I'm new but have looked over the forums and such for a specific age group, 50+ to be exact. Titles don't give ages and it takes time to scan postings for one that I might have something in common with. I'm hesitant to post a comment to someone much younger than I am when circumstances aren't quite the same. Any ideas out there?

I know that there was one or two. Can't find them anywhere.
Sorry. There are quite a few members that are over fifty.
Thanks for looking - I'm sure I'll eventually find them. ![]()
Senior corner in the lounge -- I believe the other 50+ weight loss group (but I can't find it, anyway) is closed -- however, you could always start another. Just go into the forum you want, open up a thread and invite the over 50's to join you. I've got a couple of years yet, otherwise I'd join up

Welcome!
There are several threads specific to those of us over 50. The ones I find most helpful are under motivation. Try the Geturdone thread. They are all great. I'll add you as a friend. Feel free to add me. I'm 53 and soon to be 54. I've been a member since February and have lost 17 pounds. Most in the last 2 months. This is a very supportive and informative community.

Thanks Coach_K and ynnep! I'll check them out! ![]()
I've looked all over but can't figure out how to "add" a friend. Where is that located or what do I click on? Thanks!
To add a friend just click on that person's picture and it will take you to their personal page, In the upper righthand corner it will say Add a Buddy. Click on that and you have a new friend! they get a notification that you have added them as a friend.
Thanks! Guess I did it right, then. ![]()
hey fidgit--i am new too so reading your postings has been helpful. i am 57.5 and need to lose 59 pounds. i always have good intentions, but somehow they get screwed up throughout the day. i'd like to add you as a buddy to commiserate. my name is joanie and i live in wilmington, nc. i am married to a very skinny guy and we have 4 daughters and 7 grandkids. my biggest challenge is chocolate and substitutions do not work for me. if it is not the real thing i can devour all the fakes and then still have to have the real thing...so portion control is the key. i also like to have a cocktail which provides no nutritional value, so thats another big hurdle for me. any suggestions?--joanie
Hey! Someone after my own heart! I love Hershey chocolate and would tend to overdo on it, so I either buy one candy bar and allow myself just one of the small rectangles a day or I buy the mini's and have just one a day - IF I crave it. Otherwise, I just don't eat one. I also tend to overeat on the Dutch chocolate ice cream. So, I have begun to really watch the servings. I keep it to one measuring cup only if I crave it. I thought about buying those little cup ones like kids get at school, but I'm a frugal shopper and just can't make myself pay the same amount for the cups as for the entire container! It used to be that if I didn't have it in the house I just craved it more. Now, however, after weaning myself off, I haven't bought it at all and am not missing it.
As for the cocktails, yes I also have those at times, especially in the summer! When out, I either cut back on the ones with the added sugar like the sweet drinks, or I ask for an extra glass and I split one with a friend so I'm only having half. If I'm making it myself, I'm cutting them back and adding alot more crushed ice even if it is just a 7&7 or such. But, then again, I don't have one every day - just every once in a while.
That's my plan so far, but I'm not an expert by no means! I know myself enough that if I deprive myself I just want it more. So, I allow myself to indulge but only by a teeny bit and if I don't want it, I don't eat/drink it. Have to go now - heading out of town. Bye!
Hi Figit,
I'm 52 and married to a great woman who shares my desire to enjoy life more through better health. We both have been counting our calories for about 2 months now with good results. The reason I'm replying to your post is that, you said somthing about buy small containers of ice cream for your cravings and portion control. I'd like to share my food source with you. I too, don't know when to quit when eating my favorite foods, so I started buying Hormel compleats in the lunch section, and there is not one meal there that is over 280 calories. This is great because when I sit down to eat I just pull out one hormel compleat, one small can of veggies, a small container of applesauce, and two slices of unbuttered whole wheat bread and I know I'm not over eating. I've lost 6 Lbs. in the last 3 weeks eating like this, and I think that I'm not depriving myself of anything, I even eat Famous Amos cookies-chocolate chip(4=150 calories), it's all about portions. Point is , I eat what ever I want and the portion is allready divided and counted for me . No scales for me!
I did however buy a new body scale today from Wal-Mart($25.00) that tells me how much body fat, and water weight I have in %, it's really cool.
Anyway, I hope you find this helpful to you, and good luck with your goals, everyday that your eating healthier, is a better day.
