Anyone interested?
I'm in South Carolina and our wind chill this morning was 5 to 10 degrees!!! Right now it is around 34!!! For me that is a brrrrrr!!! Tonight the actual is forecasted around 15. I think tonight it will be a fire in the fireplace!!! I am thinking of picking up some low fat chocolate milk and warming some up tonight!!! I don't know how all ya'll "Yankees" (lol) handle this cold - cold weather!!!

It is a male perspective, I guess. I learned from my wife that the females of the world are much smarter than men...at least me! So apologies if I come off too "Mr. Science" on all of this stuff. I'm a geek, so I enjoy the numbers, that's all.
Thanks for all the info Haiko.
Lucy, it is so good to hear from you. I hope things begin to get easier now.
We had a balmy day here. It went as high as -2 C, that's 28.4 F. I am so happy - can finally get outdoors for more extended periods. It has been between - 30 C (-22 F) and -40 C (-40 F) for about a month. Windchills have brought the temp to as low as -48C (- 54 F). It is supposed to stay warmer for at least a few days. The school I'm at doesn't close for weather, but often there are only a few kids in attendance. All my students are hardy and most come to school even under the most severe conditions. However, I went outside during break and could not convince them to join me. Sissies![]()
Janet ~ That's such great news to hear! Have a great weekend!
Today here it was -15*F and with the windchill, it was -25*F. School was closed. I stayed indoors, for sure. Our schools close if it gets below zero. There were warnings on tv not to go outdoors for more than 15 minutes or your skin would freeze. I wasn't chancing it at all.
I stayed in and ate all day! LOL I needed to do that. Maybe it will kickstart my losing. I ate 1900 calories today. But so much sodium! OMGosh! I know I shouldn't look at the scale tomorrow. But I know me, I will.
Hubby came home early from work. He took 1/2 a vacation day since he's getting laid off soon. He has 9 now left. He found out too that he's losing his medical insurance, which means I'll have no insurance to pay for my dr visits or medications. They are so darn expensive. I don't know how we'll do it. We'll find a way though. We have to.
Have a good weekend, stay warm those in frigid weather, and enjoy the warmth those who are in better climates! I'm jealous of Haiko!
they say we may get in the mid teens today!! Been so cold here the house was making popping sounds. Sure will be glad to see the -40 below wind chills gone. The next time I see -40 I hope it is on my scale that would be goal weight territory.
Have a good & warmer weekend everyone
Well it has warmed up here in N.C. this morning to a "BALMY" 30 degrees! Feels like a heatwave! Those pounds I lost....I found them again this a.m. Not smoking is not helping.....but I can breathe so guess I better keep on this path.
I have noticed with it being so cold and being a true couch potatoe that I am wanting more junk type foods than normal. Any of you feeling this way? I have a hard time anyway with certain things (pizza, sweets) but lately its been so much harder than usual. Maybe that goes back to the not smoking thing huh? I am still having a cigarette a day. Taking a feww puffs after eating and then putting it out. So far its working because normally I would have 1 1/2 packs a day. I am still holding a sucker what feels like 8 hours a day and that seems to help me as well. Anybody remember Telle Savales? (however you spell his name) He always had that sucker! Thats me just hopefully not to be BALD!
Ok now I really am rambling so I will go and find something healthy to eat for breakfast! Everyone stay warm and have a relaxing Sunday!
Connie
Just had to pop in and tell ya'all MY steelers are going to the SUPER BOWL!!!!!! Yeah, MY Steeler's!!! LOL!!!! I don't think any of you watch football, but just had to tell you.
Be back tomorrow with my weigh in results.....wish me luck!
Hi!
My Father-in-law had a birthday party last weekend. Lunch with cake. Now I get to work all week on trying to loose it back. Up 2.5 pounds. My in-laws don't believe in anyone bringing food to the dinner and they don't beilieve in counting calories. Is it inconsiderate to take your lunch on these occasions? It is hard to determine what to eat when you don't know the calorie count. It is also very depressing to work hard at losing weight to turn around and have to do it again....
Bev
Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm trying to get back on track. I just finished walking on the treadmill and I'm about to do the total gym. Things with my daughter is doing a little better and I'm not stressing as much. So now to tackle my eating again.
If you noticed my whale picture that's about what I feel like right now. I need to find a skinny picture now to adjust my attitude. LOL
I hope everyone has a great week.
Lucy, Glad to see you getting back to normal...you too Connie!
I am not doing so well, daughter #1 is driving me nuts, she is transferring schools with a semester at her Dad's Univ in between, and she, her dog, and her extreme hours are driving us to distraction. Ugh, I thought that when they grew up it got easier!?!
And yes, I have been eating in response.GRRRRR.
Sorry all, I'll cheer up and be back.
Alylou
Aly ~ My dd is 21 and she's still trying to grow up. I've told her over and over she's suppose to be growing up and not depending on mom so much. She is getting alittle better. She says she's moving out this summer......we'll see!
Lucy ~ I'm glad to read you are getting back on track. You just had family to take care of and took a little break. Now you can concentrate on you. :)
Lucy: YOU ARE NOT A WHALE! How about a dolphin
? Intelligence and lots of personality, moving elegantly and being ever so charming: sounds a lot more like you! ![]()
Bev - what is inconsiderate is a very personal thing. Lots of people would be understanding and forthcoming if you told them how you're working on your weight. But my experience with my in-laws was exactly the same as yours - and even my own mum is having trouble getting her head around it when I say I eat my way, not hers when I'm visiting. Would it be possible to make a deal with them next time - f.i. if they promise to keep some veggies apart for you before the dips and dressings and stuff, then you can eat what they cook. As long as you stick to basic stuff, not transferred into a "dish" yet, you'll almost always be able to find it here on cc. Good luck.
Con: you might need to watch out if you get enough good fats. Cravings for fats when you're cold sounds like some basic instinct like polar bears to build up insulation against the cold. But take my word for it: it's not exactly pizza and chocolate you need against the cold dear
Try olive oil, fat fish and (you've heard it before I know) flax seed oil.
Here in the Netherlands the winter has gotten warmer, more like autumn weather actually, windy and rainy. I don't really mind, I make it warm and cosy inside and when I'm not working or doing the household-stuff, I cuddle up with a book or my knit-work with a movie on my laptop. The last is the better way, when knitting one can't eat!
I'm finding a rhythm in my days where I eat 6 times each day and don't even think about eating in between, that's a major victory! So to celebrate I booked for my birthday present from all my friends: half a day of massages and getting my face shined up, yeah: Thursday's the day
Have a nice day. Truus
Connie Who loves ya, baby? yes I remember Telly. I still chew gum often since I quit. Got to do what you need to do. I did gain when i first quit. I started doing lots of cross stitching when I watched TV to keep my hands busy that seemed to help. Good luck to ya.
Boo Hiss Steelers
We are up to a balmy 18 degrees here!!
Bev I just eat small portions and I avoid the sugar. When my family or friends say anything at a get together I just tell them I am on a diet & being a good girl. people usually then tell me how they are impressed with my willpower which then makes me feel good. People who do give you a hard time at first will come around in time when they see you sticking to it over time and then become very supportive.
Hi all,
Aly you know at the moment I know about our kids driving us crazy but it will pass. Try not let it affect you as bad as I did.
Tru -lol- I am a whale right now but planning to be a minnow in the future. I'll have to search for a new picture that suits what I want to be.
Connie- I'm so glad you stopped smoking and like everything else it takes time. Your great sense of humor will pull you though.
Tammy - hope your team does well. I'm not a sports fan unless it's one of my home state teams. I was proud of Alabama this year but even that doesn't get me too excited.
Jasmine - we were at 27 this morning and tomorrow will be colder and that's very low for us.
Hi everyone,
I just got through watching the US Presidential inauguration. I love all the pomp and circumstance and patriotic songs. Even though I didn't vote for Obama, I'm still a sucker for the ceremony of it all.
Anyway - speaking of "ceremonies" - I guess me and Tammy are gunning for a fight now with the upcoming Superbowl - since I'm from Arizona and the Cardinals are going to the Superbowl and she's a Steelers fan. Actually - just kidding about the fight, since I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in football (oops, sorry, to offend anyone with that comment).
Glad to hear from everyone - Connie keep up the good work. And to those with bad eating issues, it can't just be the cold, because it is extremely warm here in AZ (80* today - wanna' come visit?????) and I'm still eating not-so-good-for-you stuff. To those doing well on their food plans, congrats, I really have to get back on track.
Weigh-in (measure-in) Wednesday, anyone? Are you game? Maybe it's the accountability I need.
Happy Day to all, Sue
Hi Sue,
If I'm a real brave girl I'll weigh in tomorrow. J weighed suitcases on my scale when the kids were leaving at Christmas and I'm not sure they are working right. At least I hope they aren't.
The numbers have not been good.
I didn't watch the inauguration because I'm at work but I did hear part of the speech at lunch. Everything in our country concerns me at the moment so I'm playing the ostrich with her head in the sand. I'm praying that we can pull ourselves out of this slump and things will improve and praying for our new president and his family. Can you even imagine what having that job must be like?
I'm in Sue, although the scales make my knees quake at the moment! I watched with my class, they need to "get" the history of the day.
Lucy, I'm with you praying for the country!
Happy Early B-day Truus! a spa day sounds Divine!
Tammy, I am glad your glad, but we in WI say: what superbowl? no Packers? no Superbowl!
actually I am more in Sue's camp...just not much of a football fan.
Bev, It is a pain when family is not supportive, my plan is usually to eat what I can within my plan and draw as little attention to my plate as possible.
Jasmine, it is 18 here too!
Connie, It sounds like you are doing a great job! Quiting is HUGE! I am happy for you!
Gotta run, Alylou
I kinda figured you all weren't big football fans, but I was just so dang happy!
I watched President Barack H. Obama ALL day! I'm just so in awe of it all. History! I never thought I'd see a black president in the US in my lifetime. WOW! And he's such a great speaker! The speech was fantastic! I wish I were there to witness history being made. My daughter was even filled with emotions. What a day!
I had to take my son to the dr...........he's a sick kid! He has bronchitis and just not doing great. Came home with 8 medications and only 2 were refills for his asthma meds. He'll be home tomorrow again. Hope the penicillin starts working quickly for him.
Weigh in today was 170.6, down some more. Today ate maintenance and I plan on doing that once a week to keep the weight loss going. It worked for last week, so why stop? lol
Congratulations to all my american friends on your big historical day. We are watching here in Canada. How exciting.
My big problem lately is that I'm going to the movies too much....oh that popcorn. I still don't lnow how many calories I'm eating in that movie popcorn?? Anybody know??
Janet
Eek, Janet, I don't think you want to know the calorie count in movie theater popcorn. But, I'm with you . . .it is soooooo good. I can't resist it, even if I go to the movies right after a good dinner. Movie = Popcorn to me.
G'nite all, Sue
PS. Janet - what movies have you been watching? We just saw "Seven Pounds" with Will Smith. DE-PRESS-ING. Well-acted, but such a downer.
Can I lose weight by walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes twice a day?
You will lose weight if your calorie intake is less than your calorie output. By walking on the treadmill for 40 minutes, you (personally... Read more
