Ok so Vodka is probably the best option. Either that or Bacardi. But what do you suggest I mix it with? Diet coke? I don't drink a lot but when I do I would like to know it is not going to mess up what I have accomplished so far. Any suggestions? What do you drink when you go out? Thank you!
flavored vodka and club soda pretty good and refreshing
Gladys, Do you like "Dream Ciclyes" (not sure of spelling) or Orange Push Ups? If you do, get vanilla flavored vodka and mix with Diet Sunkist - tastes wonderful. Also regular flavored vodka tasted pretty good with it as well. I also find that the Diet Rootbeer is a good mixer. I find Diet Sunkist everywhere but the Diet Rootbeer seems to be off brands.
I usually patron the same bar so they let me keep my diet sunkist at the bar. They just mix with my vodka.

I had a great cocktail the other night at the bar called a rasberry lime rickey. Lime Vodka, a little bit of Chambord, a little bit of lime juice, and club soda. low cal, not too sweet and really yummy!
I will have vodka too, with tonic water and either a splash of cranberry juice or lime. Refreshing on a hot day. My bf drinks lite beer at 95 cals.
Aaaack....most bar drinks have at least 1.5 oz liquor in them and usually closer to 2 oz or more.....If you're talking Vodka, that's 128 calories for 2oz!! PLUS regular tonic water has 90 cals in 8 oz! So figuring a normal "rocks glass" size vodka tonic...173 calories!! You'd be better off doing "half shots" mixed with club soda, diet coke or crystal light for about 65 calories a drink...I bartended my way through college and was famous for coming up with diet-friendly drinks...LOL
vodka mixed with diet 7up.diet sprite or any variety of crystal lite....or fresca....is good.keep in mind that 1 shot of vodka is apx.58 calories....they add up quickly.....but yes the better way to go.i think i just learned something for myself...as i "lecture"you.you learn something new everyday i guess.lol.cheers.
Be Careful!!!.....an OUNCE of Vodka is 62 calories....a standard SHOT (1.5 ounces) would be 93 calories but unless you measure out exactly 1.5 ounces, especially in a bar, you're getting around 2 ounces which is 124 calories.....just don't want you to be sabotaged by those "hidden" cals!
I hate those hidden cals!!! It's hard enough for me to resist ordering fried foods, etc when I'm out with friends, but knowing that almost any drink I have will count as dessert (and then some!) is so frustrating!
I guess it's smart to pick one drink you KNOW the caloric content of, and alternate with water. Since I started really dieting and working out I have no tolerance for alcohol anyway!

Vodka and diet tonic are a good way to go, with a splash of cranberry juice or lime. :) That way you can still have tonic, but there are no calories in it.
Canada Dry also makes a diet cranberry ginger ale...very yummy as a mixer!

I drink cranberry vodka and sprite zero. A very refreshing summer drink.
I'll have to try the vanilla/diet sunkist mix! It sounds delicious!

Yep, diet tonic is a lifesaver! I drink Grey Goose L'Orange and diet tonic with a slice of lime.....Yummmmmers! I'll also do Grey Goose Vanilla with Diet Coke occasionally.....I'm gonna have to move on to the Diet Sunkist with that one though! I LOVE dreamsicles!!
Actually I disagree that vodka is best. I think it is best to stick with the undistilled drinks like wine or beer. They still have the vitamins and nutrients of the fruit or grain that they are made from so you are not getting "empty" calories they way you are with the distilled spirits.
I second (maybe third?) the diet tonic. In my opinion, it tastes just as good, but is much better for you. As pointed out, all alcohol is high in calories. The best bet is actually wine, but if you must drink hard, find a good mixer. Water is good if you can get used to it also.

I like Grey Goose L'Orange with diet sprite. I'm going to have to try the dreamsicle one next...sounds awesome!
I second the flavored vodka and club soda.
**Warning** Studies show that your body absorbs alcohol more quickly when mixed with diet soda. Be careful.

I'm all about beer, but my fave (Southern Pecan from the Magnolia Brewing Co. in Kiln Mississippi) has 160 cals per 12 oz.....boohoo
Beck's premium light beer only has 63 calories. It's pretty good too!
i learned the diet soda thing the hard way..
*will never drink vodka again*
How about just a glass or two of wine?
If the bar actually only pours a 5 oz glass of wine (as opposed to 7-9 oz) then it is just over 100 calories. Plus with wine you won't drink it as fast. Even if it is a over-pour it won't be more than 180 calories in the glass.

I always thought that alcohol calories are "empty calories" and don't actually contribute to weight gain if you eat proper nutrition throughout the day, and "work them off" in the morning?
