Janet ~ Yes, my name is Tammy.  My friends usually shorten it to Tam.  So since you all are my friends you can too.   The police told us last night that everywhere that boy goes, trouble follows.  How nice for us!  And that's terrible to cancel on you!  That wears on your emotions.  You get yourself ready for it, then they change it and you have to do it all over again.

Welcome lory45!  You'll like it here!  I'm fairly new myself and they made me very welcome here.

Hope everyone has a nice evening!  :D

Janet, WHAT a pain! How can they do that to you? Getting ready for a sub is a lot of work (Idid it today, because of my cold I have lost my voice) but the whole mental prep you go though to get psyced up for something like this! Arg, I feel for you...I guess you have the right idea:given lemons...make lemonaid!

Tam, I am glad things got quiet, hopefully the girl will see she should drop that dangerous boy.

G'night, Alylou

Hi all,

First of all: welcome Lory Smile I'm sure you'll like it here.

Tammie that must've been terrifying, your home is supposed to be the safest place there is. Hopefully it was the first AND last time for stuff like that.

Janet how annoying, waiting again. Only one positive conclusion: you're definitely not on the urgency-list. Hm but then you knew that already didn't you. Take care, I hope you're able to kind of enjoy the extra time you suddenly got...

Sue that was a scare with your daughter, how is she now?

Connie you ok? Thinking about you and Laura!

Aly I was thinking that you weren't as loud as we're used to - no voice huh? Lots of tea with honey, dear, great excuse you got thereWink

After 2 days of feeling incredibly fit (can't remember when I last felt like that!), I have a very very tired day today. Probably overdid it a bit yesterday Embarassed But luckily this is a home office-day, so I'm hoping it'll stay quiet.

We've found an organisation of social workers prepared to talk to my niece and me about who and what should help her. Finally. Step 1 has been taken. Poor kid is scared of course, but hanging in there.

Have a nice day allSmile Truus.

One more thing

Some of you might remember that I am professionally a mental coach. I translated a few of the basic things of my work to my life, and it works for me - maybe some of you can use it for Thanksgiving and other eating-occasionsInnocent

1. Decide that you are doing well, because you are seriously working on your cals. Only positive thoughts help!

2. Give yourself compliments when you've done especially well somehow - but never a compliment you can eat!

3. Have faith in yourself - you're hanging on to this project even if it is not moving too fast; you WILL get there!

4. When knowing there's an eating occasion coming up: Think it through, make decisions, plan! - What is the occasion, what will I be faced with, how will I react if I don't plan? Then a decision: Is this a time to give myself a day off from cal counting - or not. In both cases - plan to eat a lot of veggies, don't forget to drink enough water. If your decision was yes I can eat freely, which is very ok, - do it and enjoy it!!!!!!! Is was a conscious choice, so it's okay, no defending yourself, no shame, no regrets, no frustration. Just enjoy it! And you will find that the way back to counting cals is a lot easier than you thought - actually it will probably make it easier afterwards Smile

The trick is the positive thinking and the allowing-yourself-thing! Hugs to all.

Tru - nice advice - it's good to read through affirmations like that.

Thanks everyone for the concern for my daughter. She is still home sick today. She has never missed a day of high school until now (She's a senior). I am, of course, wildly grateful that she doesn't have meningitis or an sort of trouble that would show up on a CT scan of the head; but we still need to get to the bottom of this. I don't think she is having migraines - at least not the "classic" ones you hear about (no aversion to bright light, loud noises, etc). She is still dizzy/lightheaded and a little feverish today. She describes her headache right now as being not really a headache, but she can tell it is just hovering and ready to begin at any time. At this point the doc is 'guessing' it is some sort of viral condition.

Ok - that's it for now. Happy Thanksgiving to all our US friends - and hello to everyone else.

Sue

Tru - wonderful advice!  I'll have to print that and keep reading over it to make it stick.

Sue - Now that I think about it, my stepdaughter always had a horrible headache with all her illnesses.  If she had a cold or a stomach virus.  The doctors would have to give her pain meds for that in addition to meds for the illness.  Almost sounds like she has the flu.  My other daughter had that once and kept fainting and running fever.  It's probably not a migraine if the light and stuff doesn't bother her either.  I hope she continues to recover.  Like Aly I'll keep her on my prayer list.  It sure has been long lately.

Have a great Thanksgiving to the ones who celebrate.

Hello everyone!  Just popping in for a moment.

I've been planning my Thanksgiving menu, which will be a small affair this year.  Always interesting to see what everyone else is making.  I'm going to make roast duck, with a wild rice and butternut squash side dish, and pear-blackberry pie.

I am also thankful!  Not only is my kitchen sink now unstuckered, I tried on a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear for 2 years - and not only did they fit, the thighs are a little baggy!  *glee*

Hi all,

Congratulations Axe. Good for you!

Thanks Tru for the words of wisdom. It's always good to be reminded of positive thinking and being conscious of our actions.

I'm taking advantage of my unplanned presurgery vacation. I'd like to tell you that I lazed around all day but in fact I'm catching up on undone stuff. What can I say? I am a worker ant.

plus 6 degrees Celsius here, minus 17 Celsius  in Inuvik (where my oldest son lives) brrr!

Happy Day! (I'm still counting calories today)

Janet

Hi all!

Just a quickly to say that I am truly relishing my daughter being home for a few days! We are having a ball just being girls together...*sigh* I am going to miss her even more when she has to go back on SundayFrown.

Poignant advice Truus, Like Lucy, I will have to work to make it sink in.

Gotta run, baking pies and breads!

Alylou

Hi Everyone!  I am glad to be back...although I haven't read all the posts I missed over the last few days - you have been a "chatty" bunch though, I can  see that much!

My fibroid procedure went well (according to the surgeon) and I spent one night recovering in hospital.  Got back to our place yesterday.  Pain is manageable, provided I keep on top of the timing of meds...and other than feeling generally tired, I am doing okay.  I have a list of do's and dont's....and hubby has been good at providing tea etc....even though I could manage to make a cuppa just fine on my own!  Still, it's nice to be pampered for a short while, lol.  Time will tell just hw successful the procedure is....gotta give it a few months to allow everyting to settle down again.

It will be a very quiet thanksgiving day for me....won't make it to the parade (would be too much for me).  However, I will try to get outside for a quick walk if the weather is nice enough.  I have sent hubby off to Whole Foods to pick up our "turkey day for two" prepared meal - ha ha - turkey with all the trimmings and all we have to do is heat and eat!!  We gotta do something to acknowledge being in the US on thanksgiving day!

Hope those who are celebrating have a wondeful holiday!

Bye for now,

Suz

Hello everyone!

Suz - Nice to hear you're doing ok.  Rest and take advantage of being pampered.  Wink  Get Well Soon!

Good for you Axe!  It's nice to get those surprises once in a while!

Sue - Hope your daughter gets well soon!  She has to feel better tomorrow so she can eat some good food!

Truus - Things have calmed down around here now. I certainly hope that was a 1st and last of that!  We don't need those things going on here. My kids are still afraid and they're 16 and 21.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Suz - I'm glad you finished with that and are on the road to recovery.  I forgot that you would be up there where the parade is!  Have you ever been?  I always watch it on tv.  We have Mardi Gras here in February.  Lots of nightly parades and lots of big balls.  The parades can get pretty dangerous with people drinking too much and getting out of hand but the balls are so much fun.  You have to be in a society or know someone in one to get tickets.  I think the Thanksgiving Day parade would be awesome to watch in person.  Hmmm I really need to get to losing so I can make it to a ball this year.

Janet - you are an inspiration to me.  Keep up the good work and your good spirits.

Axe - That's great!

Tam- Glad no more action around your house.

Everybody enjoy tomorrow!!!!

Hi everyone,

Although I don't pop in as often as I want...I do enjoy readind the posts...

I want to wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Very Happy Thanksgiving to all, even those who don't have a holiday today!

Nice to "see" you paws!

Hope you are healing quickly Suz!

Connie, I hope your Thanksgiving brightens the month a bit for you!

Lucy, I was at the Macy's parade in 1981! long ago, but it never seems to change much...

Blessings all, Alylou

CONNIEKiss

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving turned out great.

Thanks for the poem Connie.

I watched the parade on tv while preparing food this morning.  Had lunch at my sisters then came home and I pretty much haven't moved since.  I'm afraid I can't help but feel guilt over the amount of food I put away today so I'm about to jump on the treadmill.   Except for stuffing and feeling sick right now it was a good day.

Is anyone shopping tomorrow?  I'm going to try but if it's too crazy I'm coming back home and going back to bed.  Actually the bargains don't look any greater than anytime in December to me but J saw something at Bass Pro Shop he wanted so I guess I'll try to go there.  What we do for the ones we love!

Happy Thanksgiving...or what's left of it!  hehehe

I did so good today & I'm proud of myself!  I ate small portions of everything and even a SMALL slice of pie with a little whipped cream on top!  I went over 1200 but not by much at all and only bc I ate breakfast ( a 100 cal bagel & banana).

Connie, the poem was really nice.  Thanks.

Lucy, no shopping tomorrow for me.  I can't do all that walking right now.  This is the 1st yr in a while I haven't gone to atleast one store.  I love the craziness of it all.

Be back tomorrow!  :)

I hope you all enjoyed your day, whether celebrating or not. Here we're having a one-day-flu hanging around: you get a smashing headache, then all your muscles start to ache and you feel generally terrible. Within 24-36 hours it's all gone though. I had my share yesterday, but considering that I had to go see some people there anyway I decided to give my badminton a try. I trained for 3/4 of an hour - and felt a lot better afterwords.Innocent

Today will be work and preparing the last bits for my younger daughter's December-parcel-calendar. Danish thing: on the 1st of Dec kids get 24 small, wrapped and numbered presents (in our case I'm going to hang them all on strings hung from the ceiling), 1 for each day counting down to Xmas (which is on the 24th in DK by the way). Takes some preparation if you don't want to make it too expensive, but it's fun to make. Smile My older daughter is playing "Piet" today, one of Sinterklaas' black helpers: she'll be all dressed up and painted black, making jokes with the kids and giving out peppernuts (small spicy cookies) and sweets. Cool Funny thing to be a family of 2 languages and 2 cultures - even though Denmark and the Netherlands seem pretty alike, there are some big differences here and there; we try to give our kids the "best" of both - meaning: in our opinion the nicest, most important or most funWink.

Have a nice day, don't buy anything too big now, you're shrinking remember!Yell

Hello All!

Thanksgiving was grand, shopping has been fun, and family time a blessing. But boy, am I tired! Time for a quick nap befor dinner out as a final dinner with middle daughter.

I shopped our outlet mall at midnight, crazy and fun, not too aggressive, although some of the sales were quite worthwhile... especially since a large portion of my shopping is for two college girls who don't have space for "stuff" unless it hangs on a hanger!Wink

Alylou

Hello!

I weighed in this morning and 174!  But TTOM showed his ugly face this morning, so I probably lost weight!  Who loses weight over Thanksgiving for Pete's sake!  ME!  LOL

Almost everything is gone from dinner on Thursday thanks to my kids!  To be able to eat like that and not gain an ounce! Those were the good old days!

No shopping for me yesterday.  My back.....I haven't shopped on Black Friday in years now.  I don't need those women pushing and shoving me around.  I'd have to knock someone out if they gave me an elbow in the back! hehehe

well, hope everyone is recovering and enjoying time with family!
