ahhh....losing wiehgt+people's comments
I don't know what it is but every fall I tend to lose weight, only to gain it back between the holiday and summer....
well anyway, I am a 5'7'' 20 y.o. male who once weighed 260 lbs (2 years ago)...I went down to 132 and developed an ED by the end of my "diet"..I have since yo-yoed up to 165ish (which is what I weighed in mid-May 2008)...since then I have gone back down, but not by dieting or anything but just by eating healthy, cutting out diet soda, and jogging 4 miles a day about and doing yoga....as a result I have gone back down to like 137 (my lowest weight since I had my ED in the winter/spring of 2007. Now I am getting all these comments from the same people who always complain that I was too thin (even at 160)....it is really getting annoying because I am eating healthy for a change (very little processed stuff and very natural) and never miss a meal...could I be eating more? probably a little but I am full at the end of the day and don't feel malnourished at all....
now my question is is 137 too thin for a 5'7'' male...I don't think it is. My second question is I have been losing about 2 lbs a week over the past few weeks (I had been at like 145 all fall, but since like mid-November have been losing even though I am eating/exercising the same amount)....what exactly do I do about that, I don't want to be back down into the really low 130's....also shoudl I gain maybe a few pounds? I don't go by people's comments because I don't trust them and they are rude about it..
any advice appreciated
i assume you don't believe people comments (that can physically see you) since you are asking for advice / comments.... :)
137 sounds light for your height. hydrostatic weighing would be beneficial. test can tell you your lean body mass and % body fat. if you lost weight quickly, you may have lost a lot of muscle mass as well. you could probably stand to increase your muscle mass. have you been incorporating weight training into your routine? don't believe all that low weight / high rep stuff b/c you won't build muscle on that routine. you will also have to increase overall calorie consumption and make sure that you are getting enough protein in your diet.
hope my advice helps.
A normal, healthy BMI is 20 - 25. If you're 5'7" that's about 130 - 160lbs. If you have a large/broad frame you'll look healthy at 150-160lbs but gaunt/pinched if you go lower. If you're slightly built 130-145 will suit you. If you're average-framed... anywhere in the middle 140-150lbs
Make sure your clothes fit well. Sometimes big people lose weight and forget to size down the clothes so they end up looking like they've got some terrible wasting disease
Get plenty of fresh air and make good food choices so that you've got colour in your cheeks and a smile on your lips rather than a sallow complexion which can be confused for being sick. Sounds like you should go for maintenance calories now.... losing 2lbs a week is rather too fast for someone who isn't overweight. Obviously your ED past is going to mean people are watching out that you don't go back there.... maybe reassurance is needed? And then it's just a case of people getting used to your new size.
It's a tad thin, but do you have a small frame?
I'll tell ya what's too thin.. My recent ex has dipped below 119... and he's 5'9.. I wouldn't say it's GROSS, but it's so thin, he looks like a sick, anorexic girl (i said girl because he has very little muscle).. so I imagine you look great compared to him, ahaha.
I would say I have a medium frame...I am definately not a really small person...I mean when I weighed 260 even though I was overweight, I did carry it well...people thought I looked fine when I reached 200...a lot of people say I look "unnaturally" and "unhealthy" thin at this point...I don't get it though...I don't know if it is because they once saw me so heavy and this is still ahrd for them or if they are in fact right
what I don't get is how can I be/look underweight at 136 (which is what I now weigh as of today) if this is my BMI?...I mean is it possible that I am really underweight at this weight?
the problem is if they are right, is I like my current weight and how I exercise and eat and am not changing it...of course if I keep losing I will have to up my calories...but other than that I am not gaining
Your actual weight doesn't matter right now. But the fact that you are losing two pounds a week for the last month does! You have no need to lose weight, so why are you? Obviously you need to eat more.
