3 lbs. My close are a tiny bit looser.
I have to walk around constant telephone meetings and walk thrus, but I also get to work plenty of overtime without compensation.
soph-sounds like you're doing really well! It's supposed to get into the 90's here tomorrow, too. The baseball game sounds like fun. The minor league ones are more fun IMHO.
Sue-definitely just water weight! Keep working on it, it will come. Definitely don't go near the scale for a while! A day at the movies by yourself sounds like fun.
Hi Axe-sorry about the stew. Hope the rest of your day (and weekend) is better!
Connie-sounds like you have a relaxing evening planned! Anything else going on this weekend?
Sharlie-welcome! Sounds like you're really busy! Keep up the walking, that definitely helps with weight and stress.
As for me, my daughter and I went to a friend's today to meet a group of other friends and do scrapbooking. I've never done it before but I made a little book to send our daughter in China. Tomorrow my daughter has her first gymnastics competition. Unairconditioned gym at 2:30 pm! Then my oldest son is playing at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia at 8 pm. Hoping my husband and I can go out for dinner before the concert! My son also has an audition in Philly on Sunday afternoon and another on Monday evening. I think that's it! We just got our pool opened so we'll probably spend the rest of the time floating there.
Maybe roast marshmallows tonight! That's something even my mom still likes to do. Weight wise I'm below where I was plateaued (is that a word?) so I'm happy. I'm at 141 now so I'm waiting impatiently for the 130's!
Have a great weekend everyone!
I don't think that I am the only busy one.
I am a single mom, by the way, and also a college student online.
I like being busy.
Everyone, have a great weekend.![]()
Im interested! Im 48 also, have 3 boys-twins 20 and 16, Ij aslo in Menopause!!! UGH really struggling
Wow... lots of new losers!! Hi everyone! I usually try to speak to everyone but wow, there's suddenly so many of us!
I'm having an anxiety attack and just polished off two bowls of Peanut Butter Puffins cereal for dinner. Luckily I haven't gone over my calorie limit... yet. But I think I can make it for the rest of the night. But talk about emotional eating! Yikes. Maybe I'd have been better off sipping a Pina Colada!
The reason I'm anxious is that I'm co-chair on our town's recreation committee and we're hosting a Trails Day tomorrow. We've done this before... it's basically a party and cook out for lunch for who ever wants to come. We lead hikes on our new trails and have games in the field and stuff. I get so nervous. This has been a jam packed week, two meetings and this. I don't really know how I get myself into these things. I like to help and then I end up helping too much! How to find a balance??
So tomorrow will be a food challenge and then tomorrow night I can crawl into bed and recover. Sunday? I have to catch up on the work I haven't done this week due to the Rec Comm stuff.
OK - real fast... Connie/Cant-those pina coladas are low cal right? Sue/Mom-I hate my scale! Up-down-up-down... it's the devil! Soph-Have FUN at the game. We have the Portland Sea Dogs here... we haven't gone in while tho... too busy. Axe-if you're older than dirt what does that make me?? Too bad about the stew. Sharlie-Welcome! And don't give up hope for your 27 year old... it took me 10 years to get my degree! Just a late bloomer. Betsy-you gotta pool? Nice! And we make up our own words here. AngelBrenda-Can we shorten to Brenda? Welcome to the struggle! We're here with ya!
Aly, Skn, & Cho - hello where ever you are.
Yo gang!! I have been gone a little over 24hrs and come back to find *you folks* (you can tell I am a Yankee else I would have said *all y'all* <G>) have been very busy.
So a couple of new faces that I haven't welcomed yet. Welcome Sharlie & Brenda. You will like this little group of losers as we all band together for the good of the whole.
Hi Soph!! Glad you are still here as you are all but my twin!! I actually dipped down to 149 (stark naked) one morning, but I am sorta running neck-n-neck with you all the time!!
Axe - I am glad you cleared up your name! You know that if you don't then we make up our own stories!!! Haha.
So Connie, I am sipping a light beer here in VT and really wishing I was sitting with you -- that ice cold pitcher of Pina Colada's between us!! Somehow my light beer is not striking me as appealing as your drink version is!!!
Betsy - my daughter started a scrap book for me on Mothers Day. We worked on it a little the days after and since then it has been sitting at the end of the couch. Guess I need to get a little more fired up about scrap booking as it is definitely fun while doing it.
Jenny - your anxiety is almost contagious. If you spend alot of your time networking and catching up then the food will fade into the background and you won't have to worry about overdoing it. HOWEVER, if you see some dishes that are *to die for* then be sure to have some for you and ME!!!
We had a first meeting for a group from our church that are going to spend a week in New Orleans lending a hand in July. I found a divine chocolate pie during a break that I just had to sample. Probably didn't need that, but it did taste good going down!!
My weekend WAS going to be pretty quiet. My daughter (11yr) headed off across the lake to NY for the weekend and my husband is taking the two boys canoeing tomorrow so I was looking forward to some quiet, clean the house and do some catch-up chores time. However I came home from work to find one of my babies (1mo foal ~250#) was 3 legged lame. After muckling on and giving him some penicillin & a tetanus booster, I realized that my weekend has just gone from restful to stressful. Penicillin shots 2X / day for the next 5-7days will not be a walk in the park as they quickly realize that you not there for treats and 3legged or not he can give me a heck of a run for my money!!
My husband started popping air conditioners in rooms as we are expecting 90+ degree weather and alot of mugginess this weekend. Unlike areas that normally have REGULAR hot weather, it seems like most New England folks do not have central air as we supposedly don't have much unbearable weather. So instead we fight with these air conditioners each year. Of course if I would just put up with the sweating and unhappy sleeping weather I could lose at least another 5# in water weight alone. Now there is a thought!!!
Hi to the rest of the gang too. I really must go to bed and let you guys stop reading my ramble. Have a great weekend if I get too wrapped up to write over the weekend.
Cheers, skn
P.S. Cho - how have you made out with the lost wallet? I am still thinking of you and hope you either had it returned or got everything canceled without a huge hassel.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
About the name: Since I'm apparently older than dirt, I started back when all we had were BBSs to network with.
HI Axe- glad you're with us. But I must confess that I have simply no idea what a BBS is. Maybe I will know when you explain it, or maybe I'm just not "BBS literate". I'm guessing it is short for some sort of computer network thing - hmm? thanks, Sue
Everybody else - sounds like you're all pretty busy - for good and bad reasons. Sorry about the foal, skn - be careful with those shots. Also, your church trip to N'Orleans sounds great. Good for you. My husband and I went there for our 10th anniversary (Waaaay before Katrina) and had a blast. Actually, that was 15 years ago and the last time we ever traveled alone without our kids. Jenny, you hang in there - how many calories does stress burn? Congrats to our "top losers" - you ladies keep me believing that I can do this. Oh yeah, welcome to Shar and "AB" (short for AngelBrenda) - you know you're a part of our group when we start nick-naming your nicknames!
Betsy - tell me more about your son's concert - is he a musician? My daughter is a pianist and also plays clarinet, flute, guitar, french horn, etc. but her first love is piano. Is the Kimmel center a concert hall?
Thanks for the encouragement everyone - I don't usually get feeling down, but I really needed your positive words today. You all get a gold star from me for being awesome friends.
Sue
PS. Do you think when we ALL reach our GOALS we might plan a weekend and all meet somewhere? I know it seems sort of unlikely, but gosh, it could be fun! Maybe a year from now?
Hi everybody! Good grief our group is REALLY growing! I love it! The more the merrier but it is getting too difficult to reply to each and everyone by name so lets just respond and we will (surely) know who is being answered-responded to-laughed at-congratulated-harrassed etc. AGREED????? It really would be a blast if we could all meet somewhere in the middle although I have NO IDEA where that might be! But can u just imagine all of us talking our heads off at once!!! I personally would love that. Lets put our heads together and try to do this in the distant future! Ok lets see welcome to the newest losers and I will add you to my friends list as well. This group is the very best on cc! so choosing us tells me that you are all very smart fun ready for anything kind of women!!!! We have alot of fun here-have alot of kind words when times are hard and have alot of sarcasm so please make sure to keep your sense of humor ALWAYS!!!! The pina coladas were not low cal therefore only 2 of the demons were consumed but I added a rum and diet coke for the finale!!!
I weighed in this a.m. at 134!!!!! HOOORAAAAY! Now Monday it will be back up to 138-139 wait and see! I may be going out with the "ex-boyfriend" tonight so wish me luck that it is a fun night not a stress filled eat all day tomorrow kind of night. I will keep you all posted on the continueing SAGA!
I am hoping to look really good but did wake up (of course) this a.m. looking like a teenager in puberty with 2 zits on my chin!!!! 48 years old and rarely have blemishes but just the thought of a date and...well anyway wish me luck! I hope all is well and I especially will keep the 3 legged baby in my prayers as well as the caring "nurse mom" !!!! Imust go and check out the newbies profiles and add them to friends. Have a great weekend. Connie
