I'm not a big drinker, but tonight we're going out for my friend's bachelorette party. It's at a martini bar. If I have a drink, are there any alcohols that are better than others?
vodka with a low cal mixer!
I second that....I usually like vodka/diet sprite but since no bars have diet sprite, I generally get vanilla vodka/diet coke.
I'd recommend avoiding those that taste good... ![]()
Well, usually a decent sized martini will run about 180 cals, so either plan on indulging, or you can go with a single shot of vodka or rum with a sugar free mixer or diet soda. I like martinis, so if I know I'm going to a decent martini bar, I exercise a little more that day so I can enjoy it.
Just to give you a heads up, diet mixers (especially carbonated ones) will speed up the rate of alcohol absorbtion into your blood stream... which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it!
This site has a listing of the calorie values of basic liquors. I'd recommend doing some exploring.
I am going to a friend's bachelorette party tonight as well! Here is a site that I have found helpful, I do not drink often but it has helped to make the best decision when I do decide to have a drink. Have fun tonight! ![]()

I like orange flavored vodka and soda water. Soda water does not have calories but tonic does.
Yes, some alcholols are better than others. Borubon, for instance, is better than Grape Schnapps.
Oh, wait, you mean in terms of calories. Nope, pretty well even up there, unless you start heading into Rock and Rye territory, which, I'm pretty sure, is a drink that has never been drank at a bachelor party, much less a bachelorette party.
Also, if you plan on having more than 2 drinks, its a good idea to take some vitamin B. It promotes liver functions and helps your metabolism!
Besides the calories in the drinks, one of the worst things for me about drinking is it lowers my will power and makes snacking seem so OK! Watch out for the nuts, appetizers, cake, etc...
Vodka & soda water (seltzer) - you'll stay hydrated and vodka is relatively low cal.
Plus, you can switch over to just seltzer as the night goes on and no one will notice.
