I have looked for twins and poked around other groups without finding a real support group.

I am 48, 5'5", SW 151, CW 134, GW 128

I am the school teaching mother of three in their upper teens, wife of my 3 lbs from goal hubby.

SO...

Anyone interested?

Hi girls It's storming and flooding here right now. We really needed the rain but it's been so dry and now is raining so hard that its causing other problems! I noticed some of US were checking in on other groups....what do you guys think about them? I, personally still like this group the best. It seems so much more friendly and comfortable as if we are old friends. I hope everyone is safe happy and healthy and losing lbs alot better than i am right now!!!!! Later girls...got soooo much to do today!  Connie

Connie - I do belong to other groups. I get different things from each one. I do like this one and the 180's group the best. I am so comfortable here and you don't find that in all the groups. That's why I asked to join here, even though I'm not 45 yet. :)

The scale is holding at the same number right now. That's ok though. As long as there's no gain, I'm happy. :D

Went for a long walk today and went into the ice cream shop and talked to the girl working there. She lives down the road from me. She's young, just 19 but so nice to talk with. It was a nice day to walk so I really enjoyed it. I walked 3.7 miles and burned 490 calories!

I'm going out again for another walk. Just 1 mile this time. Don't want to aggravate (sp?) my leg from overdoing it.

Hope everyone's day was a good one! :D  I'll check in later! C ya!!

I love this thread!  I have joined the 40 something group also.  I love that we all have so much in common just because of our age.

I go to the Obgyn tomorrow and I'm to call the gastro nurse back on Friday if the heartburn doesn't get better.  I so hope it does.

I was stressed and had a bad lunch today but I'm trying to make amends to myself tonight.

It's so much easier to talk to others your own age and not the 20 somethings! I have NOTHING in common with them! lol

I need to call my OBGYN. Haven't been in a while and my PCP is bothering me to get a mammogram. I haven't done that either!  I'm behind on my tests I should be getting. I'll call them tomorrow and make appts to get these things done soon.

I went for my extra walk of 1 mile. So today I burned over 600 calories. I want to see the results on the scale soon!

Have a good night! :D

Hi girls! I can't sleep it is pouring the rain here right now. We need it though. Normally I would call that great sleeping weather. I don't know why my left side is doing the same stuff that happened on my right. My hand is aching so badly up to my wrist. I had anti-inflammatory meds leftover but they don't seem to be helping at all.

Momo you are doing great. I am so glad that you are able to get out and about again. I know what you mean about the 20 somethings. They just don't know what's ahead of them yet ya know! Good and Bad! Your scales should be showing a very nice change soon girl!

Lucy thanks for the response on the menopause issue. I really need to go to the doc but Lord where do I find the time these days!Speaking of stress....I have truly been stress eating again and all day (earlier) I MADE myself be so aware of every morsel that went into my mouth. I think part of my problem is reaching my goal weight and then getting comfortable with it has made me become a bit SLACK!!! Im still not happy with the belly!

Aly where are you????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and Skn Jen Betsy Sue.....EVERYBODY? anyway going to go back to bed and attempt to sleep. Have a great rest of the week ladies!

Connie

Sorry Con, no intention of abandoning you all here - just not been well. Turns out it's all the result of a very bad tooth, for some reason dying from the inside out; which has been removed this morning, no fun as it broke off and had to be operated out.Frown Painkillers now finally working a bit, so I thought I'd check in again here. The good news: I plan to survive this and come out strong Wink

I actually happen to like teenagers and young people, which is a good thing: I work with them all the time. I do my best to help them consider their choices and their moves a little better than I did back thenYell But: because I spend so much time with them, I thoroughly enjoy that you ladies are all grown ups with grown up problems and grown up mutual support!Kiss

Gotta go lie down, I'll be back tomorrow.

Just wanted to be clear I also like teenagers!! I actually like most all ages and all walks of life they usually have very interesting stories. It's just the younger ones (as i'm sure we all did) seem to know everything and I sometimes get a kick outta thinking "yeah I used to tell my mom the same things"....live and learn.you know! Sorry about that tooth. Feel better soon.

WinkConnie

One more thing I still like my animals the best! You know they never said a word when I was fat looked ugly without make-up or ate a whole pizza by myself!!!! Gotta love em!Innocent

Hi all!

Busy! Open house/registration tonight and my classroom looks like it was hit by a tornado! arg. so I am here ...avoiding...well it is better than eating, right??

My girls are doing just fine without me...Cry...Smile...such mixed emotions.

Connie and Truus, hope both of you are better soon! And Connie my sweet little Westies love me no matter what...what a blessing animals are!

Momo, don't make us nag you...Wink...get those tests done!

a cautionary tale for everyone: I will be going to my cousin's funeral in a week. His sister asked the medical people what he died of..they said "he died from not seeing a doctor for 25 years!"  They figured he had an infection like and ear or tonsils and because he wouldn't go to a doctor we are having a funeral for someone way to young!

Hows that for a major league nag!Embarassed

Gotta make an effort to clean this mess!

Alylou

ok...I get the point! I didn't call today....I forgot. :(  But I will make myself a note and put it on my mirror and I WILL call tomorrow. I don't want my daughter to post that I won't be back bc I didn't go to the dr. :(  That's so sad. I'm sorry Aly. Cry

I do like younger people too. Just don't want to hear their smart mouths! lol  They do think they know it all, they have answers for everything. Don't they? But there is a reason you have to be a certain age to be the president! lol  :D

I'm sitting here listening to my Journey cd. I love them!  I haven't listened to it in so long and wonder why! :)

I went for one walk today....2.7 miles and burned 360 calories! Going for another one too!  I want those 160's to show up on the scale. Oh, I think my scale is whacky too!  I weighed myself like 5 times on the scale and only twice was it the same number. Hmmmmm  Makes me wonder what I really weigh! Undecided

Momo- I'm so glad you're walking again.  KUDOS on that.  Glad you're making the appointment.

Connie- You may need an MRI to see exactly what's going on.  My bulging disc cause all kinds of weird pains.  You're welcome for the info and I hope it helps.

Tru- hope your recovery is swift.

Aly - so sorry about your cousin.  Doctors aren't perfect for sure but very needed.  I get a check up every 6 months because of my thyroid but it certainly gives me great peace of mind to know all the levels are ok.  My daughter has been teaching for several weeks now and is enjoying the switch from 5th to 3rd.

The doctor didn't feel anything today.  Good news but he's going to do a mammogram to make sure everything is ok.

Momo-great job walking!  I'm sure it'll show up on the scales soon.  It always makes me feel better just to get out and walk, too.

Connie-hope there wasn't too much flooding there.  Also hope your mom is doing well.

Lucy-glad you got to the doctor and that things seem to be ok so far.  I need to get another mammogram, but keep thinking I'll do it after all the kids' doctor's appts are finished.  They seem never ending, though, so I guess I should just do it anyway.

Truus-same thing happened with one of my teeth (the broken, have to cut it out part).  It's really a scary thing, hope you're doing ok.  Lots of rest.

Aly-did the open house go well?  Glad your girls are doing well.  I know what you mean about it being mixed emotions.  My oldest is becoming very self sufficient lately and its a wonderful, terrible thing!

I like all ages, too, but sharing certain things needs to be done with people who have been there!  My son's doctor appt went ok, they recommended that he have 6-8 weeks of physical therapy.  So now I have to schedule that and get him there.  He's 17 so no one wants to see him without me but they really don't need me for anything so I just sit there unless a paper needs to be signed.  Oh, well, if he went by himself I'd never know what was going on!  I've been doing well still, walking every day and eating well until today.  I stayed at a friend's house too long and ended up having to eat fast food on the way to pick Meleah up at gymnastics.  Now I have hardly any calories for dinner but my husband and I walked so I should be ok even if I end up going over a little.  I'm trying to not worry about it but I'll be thinking about it whenever I step on the scale for a while!

Gotta go, talk to everyone soon!  Betsy

Ok, I'm back! lol  i went for my 2nd walk and walked 2.3 miles. So the total for today is 5 miles walked and 670 calories burned. (Patting myself on the back!)  I was just going to walk 1 mile the 2nd time, but when I got to theturn around spot, I figured I could go the 2 and it wouldn't bother my leg. We'll see tomorrow if I overdid it.

It's 7:30 and I have only eaten 1015 calories!  I better get to the kitchen and eat a sandwich to get my 300 calories I need. I want to get all my calories in by 7, but it hasn't been working out that way.

Connie - how's your mom doing lately?

Lucy - Also glad everything is looking ok.

Aly - When I took my dd to college (which was only a 40 min drive) I cried the whole way back home! I worried all the time about her eating. I always took her groceries and goodies, but later found out she was feeding the whole dorm too! lol  Oh well, they all ate well!!! lol

Betsy - How did you do after eating fast food?  One day won't hurt you anyways. Sometimes we all have to eat on the run. As long as we don't make it a habit! lol That would be so easy to do. I hear it takes 3 days for it to settle in, so you have 3 days to work it off.  Thats what someone told me on here anyways. I don't know if it's true or not.

Still wondering about my scale. Maybe I should just get rid of it for good. I could just go by the way my clothes fit. I don't know if I could do that. Could any of you do that? Or do any of you not weigh yourselves?

Hi Ladies! Momo the only time I did not weigh myself( for about a week or so) is the time I REALLY gained. I wouldn't advise not weighing seriously! If you let the scales "hear" that you are about to THROW THEM OUT they'll probably start being more honest and you will see how much your walks have paid off!! LOl !

My moms eye is doing well but she is still feeling quite sick at her tummy. She is down to just the one drop 3x a day vs the 3 drops 3x aday. Maybe that will help. They didn't put her on any oral meds. Still have 3 more weeks till she sees the doctor again. I don't know how long they usually wait to do the 2nd eye....we both need a little break in between though!

The rain is slacking up here today. Some parts had it bad. My area got much needed rain but not flooded. We need a long soaking rain. All of our farmers are in trouble because of the draught. It's really been a tough year for everybody all over.

I can not imagine the feelings that must go along with getting the kids off to college. I won't even let my cat OUTDOORS!!!!! LOL Ya think I would be one of those OVER protective parents???

Aly I'm sorry about your cousin but appreciate the GO TO THE DOCTOR you sent to us all!

Tru how's the tooth area? Hopefully the pain meds have helped. Feel better soon too.

Betsy How's Mikayla doing? (hope I spelled that correctly). Meleah the gymnast...oh but to be limber again!!!!

Ok girls I'll talk to you soon. Gotta go do the drops!

Connie

Being medicated (in this case definitely a good thing) I sleep a lot and have a feeling that mist or clouds have found a way to get inside my head. Strange feeling, but also quite soothing really - no stress or anything this way. lol  So I just wanted to put in a footnote on the subject of scales - like I said earlier here, I'm definitely not a good friend of my scales. I weigh myself now (well - when I'm normal that is) max once a week, but besides that I use a measuring tape. The most dangerous fat is around the belly, they say - so I use that as an important measuring point. I do that every day or every second day. I find that a nicer way to keep track of myself, especially because when I'm active I know I'll grow muscle (used to have lots of muscle, moved the piano on my own). As we all know muscle is heavier than fat but takes up less space, meaning that I could be dieting and looking and feeling great, but not losing any lbs - but shrink a lot, which is easily measured by a measuring tape. Much less frustrating, I find. Talk to you later, me and my clouds are going down again. Sorry if this was a misty explanation, I hope you follow...

Good Morning! Yep, I'm up early! Can you believe it? I'm usually asleep until noon! hehehehe

Ok, maybe I won't stop weighing altogether. But I have to stop this every day thing I have with them! lol  Maybe I'll tell hubby to hide it until Saturdays. And I won't go looking for it either! (We'll see about that!)

Going for a walk this morning. Seems to be cloudy and cool outside. Probably more rain coming. I think it rained much of the night here.

Well, think I'll head out for my walk.

Have a good day! :D

momo-it's really great that you can walk so much!  I'm sure it's helping a lot.  How is your leg today?  I did good last night, just ate a little meat and mostly vegetables for dinner.  So glad we have fresh veggies from the garden right now!  Maybe I should try to take two walks a day for the next few days so I can try to counteract yesterday!  I started weighing myself daily, I had tried less often but it wasn't working for me.  Measuring also makes me feel good because even if the scales say I've gained if the measurements are the same or smaller I figure it's muscle.  Smile

connie-glad your mom is doing well.  I hope her tummy is getting better, too.  Did you tell the doctor about that?  Maybe there's something they can do to help, next time if not this time around.  Glad you got needed rain but not too much!  Mikayla's doing great we think!  She's picking up English and seems to understand a lot more now.  She seems to have gotten rid of the amoeba in her tummy, no more diarrhea! Laughing  Yes, to be limber like Meleah.  She's constantly telling me that if I practice enough she's sure I could do a split!  That really cracks me up!  The confidence a 5 year old has in their parents is so refreshing sometimes, especially while living with two teenagers!

tru-glad the medication is helping, hope you're getting all the rest you need to recover quickly!

Gotta go take matt (younger son) to the dentist.  Older son goes tomorrow.  Just routine cleanings.  Then pick Meleah up at gymnastics and take my mom grocery shopping.  I tried to get my husband or older son to take her last night but that didn't work!  It's not fun to go with her, her mind wanders and she forgets what things are and wants to look at everything so it takes at least an hour to get two or three small bags of groceries!  It's one of the few times she goes anywhere so I don't have the heart to tell her to hurry (unless I have to get somewhere else!).

Hope everyone's day goes well!  Betsy

Hi!

Just to add another thought into the scales debate: My dad lost 65 lbs in the late 1970's and has maintained it by tracking his weight every day. He hung a calendar on the wall by the scales and writes his weight every morning! It has worked so well for him that I now have a calendar hanging in the bathroom too, not obsessing, just not loosing sight of the issue.

Thanks for the kind words about my cousin, I am sorry if I came on too strong on the Dr. issue, but he was just SO stupid to not see one... Frankly, he was one odd duck in many ways (would only wear green clothes, for instance...) and I wasn't that close to him, I plan on flying back because it would mean a lot to his sisters who are good people.

Lucy I'm sure your Mammogram will be normal, they say that pain is NOT usually associated with cancer. Smile I have typed and cleared three "diagnoses" that might be used for not enough bra support...they were funny, but just not classy enough for our bunch!Undecided

Betsy, I know what you mean about feeling superfluous with your 17 yo at the doctor! really such an awkward in between stage...

Truus, you're a hoot! can I come by your house and actually SEE you on these floaty drugs?Cool PS: do everyone a favor and don't drive until the drugs are gone! hope you feel great, without drugs, very soon.

Alylou

I smiled reading everyone's comments today.  Sounds like everyone is doing well or on the mend and in good spirits.

I weigh on Monday's to keep me on track though the weekend.  Some people it works daily and some not so much.  I'm an old Weight Watcher girl and they always recommended once a week.  If I have really overindulged I will jump on the scale then I get off with my head hung feeling totally rejected like a child that has been scolded so I try to not do that.

My mammo is next Friday and Aly I'm expecting it won't be that either.  I'm going to lay off upper body exercise for a little while as suggested by my massage therapist and see if it will heal.  Just aggravating while I'm trying to lose.

Everyone have a great day!  Tru take a nap for me cause I could use one this morning. LOL

Hello all  - I haven't been around here for awhile (no, I haven't been cheating by going to any other groups of 'losers' - just been sort of not-around, I guess).

Anyway, I think I've read the 100 or so posts since I've been here and I want to add my late thoughts to all of you who have gone through so much (illness, death, struggles, college kids, etc.). You have all been on my mind.

We've had a few struggles of our own lately - maybe that's what has kept me from writing. Still working through things -- 7th grade son's anxiety has worsened; 12th grade daughter is beyond busy; I've been sick for awhile and now have the most awful rash all over my torso (apparently a result of a strep infection- who knew?); hubby is sick, too; and I'm running around like a crazy woman with 2 major volunteer jobs in full swing and my part time subbing, too. The worst for me is my energy level has been way down - I haven't exercised a lick and I wish I could. Luckily, I've still lost a few pounds along the way-- don't really know how, must be the stress.

Hmm . . that sounds all a bit doom and gloom, doesn't it? It really isn't all so bad. I guess when I sit down to type, it comes out that way.

On a happier note - we are getting a new large patio cover installed and buying new lawn furniture, etc. for the backyard. It's an early anniversary present for ourselves-- if autumn ever comes to AZ, we'll have a nice new backyard "room" to enjoy it in. Why don't you all fly out here and see it? Hmm. Margaritas all around?

Well, I think I'm going to try to go for a short walk. Usually being outside helps me concentrate and makes me feel better. (like Momo) So - the dog and I are heading out for a bit. It's already at least 90* this morning, but we'll go anyways.

I've missed you all - hope you have missed me, too.   Sue

That's great Lucy, will do, - anyone else's nap I should take for you while I'm at it? InnocentNo worries, I can easily do them for all of you at the momentYell My hubbie worked at home this morning to be sure that I was okay - I'm sure he said goodbye, but I don't remember him leaving. Momo it is sooo great to hear about your walking, you're a real inspiration you know - and Betsy I completely forget what it was like to have young kids; I like them growing up but it was a great time as well wasn't it. I love this forum, ladies - and now I'll grab my cloud and float back to the sofa where I seem to belong. Oh Aly do come by, lots of regular flights between the US and the NetherlandsLaughing I'll put on the kettle for a nice cup of tea then.... byeeeeeee

Sue - you posted a sec before me, how good to hear from you - I'd looooovvvvveee a margarita: how'd ya think that'd go with my clouds??? Take care!
