ahh soooooo low for the day!

Quote  |  Reply

ok so today i was really busy i had to write a paper for english, then had cheerleading for a football game, then went to my aunts house. since i was so busy i tried to squeek in eating where i could and am sooo low. before my evening snack i was only at about 750 cals for the entire day!! so i ate a cottage double (130 cal) a graham cracker (60 cal) an apple (70cal) and a nutrigrain fruit and nut bar (120cal). that got me up to about 1100 which is still wayyyyyy too low for the day. i cannot eat any more because ill feel gross cuz its already almost 10. is it bad that i ate that much that late? is that a binge? bcuz it was still way under my cals for the day but i just feel gross eating too much at one time. obvi recovering from anorexia im bound to feel that way. but any who, any suggestions for high cal snacks to eat when im low like that bcuz eating a lot of smaller things feels worse than if i just ate one more calorie dense thing.

I know exactly what you mean when you say that eating a lot of smaller things feels worse than eating one calorific thing... I'm currently trying recovering from anorexia, and at the moment, it's weird because I feel as though if I eat a salad, a fruit and a few rice cakes, it's almost worse than eating 2 chocolate biscuits or something, even though the calories would probably be around the same; it's just because it's more food. :/

Anyway, I'm happy to see that you're recovering from anorexia and are making progress. ^_^ It gives me hope. :] If you don't have a problem with junk food, crisps, ice cream and chocolate can help up your calories... But then if you also suffered with bulimia, then I don't suggest upping your calories via junk food. I've tried to do that myself, and it just makes me want to be sick. >_< Nuts and raisins have quite a lot of calories in them. Raisins are probably the best thing, because they're a fruit, and you don't have to eat very many to get your calories up. :)

There's a picture of 300cals worth of raisins. It may look like a lot, but you don't have to eat it all in one go, if you're desperate to get your calories up.
If you're going to go for fruit, banana is probably the best option as a medium sized one has around 120cals... Oh, and there's cheese! That has a lot of calories! ^_^

Hope I helped. :] And good luck with everything! <3

Butterfly is right. You want to eat high-cal, low density foods. Nuts, nut butters, dried fruits, dense fruit like bananas, full fat dairy products, or make up a small stir fry with some olive oil.

A PB and banana sandwich can rack you up 550 calories pronto. One large banana is about 110 calories. Four teaspoons of PB are about 60 calories each. Two slices of wholemeal bread will rack you about 90-100 calories per slice. Banana, plus bread? 310. Plus the four teaspoons of PB? 550. Very nice grilled or with a drizzle of honey added in if you're up for it.

You could try making a smoothie with some full fat milk and/or yoghurt, honey, nuts and a banana, and other fruits of your choosing (or even just the first three, like a greek yoghurt, almond and banana smoothie! @__@ Yum). Or an ice cream sundae in the same sort of manner. Oatmeal is also a good base for denser foods - you can easily stir in nut butters, nuts, and dried fruit into oatmeal and make it with milk and it's still easy on the stomach.

Stir fry, as I said, is easily done. Just do it up in oil and throw in some cashews or peanuts or similar to help bring up calorie content. You could also make a grilled cheese sandwich or two!

There are lots of ideas, and lots of high-cal foods listed at the top of the forum. But don't let yourself fall at 1100 and think "oh, it's --pm, so I can't eat this late" because there is never any rule on when to stop eating. Think of your health, not of the time. I hope this helps!

I think, if you're  in recovery, food has to take priority and other things worked around it... not food squeaked in as an afterthought.   It's not a binge if you end up eating 1100 cals in a day.  Your 380 cal evening snack was pretty small beer.

Plan your day better so that you get regular meals.  Routine and structure are important.  For between times, keep big packets of nuts and raisins handy plue some protein/cereal bars, dates, chocolate, bananas, protein/milk drinks...   And keep your fridge stocked with plenty of hard-boiled eggs, cooked meats, yoghurts (full-fat), potato salad, coleslaw, mayonnaise, oil dressing.   Then you can scare up a high cal salad or a sandwich in minutes.    If you know you're going cheerleading at a football game, pack something to take with you.  If you're at your aunt's house, ask her to make you a meal.

Do try to be better prepared.

Lol. Got to love how alcohol calories rack up. D: And I always forget to suggest chocolate because I can't really eat much of it unless I get super super dark varieties (not that that is bad in the least), but, yes - chocolate is also another good way of packing calories in in low density. Melting it all the more so.

Greek yogurt is really dense--240 cals for a regular sized yogurt carton. Throw in some granola and some fruit and you have a great snack, and can easily rake in some cals!

Many days at school I'm really busy too.. finish school at 4.40 and have a sports club starting at 5 till dinner ... wot i tend to do to help keep things up is while doing sport drink a  sports drink (gatorade etc) for its just a bit of extra cals hen ur burning so much... (the only soft drink i will drink is while doing sport because while doing sport u need the sugars!!) also u may find it useful to take a bar or something small (i take a low fat rice pudding) for straight afterwards so you always have soemthing after a workout?? It seems not to make u full aswel.. weird but HEY!!!!
hope these ideas are useful and dont worry I sometimes have bad days aswel and really cant eat anymore for feel terrible but u just got to pick urself up and eat well to day... u can do it!!!

I think gi-jane is right u should probs plan ur day wiv food in it!!! get into a routine that suits u and it shud all fall into place!!!

Good Luck and ur doin gr8!!! :)

thankss for all the advice!! i deffinitly will try to plan my days better from now on when i know ill be super busy. and those ideas for high cal snacks are awesome and totally something i would try!

Ah yes, alcohol - a great calorie upper. D: Okay for me though, I suppose, as I don't drink alcohol anymore. Perhaps I should. o_0 But yes, how could I not mention melted chocolate? Mmm. ^_^ That's one thing I'm a sucker for, really. :]

Good luck with everything once again, alexa81! :] And remember to keep that extra packet of raisins or nuts in your pocket. ;]

I don't know why you had a 380 calorie snack instead of having a meal?  And I just don't buy the  "I didn't have time to eat" story.  Learn to plan your meals and your time better.
