Alcohol, Hypoglycemia and eating

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, so when I go out or even if I drink at home, the next day I am SO hungry and nothing can really satisfy my hunger.  I am wondering if maybe this could be related to my hypoglycemia?  Does anyone know?  I am assuming that since I have hypoglycemia that my body processes alcohol/sugars differently than if I didn't have it.

And if I go out I always make sure I eat a big meal beforehand, just so I don't get hungry in the middle of the night and start feeling like crap.  And then I eat on my way home also.

I thought maybe it is because I was burning more calories being awake and dancing all night BUT even if I drink at home it produces the same results... Hunger.

Any insight on this anyone?

Same thing with me. But mine is mindless eating.  I smoke and can't even think about a cig when I am hungover so I eat instead.  Double whammy.   First all the alcohol calories and then the overeating. That is why I am attempting to just say no.
Alcohol itself can cause hypoglycemia in many people. If you are prone to hypoglycemia to begin with, I would imagine your body may react more severely to alcohol intake.
Alcohol coverts straight to sugar.  Like simple sugars, it floods the bloodstream with sugar and then crashes you.  That's why folks with blood sugar issues, like diabetes and hypoglycemia should avoid alcohol.
Ok, so what about the way my body processes alcohol?  I can have a few drinks and feel nothing for hours and then all of a sudden I black out and don't remember anything.  This has only happened in the last year or so.  So strange...

I have a theory that my body processes the alcohol differently because I am hypoglycemic but I just don't know the exact science behind it.
Alcohol is a nightmare for me generally.

It makes me eat and every single drop of alcohol I have goes straight onto my tummy and hips.
Alcohol actually  makes your blood glucose go LOWER.  Your liver regulated blood glucose levels AND processes alcohol.  So, while it's processing the alcohol, it's not regulating blood glucose, so it goes too low. (Might explain the passing out)

The reason we "get the munchies" when we drink alcohol is our body reacts to the low blood glucose as if we were hungry.

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and after reading about some of the problems, I don't think alcohol is in my future other than a single glass of wine or one drink on very rare occasions.... maybe two or three times a year.
