Hi!
I am trying a new outlook on the junk food.... I am telling myself that it is unhealthy and will take time off of my life... Trying to view it as poison to my body... It is helping....
Have a great day...
Bev
Hey Janet!!! You know thinking positive can be really hard on some days!!! LOL But it is always worth the effort. I keep reminding myself - daily!!!!
Happy Birthday and what better time than the day after to get back on track? Just think how hot you will look by your next B-day!!! For me I am setting one weekend out a month or rather one Saturday a month to eat what ever and how ever amount I want. I need that outlet to look forward to and when I really want something I can tell myself I can have it - on the first Saturday of the month!!!! Also the holidays have a special rule - no one is allowed to beat themselves up for indulging!!! They are over and in the past! I hope you have a great day and I know you can do it!!! Lauri
Okay. I started 0n January 6th and I lost 5 lbs so far. I have been logging my calories down to the knat's behind and it has been a REAL eye-opener!!! I know these 5 pounds are the "easy" ones, but how encouraging is that?!
This Calorie Counting web site has been the best thing for me because it empowers me with the knowledge of what is actually going in my mouth. It is common sense to know that you will get fat if you eat more than you burn; but my problem was that I never really knew what was going in. Now I know. For me it seems not to be so much of a motivational thing but rather a more pragmatic math problem. Maybe that's the geek in me. And as a bonus, if I move a little more, I can increase the amount of stuff that goes in. Cool!
I know this sounds like a real over-simplification of what is really a complex and sometimes emotional issue. But for me, approaching the problem as...well...a problem that can be solved using simple math; I'm all over it. I never ate because I felt sorry for myself or wanted to comfort myself. I just plain over ate. Now that I am learning what a 48 year old, 6' man can intake and expel - problem solved, eh? We'll see. I am a real rookie at this so I hope I haven't over simplified this to the point that I am oblivious to the REAL struggles ahead. But so far - so good.
I like your attitude and approach. I think this website does take the complication out of loosing weight. I love it that if I mess up - I can work it - take it in stride and move on. I am early in it also and I am already losing weight!!! I always did the low carb approach and this is so much much easier and so far no cravings. I never knew that loosing weight could be this basic. Exercising always sounded so hard and eating right like a mysterious locked up secret!!! This is actually fun - and I refuse to worry about tomorrow - just one day as it comes!!! Today I am loving this!!! Lauri
Wow, what a positive crew! Have a great weekend everybody... it's fun to hear how everybody's doing. Great ideas.
I'm going to a movie tonight and I will not feel guilty about that popcorn... does anybody know how many calories I'll have to log in for mmovie popcorn?
Janet
I changed my profile picture to when my husband and I went to New York 2 summers ago. What fun!
I hope you have fun at the movies!!!! what are you going to see???? Is is Brad Pitt or Jennifer Aniston? Inquiring minds want to know!!! LOL Laurie
Bride Wars with Kate Hudson and Ann Hathaway. It was a hoot.
The funniest part was I went with my best friends whose niece is getting married and who invited her whole family and friends entourage because she is totally obsessed with her upcoming wedding.
Janet
Gawd. I've been awake since just after three this morning. That makes six nights with little sleep. That means that all I want to do is eat. Not vegetables or popcorn either, just all the high fat , high calorie snacks I can get my chubby little hands on. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent Seems minor and inconsequential compared to what a number of people are dealing with. Sometimes I'm such a whiner.
The trailer for Bride Wars looked amusing. Often I enjoy movies more, depending on the mood I'm in or the people I'm with. I particularly like to see comedies with one friend. We just roar when we go to the movies together. Marley and Me looks hilarious or is it just because I'm crazy for my dogs? I read the book. A colleague bought it for me. I enjoyed it. Now I'm reading The Time Traveller's Wife. Everyone I know read it years ago. Anyway, I'm just rambling so I'll sign off.
Lucy, Tammy - still sending positive thoughts your way, You too, Janet. I hope the results of your surgery are good.
Connie- I'm sure you're still rockin the non-smoking lifestyle.
Have a great week-end everyone.
Hi Adarana - just a caution, Marley and Me was only a comeday for half the movie. I didn't read the book but it is also a sad movie. I hope you start sleeping better soon. Nothin gworse than being sleep deprived. Thanks for the positive thoughts; I'm seeing my surgeon on Thursday so hopefully he will give me good news.
Where is everybody? I hope you're all ok...
Janet
Hello everyone! It has been quiet here....Where is Connie???
I saw a couple good movies this weekend......Benjamin Buttons and Gran Torino. GREAT movies! I loved them! Although Benjamin Buttons is a tear jerker and a really long movie. I wasn't expecting to cry at the end. And Clint Eastwood is such a great actor in Gran Torino! Those 2 movies are definitely on my list to buy. I want to see them again.
Janet ~ Good luck with your dr visit and the results. My mom had her 1st Chemo treatment and did well with it. The nurses told her exactly what to expect and they helped her get thru it all. Today she couldn't sit still though and my dad had to take her out of the house. Steroids! Need I say more? And she's constantly putting food in her mouth. I'll be going to visit her tomorrow.
Adarana ~ I want to see Marley and Me too! I like Jennifer Aniston's movies. There's nothing like being sleep deprived. I know all too well. I went through a time when I couldn't sleep for days. Finally my dr gave me sleeping pills to help me get thru it. I don't need them anymore. What was weird was that I didn't get tired either. I just stayed up for days at a time then I'd crash for hours! Drove my hubby and kids crazy!
Good night everyone!
The book Marley and Me was a real tear jerker too - and although I knew it was coming (it built up to it) I bawled my eyes out at the end. But most of it was riotous. I've heard rave reviews about Gran Torino and Benny Buttons. Looking forward to seeing both of them.
Thanks
Adara
Hi everyone,
Haven't really been checking / reading up on everyone's news....just been busy getting daughter sent on her way back to university (she has a 7 hour flight and 3 hour train journey to get there, but arrived safe and sound!)
I was thinking there are a few films I would like to see. We have 3 movie theatres here in Bermuda, all quite small and only single theatres...and right now we have Gran Torino, Ben Button..and 7 Pounds (with Will Smith) playing.
I might have suggested hubby and I go see something tomorrow, but we have just had our first "tiff" of the New Year! I think it is a result of work stress for him, ttom for me, plus the change in they dynamic of the house on the first full day without our daughter here, lol.
Oh well, it's nothing we won't get over by tomorrow.....has to happen from time to time to keep the relationship interesting, I suppose!!!!! We are heading towards 23 years this April....
I see a lot of you are experiencing some extreme weather this weekend...hang in there! I will be flying to New York on Tuesday, hope it is cleared by then! After that on Thursday I am heading to Grand Cayman to meet my hubby for 4 days (business meetings for him). I am looking forward to that....hope we are on speaking terms again ![]()
Stay safe (and warm)!!
Suz
Momo - I hope your mom feels better soon. How many treatments does she have to take?
Janet
She has to have 4 treatments Janet. So not bad. She's sick today though. Not doing too good. She tried to eat this morning and couldn't eat Sausage but got the eggs down ok. She felt really good yesterday so we were hoping that she wouldn't get sick. Hoping tomorrow is better for her. I'm calling her later to see how she's doing. I couldn't go over there today bc I have sniffles. With her having no immune system, can't risk her getting sick. Ya know?
7 Pounds was a great movie too! You have some good movies showing Suz! I'd have a hard time choosing! Grand Cayman.......aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! That's all I can say!
Where in the world is Connie????
Hello everyone! I've been listening to everyone, but not much has been happening here - until yesterday.
I had a bad reaction to something I ate while out with friends. I felt like I was drunk, which would not have been too bad, except that I was at the grocery store at the time, doing some shopping before I went home. It took *hours* before I got back to normal. I guess I won't be eating there again!
That is too strange Axe. What in the world did you eat that could make you feel like that? It sounds awful.
Janet
Oh my goodness Axe! Janet is right - that is too strange. Do you think it was some kind of allergic reaction? Scary.

I asked a friend of mine, who has a lot of food sensitivities. Her guess was that there was probably MSG in the breading on all the appetizers (and probably in the batter on the fish as well). That, coupled with the HFCS in the soda (which I mostly don't drink anymore), caused a reaction. Since I have pretty much eliminated both from my diet, it isn't too surprising that reintroducing them led to a much stronger reaction than anything I had previously.
At least I didn't feel sick; as a matter of fact, I felt really peaceful - just disconnected from my body. My friend's husband had a similar reaction a couple of years ago, caused by eating shrimp. They had never bothered him before, but we went to a Chinese buffet (MSG-free) and he ate a bunch of shrimp. As we sat and talked, he could feel his brain shutting down. Someone else had to drive us back from the restaurant; he was almost like a zombie. We refer to that as "shrimp makes you stupid". Now he can't have shrimp anymore, which he loved.
I would have taken some Benadryl to try to counter the reaction, but I've never needed to have that before, so I didn't have any in the house - and I sure wasn't getting back behind the wheel! I just puttered around the house; I didn't really accomplish much of anything, because I didn't have the mental wherewithal to focus on a task. Even watching TV got to be too much; I finally just put on some music.
That sounds like a description of how I react to sugar: brain shut down, everything seems to slow down, a little dizzy,no focus, extremely tired in no time at all and within app 30 min I'll be asleep. Very strange. Not exactly unpleasant but veeeeery impractical, especially if it happens on a regular basis, say more than once a day like I had it when I ate sugar... I'm glad you managed to come home safely!
I'm fighting to hang in to my new rythm here - when I've worked weekends I need to take Monday off, sometimes Tuesday as well, that's not quite as easy as it sounds. But I'm working on it and the good news is, that everybody seems to understand it, I get no negative reactions whatsoever, not even from clients.
To get a bit of an overview, I "traced" who's been around and who's not been around here this new year: On this forum we haven't so far heard from - Betsybell, Jennytu, Skn, DiP, Paws, Modifieme, Smacca, Kathleen and Salrob.
The (more or less) active group at this point is - Aly, Justamom (Sue), Suz, Lucy, Janet, Momof... (Tammy), Axe, Lisa, Connie, Adrana, Laurie (tuff), Haiko, Bev, Abby, Jasmine and myself, Truus.
Is it an idea to make a new overview like Aly did a while back (post nr 770 or something like that) with short info on each of us?
Have a nice day, each one of you. Truus ![]()
