age 45-50 group. Anyone interested?
I have looked for twins and poked around other groups without finding a real support group.
I am 48, 5'5", SW 151, CW 134, GW 128
I am the school teaching mother of three in their upper teens, wife of my 3 lbs from goal hubby.
SO...
Anyone interested?
Weigh in Wednesday - I lost 2.5 lbs and I'm thrilled. I think it took getting totally depressed over the way I ate Thanksgiving to get me in gear. I'm still 1.5 above my lowest since joining but on my way back down again.
Have a great trip Suz.
Congrats Connie on your anniversary.
Hi All!
I was wondering if any of you were well informed on vitamins? My hair and skin are looking very shabby lately. I realize it is stress related but i had either read or saw on t.v. that vitamins A & E were good for both. Any words of wisdom out there? I have recently started taking vitamin C to help boost me during cold and flu season....but know nada about the others really.
My niece is still holding on but barely. She has not eaten anything for many days and is not using the bathroom any longer. Hospice told my brother today that most of what has been happening is part of the process....They have increased her morphine so she is resting without much pain and does appear to know what is happening around her for the most part. Shes a wonderful beautiful woman inside and out and is very very loved. So many many friends are staying by her side it is wonderful. Her two "cat babies" have not left her for barely a minute for weeks. I thank you all again for all of your prayers and kind words.
Talk again soon!
Connie
Hello All,
Life is so busy right now...but I must say hi to you all!
Connie, thanks for the update, what a blessing that the end is so gentle for her! Prayers are still coming! Congrats on your year of CC, you are doing great! As for the vitamins, I know nothing..Truus? Lucy? I bet they (or others) know...Take care of yourself dear...at least November is over!
Lucy, congrats on the weight! your Mardi Gras discussion made me laugh! I am sometimes such an old prude, I am just not sure I want to put myself in with all that "free" behavior...I dunno, maybe I would go wild...?!...*envisions guys faces as I flashed my saggy 48 year old chest* ...never mind, think I'll stay home!
Truus, I live in an area that was settled 5-6 generations ago by Germans and they still have several of the same traditions going here (under different names). Most of my students are looking forward to a gift on Friday. My husband is Finnish (his folks were born there, he was not) and they do not celebrate St. Nicholas Eve, Nor does my prairie crossing pioneer family. I find it so interesting, all the similarities and differences of our traditions.
Suz have a great trip!
Sue, I do hope your daughter is better soon! And I will be thinking about you at Lunch recess tomorrow as I stand outside in our 5 new inches of snow and our high temp of 20 degrees...![]()
Tammy, hope you heal FAST!
Janet, Thinking about you...hope recovery is a breeze!
and finally: Wed weigh in 126.8, not too bad considering what I have been eating!
G'night, Alylou
Weigh in ------170 lbs! Last week was 174. I weighed that yesterday, so I "stuck" it! I've just been eating when I'm hungry and trying to keep my calories around 1200 since I'm not exercising or moving around much.
Connie ~ Congrats on the 1 year of CC! And so happy to hear that your niece is resting peacefully.
I'm on bedrest for just another week. No spasms today, thank goodness! I go back to the dr next week.
I hope I get back to where I was. I'm nervous that I won't and this is what I'm stuck with now. And that means I won't be able to exercise. Talk about depressing!
I post in another thread and the girls on there were bashing men. Really bad! And making comments about how easy it would be to divorce their husbands. I was appalled (sp?) at what I was reading. So, I spoke up. Which isn't something I usually do. I had to tell them about how wonderful of a husband I have and it takes alot of work and commitment to make a marriage work. I also said there are circumstances when you should divorce. But it shouldn't be an easy out. Ya know? My husband wasn't such a great husband 13 yrs ago, but he is now. They gotta grow up! But anyways, This one girl said she divorced her hubby bc everything had to be his way. But now she's in a relationship with a guy that makes less money than her so she can have the upper hand and things can be her way.
What do you all think of that? I just don't understand it. I know this is my 2nd marriage and my 1st one lasted 1 yr. Basically bc we were just too young. I was 21 and he was 26 with 2 kids and an exwife. Then I went overseas (Army) and he was spending our money (and money I sent home) on other women. But that's why I divorced him.
Well, just wanted others opinions on this. I think we are all older than these girls in this other thread. I couldn't believe what I was reading, is all.
Hi all can I join in. I am 46 year old stay at home mom and I need to lose 76 pounds. I am really short and right now look like a beach ball with arms.
I wish I could remember the vitamins I took. They made me feel really good and I didnt get sick when everyone else around me was. I will check at Walmart today and get back to you on the name of them. They are about 15.00 but well worth it.
Hi Karrie and WELCOME!!! Yes of course you can join us. We are normally a very happy chatty group but lately we have been sharing alot of hard and sad times as well. We are a very close group and would love to have another friend!![]()
Tammy I agree with you. I was married for 15 (very long) years. I say that because my husband drank too much and also ran around on me but i tried to make it work as long as I could. It definitely is hard work and there are time when it is necessary to divorce but it seems that the younger ones just find divorce as an easy out....oh my lord I've just realized I'm sounding like my Mother!!! LOL!
Girls I weighed this a.m. and was down to 135. Now how is this possible? The way I have been eating and instead of going up more I am coming down just about each day. Water? Luck? Wait a week and watch it all catch up again???? I hope not!
Sue I hope your daughter is better soon as well...MAYBE THAT WARM WEATHER will help! It was 19 this a.m. here! No snow though!
Janet as always Hugs coming your way!!!
Lucy great job on the weigh in!!
Suz Hope you are enjoying London and family!!
Truus where is my keeper? I have really missed chatting with you all daily! It has been therapy for me I have realized so now I am back and you guys are stuck with me!![]()
Aly/zippy where did the pina colada days go? I guess now you could just step outside for the crushed ice huh? Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ![]()
Later ladies. I'm trying to come back to Happy and not bring all my sadness into our group!!![]()
Connie
Thank you so much for the welcome!! I really like tight knit groups. You learn so much more and you can help each other out. I am really glad I was welcomed into this group.
Right here Con-hon
Just busy preparing mad gifts the true Dutch way
Imagine a pillow dressed up as a snowman, or a present hidden inside a giant street sign, showing you the way to your keys, where dirty laundry's supposed to be put etc (yes, for hubby!)
The A-C-E vitamins are god for hair and skin, easy to remember: ACE. BUT: what you might actually need is OIL - as in olive oil, flax seed oil, fish oil. Good fats against drying out, makes sense huh. Helps too. Eat fat fish, its good for ya, tastes good as well now that we're all eating so low-fatty. And are you drinking less water at the moment? Your skin is the first place to show the symptoms...
Hi Karrie, welcome to you here - you'll like it here I'm sure ![]()
Tammy about men: I seriously believe that it takes a bit of getting used to that most men grow up a loooooot later than most women. So for a long time the woman is the "mother" in the relationship, which is heavy duty and no fun, especially not when you're young. Apart from that: with the zapping culture we've developed in many areas, it might be understandable that some young women think that they can zap their way through men as well. If things are not the way they want it, they just move on to something (someone) else. For many young people that makes perfect sense, their whole lives are like that. That doesn't make it right though - I agree that marriage takes hard work, patience and you need to want to make it work. Hopefully they will discover that as well, given time.
I guess part of growing up is realizing that NOT everything and everybody in life is perfect - and it's ok; makes you appreciate the good stuff more
- well, that's what I believe anyway.
Hugs all around (that's a lotta hugs now, nice!
), Truus
Just dropping in to add to the hug pool: HUGS!
and to say HI and welcome to Karrie! post 570 of this thread has much info about us here (and a few who we havent seen for a while).
Starting Secret Santas here at school, hope I get someone fun!
Alylou
Welcome Karrie.
Connie I could read your love for you niece in your post. Hugggggssssss I agree with Tru about the oils. I've started taking flax seed oil that I get in the cooler section at the health food store. It comes in capsules and it's good for other things and certainly use olive oil and have some tuna and salmon. Have them check your thyroid at your next check up to. I'm hypothyroid and my skin and hair get horribly dry if my meds aren't correct.
Tru - have fun with your celebration.
Tammy - Marriage is certainly hard work and I'm still working it out with No. 2 and right now that is going great. I'm really concerned about our young people because it is so disposable these days. You know that old saying "if they only knew what I know now"?
We had Pizza Hut pasta at the office for lunch today. It was so good and I was a good girl and kept my portion small.
I just received this funny and thought it went well with the subject of marriage today. Enjoy!
My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping the channels.
She asked, 'What's on TV?'
I said, 'Dust.'
And then the fight started...
My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3
seconds.'
I bought her a scale.
And then the fight started...
When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace
expensive....so, I took her to a gas station...
And then the fight started....
My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school
reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat
alone at a nearby table.
My wife asked, 'Do you know her?'
'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend....I understand she took to
drinking right after we split up
those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife, 'who would think a person could go on celebrating
that long?'
And then the fight started...
THE BROKEN LAWN MOWER
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife
kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had
something else to take care of first, the truck, the car, playing golf.
Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way
to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the
tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I
watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone
only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said,
'When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway.'
The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.
Moral to this story :
Marriage is a relationship in which one person is always right, and the
other is the husband.
Lucy VERY FUNNY!!!!!
I needed that! Even if I have no hubby anymore I can still appreciate the humor!![]()
Connie
LOL Lucy!
Lucy, that is too funny! I gotta show that to my hubby! He'll crack up at the last sentence!
Welcome Karrie! These ladies are the best i've met here on CC. I've lost 70 lbs, and it took a long time. Just remember slow and steady wins the race.
I weighed 169.6 this morning! I wonder if it'll stick around. Time will tell!
Anyone watch Top Chef? I've watched it now a couple seasons and I love watching them cook all that good food! I think most of it is pretty big on calories though.
Well, off to get some hot chocolate now!
Thanks for the laughs, Lucy - those were good! My hubby had a set of those "then the fight started" one-liners on his email, but these are funnier.
Welcome also, to Karrie. You never know what you'll read on our happy/sad/strange/funny little site. Does anyone ever think about all the 'friends' we've had here who have come and gone? It seems like we are saying "welcome" quite often, but so many don't stick around. I know everyone is busy, but I still miss some of our group. Hope you'll tell us more about yourself, Karrie.
Hmm, Aly, Secret Santas in school- now how can we do that among us ladies? Wouldn't that be sooooo fun? Ideas?
My daughter is still not great, but not as bad as she was. We're biding our time to see if things keep looking better or if we need to pursue other medical opinions. She is up a lot more today and even went to her piano lesson, so that's all very good. Thanks for your concern.
Blessings to you Connie and your sweet niece.
Hello to everyone else - no real news to report here. Congrats to so many of you who are doing sooooo well with your weight. Man, maybe it's the cold weather? Burns more calories just living through it?
Tammy - I don't watch Top Chef, but I've seen a few Iron Chef episodes that are fun, and some of those baking shows where they concentrate on fanciful cakes. Plus, I like the Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares show where he goes and helps restore failing restaurants. Oh yeah, how about that real cute chef that shows up in the grocery store and goes home to fix a meal for someone at random - hmm, that's fun, too.
Good luck Tru with all your holiday fun. The wrapping sounds like such fun, can I come help? I'll fly right over. :)
Bye for now - keep up the good work all.
Just realized I wrote the word "fun" about 1000 times in the last message. I better expand my vocabulary! Sue
PS. Butch says "how-the-heck-are-ya?"
Sue - what "fun" to hear from you LOL I hope your daughter gets better. It's hard when your child is sick. I'll keep her in my prayers.
Janet - I hope everything went great for you!
Tammy - I don't think I've saw that. I have watched "Take Home Chef" and yep he could come cook for me! I also like Iron Chef and wish I could cook like that of course without all the heavy creams and such.
Anyone like HGTV? I love it but I've gotten where I don't watch it as much. When I sold my house 2 years ago I had done a lot of work before putting it on the market and I called it "Design to Sell".
Also has anyone watched Ruby on the Style Network? I'm so hoping she conquers her weight problem. All I keep thinking when I watch it is that she's such a great person and so many people overlook what the person is like when they are large and it just makes me sad for her and all of us that have been or are still overweight. People that have never been there don't understand what it's like. That's one of the reasons this forum is so great. We all understand! All I can say is hang in there Ruby!
I think all the "Take home chef" shows are repeats now. I've seen them all! I like Iron Chef, my hubby got me watching that one. I ike all the cooking shows. I get some ideas off of them.
Lucy - HGTV is one of my all time fav channels. My tv is on that channel more than any other. I ike to watch "What is my house worth?" Or whatever its called! lol I don't watch Style network. I don't even know if I get it. I'll have to look.
Sue - Hope your daughter is getting better. At least she's up and moving. And tell Butch hello! LOL Do you watch Ace of Cakes? Is that the show you were talking about? With Chef Duff? I watch that too! Of course, you know I'm the Queen of tv here! LOL I ike Gordon Ramsey too. What's that other show he has where he hires the best chef for one of his restaurants?
Do any of you watch American Idol? They have a 4th judge this season. Randy Jackson was on The View and they showed a picture of her. And no, Paula is not leaving.
Well, this has been FUN! talk to you ladies tomorrow! :) Hubby works 7am-7pm so I'll be on here while he's gone! He likes my attention when he's home in the evenings. LOL :)
Again just a quick hi from the Netherlands - still need to build a sponge-bob scene (with a pineapple of course), some giant earrings from toilet rolls etc - enough to do. But I read all, I laughed, AND I wondered what "Secret Santa" is?????????????
Hugs to all - I agree with whoever mentioned it: we seem to have lost some people on the way. (Maybe it's just too much reading for some
) Should we make a round, try and pick them up? Hugs again, Truus![]()
Hello, Good morning! I was awake watching the news and decided to log on.
I'm putting up my xmas tree soon. When do you all put your trees up? Do yuo get real trees or artificial? I do the artificial thing. I had a real one a couple yrs ago but I'm just not into the whole watering thing and cleaning up the needles out of the carpet for the next year! lol
TRUUS ~ Maybe we should send out some pm's and see what they're doing! That might just be a good idea.
I'll be back later! Not much of a talker this early in the morning.
