Depends on your level of tolerance, and what a 'good buzz' means to you. Frankly, I'd save the 'buzz' and keep the weight under control.
Get a good 'buzz' from being slender; not from getting intoxicated.
Does that sound too blunt for a college student? Possibly right now it does, but when you're my age, it won't.
I'd limit drinks to three in an evening; try drinking wine which is better for you (nutritionally), and you can 'sip it' (don't gulp), so you can control the intake. Get a little 'happy' - get a little 'sleepy', but don't get falling down drunk or so buzzed you can't drive home safely. My aunt and uncle liked the 'buzz' - died in a car crash under the influence at ages 28 and 30. My dad crashed his car 3 times; died of alcohol abuse. My sister is now in rehab' for alcohol abuse (and losing weight also). My other two sisters have crashed their cars (survived) now they are dry'.
My daughter-in-law was killed by a drunk driver (Katrina was her name - she was 33 years old).
My husband beat me up while 'buzzed' - destroyed furniture and our marriage.
I'd say forget the 'buzz'............and stay alive so you can finish school and have a good life.
I've come to the conclusion that nothing good ever comes out of "a buzz" or drunkenness.
Just limit yourself to a few drinks, and don't focus on the psychological effects; you'll probably be much better off that way.
Diet coke & rum on an empty stomach does the job for me.
Artificial sweetners supposedly increase your alcohol absorption rate and caffeine helps enhance the buzz.
Some say its urban legends, but according to an article on MSNBC, Australian researchers "found that artificial sweeteners found in such popular mixers as Diet Coke and sugar-free Red Bull lead to a high rate of alcohol absorption, resulting in a greater blood alcohol peak and concentration than from drinks made with sugar-based mixers."
The alcohol itself has the calories, so don't look for any magic diet alcohols. All you can hope for is that the drink is not laced with other calorie rich junk that gets in the way of the alcohol & your buzz. Everclear is probably the most effective, given its 95% pure alcohol, but its hard to take straight and diet coke doesn't chase it well. Hence my choice, diet coke and rum. It'll cost you about 100-150 calories each depending on how much rum is in the glass.
A finger of scotch to get the evening rolling and glass of wine or two. Nice buzz, no hang over. Plus, if you keep yourself hydrated and spread the drinks out over a couple of hours, fewer dents in the car.
Oh, and no "Oh my god . . . what happened last night?" either.

*steps down from soap-box*
ahem.. eh, sorry.
Ok, to add on to the advice, I would say Red Wine is great, but it depends. I really dont like the 'wine mouth' it gives (The red toung, the stained lips and teeth) and I find if I have a glass or two early in the evening my head hurts, almost like I'm getting my hangover before bed. Also, Red wine, I looked online (MSN ect) and it says that research points towards that the calories in Red Wine do not contribute to weight gain. OH My. How awesome is that? But then again, you cant beleive everything you see/hear/read.
What I like is a good White Rum and diet coke or a Light beer, like Coors Light is good... Lower in cals.. Beers that are labled 'Dry' are higher in calories. Try and stay away from juices when mixing, as that is usually most of the calories in the drink.
Also, if you drink with more and more days in between (like every weekend, instead of 4 times a week) your tollerance will go down. Meaning you will get your Buzz on quicker. I found that not drinking for a month, then having a beer tiped my rocker! It was interesting.
Also, Shots are a good idea too. Wait till your friends have gotten a few beers in them, then hit up a shot or two of something like white rum or vodca (clear alcohols do have some less cals in them) and chase it with a diet coke or some water and lemon.
If your like me and need to have that 'sociable drink' in your hand then white rum, water, and lemon juice is great. Ice it up too... Or you can try and get classy and drink Martini's. Those are nice, but you have to sip them... Cant really drink it quickly...
Anyways, those are my tips. I know it is hard to try and follow them when your weekends look really drab if you dont go chill with friends... but try other things, like cook up a bowling game, or mini golf! Sure you can have a drink or two there, but you'll be tempted to have less due to you being buisy.
Hope my $.20 helped.

What are you thinking? You can't drive home safely after three drinks! That's insane, seriously. Drink all ya want, but don't put other in dangers. Get a cab or use a bike!
i was thinking about drinking tonight which i rarely ever do.
but when i do drink i either have...
michelob ultra (190 calories for 24 ounces.)
pbr (not low cal but CHEAP)
smirnoff ice (very rarely. 456 for 24 ounces.)
if i were going to mix vodka with something low cal that is not diet soda or vegetable juice, what would it be?
sugary drinks make my stomach really upset and bloody mary's are gross.
